APRE NewsMay the month of Mary and the Holy FamilyOn the 24th May the College will celebrate our Patron Saint, Mary the mother of Jesus and Help of Christians. Interestingly the month starts by celebrating the holiness of St Joseph, Mary’s husband. Not much is written about Joseph and it is fitting he is acknowledged at the start of May. He is the patron saint of fathers, workers and the Church. He is remembered for his obedience and trust in God; his humility and selflessness; his courage and the love he showed to Mary and Jesus.

The following is a prayer litany to Good Saint Joseph and reminds us of importance of family and fathers.

Pray a Litany Good Saint JosephPray for us For families who are refugees as a result of discrimination, war or natural disaster.Pray for themFor all fathers, stepfathers, single fathers and adoptive fathers.Pray for them For all fathers who are grieving the loss of a child.Pray for themFor all who men who are unemployed and searching for work.Pray for them For all who are close to deathPray for them Good Saint JosephPray for us

ANZAC DayThanks to all families who supported a local march last Tuesday. The College was well represented across the region. At our College ceremony led by Ethan Paroz, Catafalque Party, all staff and students paid their respects to the fallen and prayed for peace in various ways. Many flowers and tributes were left at the foot of our flagpole by classes and the community took the historical pictorial walk of friends and relatives who have been or are in active service of the country. The students participated in our observance with great reverence as always.

It is incredibly important we don’t underestimate the role our students have in the future of this great land. The daily news and social media can paint a gloomy picture but I believe adults often dwell on these more than our students and that students are quite discerning and hopeful. A picture of hope is the only one we can paint otherwise we are setting them up for failure. As a soldier or gun can be an image of pain and suffering, it must also remind them of the good the ‘god’ in all those who protect us. As Easter people, the cross must do the same. It cannot be an image of suffering and evil it must remind us that from hardship new life comes. Jesus’ message of love and forgiveness are counter cultural and counter intuitive in this age of consumerism and revenge. As Christians we need to teach our students the same message so they become the agents of change we need them to be in this world.

Kind regardsMr Martin PerrettAPRE

Office NewsTerm 2 Fees OverdueFamilies are reminded that Term 2 fees were due for payment last Friday, 28th April unless you have a formal payment arrangement in place. If you have not received your Fees Statement please contact the office immediately. While the College will accept payment by instalment, we must know the timing and amount of the instalments and our preferred payment method is Direct Debit or BPay. It is not too late to commence a direct debit payment arrangement. Download a Direct Debit Request Form from the Parent Portal or College Website and contact Finance Secretary, Briony Hoare, for assistance calculating payments.

Sport NewsThe College cross country took place last Friday and what a beautiful day it was. Five to nine year old children ran a 750m track whilst ten year olds faced their first track outside of the College grounds covering 2km and in excess of 30m of elevation. Eleven to thirteens had their tricky 3km circuit and fourteen years plus ran two full laps to complete their 4km course. Some sixteen year old

and opens boys nominated to challenge themselves on a 6km circuit.

Congratulations to all the students who participated and especially those who achieved the top five places. Those students eligible to progress to the upcoming South Burnett trials on the 16th May will receive their information shortly. Unfortunately, simply placing does not guarantee a place at South Burnett and there are qualifying times students need to meet to be eligible. Below are our age champions for Cross Country.

Year 5 and 6 students were asked by their classroom teachers last week for any interested children born in 2005 or 2006 only to nominate if they would like to participate in an upcoming gala day for Netball and Rugby League that will take place at Taabinga.
