Charity law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year, which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and its results for that period. In preparing those financial statements the trustees are required to:

Select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;

Make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;

State whether the policies adopted are in accordance with the Charities SORP and with applicable accounting standards, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statement; and

Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to assume that the charity will continue in operation.

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records, which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time, the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statement comply with relevant law. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud or other irregularities.

Introduction

Al-Amanah was registered as a charity in August 209 to provide aid support to

children and families mainly in Horn of Africa. The charity was set up out of a deep

conviction to support children and young people and to address the needs of the

most vulnerable and exploited people of our society.

Prior to the charity registration in 2002, many individual families, majority of Eritrean

origin, gathered and collected their effort to help poor families and orphans living in

the camp in the border between Sudan and Eritrea. The number of families that

joined and showed their willingness to contribute started to grow which led to the

registration of Al-Amanah as a non-profit making organisation with charity

commission in UK.

Objectives

The objectives of the Trust are:

To advance the education of the hearing impaired pupils, mainly orphans living

in a camp between the boarder of Sudan and Eritrea.

To advance education and training of widows, orphans, young adults, and men

and women of low-income families.

Al-Amanah – How It Started

In the 2001 a group of London based Eritreans initiated a financial support program

for the most deprived families in the refugee camps in East Sudan. The idea then

developed and more focus was directed at children, particularly orphans. Al-Amanah

has continued running this child support scheme on a small level due to the lack of

resources and expertise.

In 2008 Al-Amanah members agreed that a professional organisation, with skills and

resources, were vital for the continuation and progress of the program. A decision

was made to register Al-Amanah as a charity organisation in the UK, and in 2009, the

charity commissioner issued Al-Amanah a charity number.

Current Activities of Al-Amanah

Orphan sponsorship program

This program has attracted people who felt responsibility towards children and the

East Sudan refugee camps. Today, Al Amanah has managed to find a number of

sponsors who offer a monthly contribution that covers the needs of an orphan for

a whole month. Al-Amanah provides every sponsor with detailed evidence of how

his/her money is spent, along with photos of the orphan child which is regularly

updated on Al-Amanah’s website.

which enables people to enjoy the mercy and true meaning of support and

solidarity during such a time. The program offered is daily Iftar for a group of

people.

Future plans

The current economic climate has added significantly to the difficulties faced by our charity in fund-raising. Therefore, the effort of finding a new venue that gives a wider scope of opportunities and variety of income sources for fund-raising has significantly stepped up. One of the fruit’s of this was to start establishing projects that will be self financed, both, fully or partly, to secure their continuity.

The trustees are fully aware of the challenges facing them ahead and committed to working together, as a team, to enable the charity to achieve its objectives in the most effective way possible. As the fund is the most important element, supporting core activities of the organisation; therefore, a team with strong competence has been set up in an attempt to increase the fund level, including both short and long term.

The management board is aware of the importance to have a strong governing policies and to ensure that a full plan of programs have been laid down, both, to individuals and groups, and are involved in the work to empower them on how these policies and procedures should be implemented.

We strongly believe in the continuous development of our work, and working in partnership with others to achieve for better result.
