I. PRESENTATION OF EVENTS

1. Organisation

The simplified joint stock company GAMAO and Les traileurs des Sommets (The summit trail runners) association (a non-profit-making association) are co-organising the OUREA event in Avoriaz with the help of the Villages of the Portes du Soleil.

This document defines:

1. the competition rules of the Event, 2. the general terms of sale applicable to any order of a product or service related to races during

the week-long OUREA event.

The terms “you”, “your” and “yours” refer to you as a participant or consumer, or as the parent or legal guardian (must be over 18) if this participant or consumer is a minor in their country of residence.

Participation in the event implies your express and unconditional acceptance of the General Terms of Sale and the Rules.

The Organiser may revise and update the General Terms of Sale and the Rules at any time; please read them regularly. Any changes we make will be effective immediately upon notification, which we may provide by any means whatsoever, including posting a revised version of these on the Event site. In the event of a significant modification to the General Terms of Sale and/or the Rules, the Organiser will endeavour to notify you by email.

2. The events

OUREA is an 8-day trail event based in the Avoriaz resort and following paths in the villages that make up the Portes du Soleil.

The courses described below are provisional and require definitive validation by the Prefecture in the 3 months preceding the event as is the case for all the sports organisations.

o OUREA Xtrem is a 7-stage trail event spanning 8 days from 11 to 18 July 2020 and measures 250km in length with an approximate cumulative uphill gradient of 19,000m.

This race can be run individually or in relays (runner 1 participating in the Prologue, Stage 1, Stage 3, Stage 5 and Stage 7 and runner 2 participating in Stage 2, Stage 4 and Stage 6)

Maximum number of athletes, individual + relay: 350

Minimum age: 20 on 31 December 2020.

In order to reduce the stress at the start of the different mass start stages and avoid bottlenecks on the tracks, wave starts will be organised according to the trail runners’ overall ranking. The ‘individual’ and ‘relay’ waves will have separate starts.

For the first stage, the athlete’s ITRA ranking will be requested. According to this ranking, the top athletes will set off last and each athlete will set off with competitors of the same level. The staggering of the athletes in terms of time will be decided just before the event according to the number of runners.

o Stage 1, Saturday 11 July 2020: Prologue 4.2km time trial with 670m ascent o Stage 2, Sunday 12 July 2020: 42km with 2,790m ascent o Stage 3, Monday 13 July 2020: 25km time trial with 2,400m ascent o Stage 4, Tuesday 14 July 2020: 61km marathon stage with 4,170m ascent o Day OFF, Wednesday 15 July 2020

All the athletes within 1hr of the leader in the overall ranking will set off according to their time deficit in relation to the leader. In this way, the winner of the overall ranking for the OUREA Xtrem will be the athlete who is first across the finish line. Athletes with a deficit of more than 1hr in the overall ranking will set off 1hr15 after the leader and will only be able to receive a better final overall ranking than the last athlete in the first group (those less than 1hr behind the leader) at the end of stage 6.

III. AID STATIONS and SEMI-AUTONOMY

All the races in the week-long OUREA event will offer at least 4 aid stations according to the distance, except during STAGE 1 and the kids’ races, which won’t have an aid station along the courses; the only aid station will be situated at the finish.

Each athlete shall be semi-autonomous between aid stations, which means they must be able to refresh themselves on a dietary level (solid and liquid); and with regards clothing and safety; and be able to guard against possible complications due to bad weather, injury or physical problems.

Each runner will carry with them the compulsory minimum equipment detailed in the “Compulsory Equipment” section.

Each aid station will be identical in terms of liquid and solid refreshments (ref. aid station page)

Personal aid station zones can only be located in the 50m before the entrance to the aid station

zone organised by OUREA or in the 50m after the aid station zone organised by OUREA. No

assistant has the right to enter the OUREA aid station zone. A breach of these rules will

automatically lead to a time penalty (see table of sanctions)

It is also forbidden to stock up or exchange equipment between athletes on penalty of time (see

table of sanctions) except in case of distress conditions.

Each aid station, a zone delimited by the organisation with its equipment (inflatable advertising arches, flagging tapes, barriers…), is solely reserved for athletes and the organisation.

Being filmed at a fixed point is permitted but not by a person who is running or walking. Solely authorised media sporting a media vest can accompany the athletes without hindering or benefiting their progress. Race marshals and station managers who witness any irregularities are entitled to penalise participants (see table of sanctions)

V. ANTI-DOPING CONTROL

OUREA is compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code as defined by the World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) and will work with the French Athletics Federation (FFA) to guarantee the World Anti-Doping Code is correctly applied. Anyone who is the subject of a provisional or definitive sanction by an anti-doping organisation governed by the WADA Code (a ‘sanctioned’ individual) will be forbidden from participating in the race, whether it be as a runner, team manager or official. As stipulated in the race rules, the organisers reserve the right to test all the participants with the proper authorities in the subject. Consequently, in line with the WADA code, it is down to the athlete to check that the substances or methods used do not appear on the current list of prohibited substances and methods. http ://www.wada-ama.org/fr/ressources https ://www.afld.fr

VII. RACE PACKAGE

Each race package comprises your vest, timing chip and race wristband (solely for the stage races) and will be handed out individually to each racer on presentation of a photo ID.

The race wristband for the stage races will give the athletes access to the catering tent for 3 meals a day.

The vest provides access to all the race zones reserved for the athletes and must only be worn on the chest or stomach, be constantly and completely visible throughout the race without any layers of clothing covering it. The vest must remain in the condition in which it was given to you without being modified or hidden.

VIII. CHECKPOINTS

Timing stations will be positioned at several points along the course each day so as to check the athletes run the entire course on a daily basis. It will be released at a later date (based on a pace of 4km/h).

Compulsory equipment checks may be carried out by the organisation anywhere in the race, including at the start and finish. We advise you to group your equipment together in transparent plastic bags so as you can locate them quickly during an equipment test.

It is down to the athletes themselves to comply with the lists of compulsory equipment published in the race rules. If weather events prompt the organisers to modify the compulsory equipment kits for the day’s stage, the athletes will be alerted via email at the address they indicated when signing up for the event as well as via the speaker at the start site. The race’s social networks, Facebook and Instagram will also relay the information.

IX. SIGNAGE

Course signage will be positioned at very regular intervals (pennants, flagging tapes, signs, marking powders). Once you can no longer see any signage for more than 200m, turn back to ensure you haven’t gone the wrong way.

For all the events except Stage 6 (surprise stage), you’ll be able to download the GPX track on the website and integrate it on your watch.

X. MAXIMUM TIME ALLOWED AND TIME BARRIERS

The maximum time allowed and the time barriers are calculated according to the start time for the day’s last wave.

The start deadlines (time barriers) for the main checkpoints will be defined and communicated in the Runner’s Guide and on the website. In the event of any modification (see Special conditions), you’ll also be informed about the new time barriers via email.

These time barriers are calculated to enable participants to get to the finish within the maximum time set, inclusive of possible stops at the aid stations. To be allowed to continue the event, competitors

must leave the checkpoint before the set deadline (whatever time they arrive at the checkpoint).

Any competitor excluded from the race in this way and wishing to continue along the course, will only be able to do so once they’ve removed their bib number in the knowledge that they will be solely responsible for doing so and will be completely independent. Even if they make the finish line, they will be permitted to set off on the next day’s stage but will not figure in the stage classification and general classification. After 2 DNF, they will not be permitted to start a new stage.

XI. AID AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

Aid stations are set up at various points along the courses. These stations are connected up to the race’s Emergency HQ via radio or telephone. A medical control team will be in attendance at the Emergency HQ in Avoriaz throughout the events.

The aid stations are intended to provide assistance to anyone in danger using the organisation’s own means or public means.

It is down to a runner who is in difficulty or seriously injured to call for assistance:

• by introducing themselves at an aid station • by calling Race HQ (tel. number noted on the vest) • by asking another runner to alert those providing assistance • where it is impossible to contact Race HQ or the inspector, you can call the emergency bodies directly

solely if is vitally urgent. (112 from France and 144 from Switzerland)

Each runner shall provide assistance to anyone in danger and alert those providing emergency assistance.

Don’t forget that all kinds of hazards of any kind, related to the environment and to the race, may mean you have to wait for emergency assistance for longer than normal (between 5 and 25 mins in normal time – which may increase to 40 mins in certain cases = FFA’s recommendation). As such, your safety will depend on the quality of the equipment you’ve put in your bag.

All medical staff, paramedics, first responders and official guides, as well as anyone designated by Race Management has the authority:

• to exclude any competitor deemed unfit to continue the event • to compel any competitor to use any element of the compulsory equipment • to have runners they deem to be in danger evacuated by any means • to refer patients to the most suitable care structure

A runner who calls upon the services of a doctor or first responder submits to their authority and agrees to abide by their decisions. From the moment a runner’s state of health justifies treatment by means of an intravenous drip, it is compulsory that the latter is excluded from the race, notably after each stage, so as not to give the

patient extra time to recover for the stage the following day. However, he will be able to start again the next day on the stage race, but in the secondary ranking of the riders who needed medical help from the organization or who did not finish a stage. Any runner who deliberately strays off the marked track is no longer the organisation’s responsibility.

XII. RETIREMENTS / REPATRIATIONS

In the event of a retirement without a serious injury requiring medical assistance, each retiring athlete must head to the closest checkpoint to report their retirement to the person in charge who relays the information to the Safety HQ. It’s imperative that each retirement is reported to the Safety HQ.

The racer retains their vest, which may still be of use to them at the finish in order to access the catering zone.

According to the length of the stages, one or several repatriation points will be organised and reported in the road book. These repatriations will enable the athletes to return to Avoriaz. To be repatriated, the retiring athletes shall head to the closest point by their own means. If a retiring athlete wishes to return to Avoriaz by their own means, they must alert Race HQ. Solely an athlete considered to be injured by the organisation’s doctor can be repatriated outside these repatriation points.

In the event of unfavourable weather conditions justifying the partial or total halting of the race, the organisation will take charge of repatriating the halted runners as quickly as possible.

XIII. BREACHES OF THE RACE RULES

Solely the race marshals and those in charge of the checkpoints/aid stations will have the authority to apply the race rules in the event of a breach. Certain sanctions may be applied on the spot.

A time penalty will be added to the ranking for the stage. On-the-spot disqualification may be pronounced by the marshal or the person in charge of the checkpoint/aid station with immediate effect, the athlete not being allowed to continue racing.

An ‘Arbitration’ committee will have the full power to ensure a race rule is adhered to (penalty, disqualification, etc.) In the event that cheating is proven, the committee may make a simple ‘observation’ (without requiring physical, photos or other proof) to exclude the competitor from the race or award them a penalty applicable immediately or upon a later decision. It is understood that the members of the committee, the race marshals and those in charge of a station are not obliged to a carry a specific visual aid. If a runner or spectator witnesses clear and non-debatable cheating (several witnesses, photo, video…), they will be able to lodge a protest with Race Management up to 1hr after the competitor in question finishes the race. — A 50-euro deposit cheque will then be requested, but it will be returned in the event of a penalty decision.

Summary of the reasons for awarding penalties or for disqualifications:

XIV. PROTESTS (outside the race rules)

Any protest must be emailed to us ([email protected]), within 10 days of the end of the event.

XV. SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Should circumstances so require at any time, the organisation reserves the right to modify the courses, start times, time barriers, the position of the aid stations and the first-aid posts, and any other aspect connected to the smooth running of the events.

In case of absolute necessity, overly unfavourable weather conditions or any other circumstance endangering the competitors’ safety, the organisation reserves the right to:

• delay the start by a few hours at most • modify the time barriers • cancel the event • close the event • halt the event that is underway
