Compare/Contrast de Beaufort Individual Project #1 Art and Life: The Spirit of Haiti now on exhibit at our very own college gallery affords us an excellent opportunity to examine contemporary portraiture against the backdrop of our Art Historical research. Art in the show has all been created by artists of Haitian descent and so is necessarily informed by the identity politics and cultural issues that emerge both from the Haitian and the Haitian American experience. I have found two portraits that will examine-comparing and contrasting them to works from the period that we are currently studying. Find each work in the gallery and list the artists name and the title of the work. Please leaf through any material available or otherwise research the artists to gather as much contextual background information as possible. For each comparison you must write the following: First indicate what pictorial conventions or ideas have remained unchanged, and is possibly shared by the two works. As always BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE. You must list 3 similarities and write a minimum of 2 sentences minimum for each one. Second, indicate what has changed, and how the two works diverge. Describe the historical and cultural context that they has given rise to each work and how prevailing attitudes or ideas have shaped the content of the images. As always BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE. You must list 3 differences and write 3 sentences minimum for each one. Please do all of this in bullet points of complete sentences: Comparison 1 Artist, title, date, medium of each work. Similarities 1. (minimum 2 sentences) 2. (minimum 2 sentences) 3. (minimum 2 sentences) Differences 1. (minimum 3 sentences) 2. (minimum 3 sentences) 3. (minimum 3 sentences) Comparison 2 Artist, title, date, medium of each work. Similarities 1. (minimum 2 sentences)
