Alaska Contributions to the American System of Conservation Funding Over 75,000 students have participated in hunter education courses in Alaska since 1973. 63% of U.S. wetland ecosystems can be found in Alaska, totaling 130 million acres. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Fish Passage Improvement Program has carried out 33 stream restoration projects, providing access to 78 river miles. In 2015, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game was able to transition and release wood bison back into the Lower Yukon Range to restore the species’ wild population in the state. A strategic plan from 2015 vows to annually add at least 1,000 priority stream miles to Alaska’s Anadromous Waters Catalog, and at least 140 sites to Alaska’s Freshwater Fish Inventory Database. Through the American System of Conservation Funding (comprised of revenue from sporting licenses and Pittman-Robertson and Dingell-Johnson/Wallop-Breaux funds), sportsmen and women contribute billions of dollars to conservation. The System is a “user-pays, public-benefits” model, wherein sportsmen and women provide the vast majority of the funding for state fish and wildlife agencies – the primary stewards of our nation’s fish and wildlife resources. The revenue generated through this System helps to conserve fish and wildlife, provide clean water and healthy landscapes, and maintain access to these resources for the public at large, not just hunters and anglers. 2015 Certified Paid License Holders Fishing: 410,686 Hunting: 107,131 2015 Total Licenses/ Permits/Tags Fishing: 579,119 Hunting: 310,644 Pittman- Robertson Fishing Licenses Dingell-Johnson/ Wallop-Breaux Total 2015 Funding 2015 National Rankings Historical Funding Total Historical Funding US Rank $7.88 M 37 $264.08 M 35 $17.45M $407.34 M 12 16 2 $391.16 M 2 $34.63 M 10 9 $77.29 M 3 $415.41 M 1 $17.33 M Hunting Licenses Alaska sportsmen and women’s contributions to the American System of Conservation Funding: $1.48 B This report is made possible thanks to: sportsmenslink.org/policies/state/ascf

Alaska Contributions to the American System of Conservation Funding

• Over 75,000 students have participated in hunter education courses in Alaska since 1973.

• 63% of U.S. wetland ecosystems can be found in Alaska, totaling 130 million acres.

• The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Fish Passage Improvement Program has carried out 33 stream restoration projects, providing access to 78 river miles.

• In 2015, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game was able to transition and release wood bison back into the Lower Yukon Range to restore the species’ wild population in the state.

• A strategic plan from 2015 vows to annually add at least 1,000 priority stream miles to Alaska’s Anadromous Waters Catalog, and at least 140 sites to Alaska’s Freshwater Fish Inventory Database.
