“ At Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, we were in need of a quick and effective solution because our drug library had reached its maximum of only 2500 entries. The Alaris System software v9.33 upgrade allowed us to add new drug entries and reorganize our libraries, making administering medications safer and more efficient. At no point in the process did we compromise care to our patients. I consider this a mandatory enhancement for us, and I encourage others to explore its advantages.”

Tom Lausten, Director of Pharmacy Services, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin

Enhanced Near End of Infusion (NEOI)Alarm settings for the syringe module now feature separation of continuous and intermittent NEOI alarms and an optional NEOI Snooze reminder signal. The Alaris System software v9.33 gives you more control over the frequency of alarms and helps improve nurse workflow by offering:

• NEOI alarm configurability, potentially reducing clinical alarm fatigue and decreasing noise at the bedside allowing for an improved patient healing environment

• Separation of NEOI alarms for infusion types, providing the opportunity for fewer unnecessary alarms

• Opportunity for fewer nuisance trips to the bedside and reduced clinical interruptions

10,000 drug and fluid setupsContemporary hospital pharmacies face many challenges: hundreds of new drugs or modified formulas, many with multiple concentrations, must be added into the drug library, while drug shortages may necessitate even more entries for alternative choices. In addition, industry consolidation may require combining drug libraries. The Alaris System software v9.33 meets these challenges by offering:

• The Power of One—a singular data set that supports your health system consolidation goals, across all infusion modalities and patient populations

• The option to add more drug and fluid setups to your drug library—and to increase the use of standard concentrations

• The flexibility to build the right number of profiles for your health system needs

“ Upgrading to the Alaris System software v9.33 allowed us to make our own decisions about enabling Near End of Infusion alarms for certain medications. Now we have these alarms enabled for continuous infusions, and this has given our staff a greater sense of confidence in the IV pumps because they know they will be alerted prior to infusions running out. We appreciate that BD listened to our concerns, improved the technology, and made it possible for us to decide what is best for our patient populations.”

Holly O’Brien, Safety Program Manager, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin

Alaris System enhancements

A study with one Alaris System Syringe hospital, using historical run-rates of syringe infusions, suggested that current Alaris System Syringe customers who have NEOI enabled could potentially reduce their intermittent NEOI alarms by over 22,000 per month.

In the same study, the hospital also reduced nearly 4,000 unnecessary trips to the bedside per month associated with short-duration syringe infusions with NEOI alarms.

Nursing survey results*

believe that the enhanced NEOI alarm reduced their patients’ exposure to alarms.

62% of nurses 62

agreed that the v9.33 software helped them avoid delays to their continuous syringe infusions by enabling NEOI.
