Coffee and Conversation Meeting
about Kindergarten for ANP-4 parents
was held on Wednesday, January 29th in the
school library where more than 25 parents
attended. The Kindergarten curriculum was
briefly discussed focusing on the core
subjects of Language , Math and Science, as
well as Common Core Standards. These
meetings are planned with the intention of
enlightening our parents on what is in store
for their children for the coming year. The
teachers discussed the continuity of the
curriculum between preschool and
kindergarten and the measures taken to
prepare them for a smooth transition. The
second half of the meeting was devoted to
parents’ questions. It is recommended that
all ANP-4 parents visit the kindergarten
classroom settings in person during OPEN
HOUSE on February 8th. A follow-up Coffee
and Conversation meeting is scheduled for
February 26th, where more detailed
information will be provided.

Pink Class Pink Class students really look forward to the
science experiment of the week. They are
interested in knowing what ingredients will be
used and what happens to them once they are
combined. Children usually expect an immediate
reaction from the experiment, but they have
learned throughout the past four months that
patience is important to see results. We recently
did an experiment to see how food coloring
droplets in milk stay on the surface and don’t mix
until Palmolive Soap acts as surface tension
breaker. First, the children poured milk into
plates. Next, 4 different colors of food coloring
were placed in the corners of the plate. The
children learned that food coloring weighs less
than whole milk, that’s why it stays afloat. Next,
they dropped Palmolive Soap in the middle,
learning that the “magic ingredient” breaks the
colors apart (surface tension)… Last, for fun, they
blew into their plates and watched the colors
swirl into beautiful tie-dye milk plates.

Blue Class The students of blue class continue to learn, grow,
and shine. Throughout the day, our students are
exposed to an integrated curriculum filled with
memorable experiences. It is crucial for our
students to develop in all areas and have fun at
the same time. Our students look forward to our
weekly themes and partake in all of the activities
that are designed behind their interests. One of
our favorite projects took place during the week
of learning letter M. Our students took part in an
“All About Me” activity to strengthen their self-
expression. Our students carefully chose their
favorite colors to express themselves. Each
artwork displayed the individuality that children
bring to the classroom. The students of blue class
were very excited to share their artwork with
their friends and family members and look
forward to all of the excitement that comes with
our weekly themes!!

White Class
It's a Winter Wonderland over in White Class! Snow has
fallen and our winter clothing has come out of hiding! The
kids have been learning about the seasons and weather
changing. It snowed in class and boy did it snow! To add to
the fun we made our very own snowflakes by incorporating
math and science. We used three different size
marshmallows and learned about "Small, medium and
large" as well! Of course our taste buds were quite happy
because a few of those marshmallows made it to our
mouths! Happy Winter to all!
Ms. Ani
Hello to everyone from the Yellow class! The beginning of 2014 has
been a fun filled and exciting one, where we have learned a lot,
including how the season had changed from fall to winter and how
the weather got colder. We even made snow in our class and played
with it! However, one of the most important lessons we learned in
January was about Martin Luther King Jr. The children were able to
understand King’s golden rule, “Just treat the other person, as you
wish he’d treat you.” The children comprehended the fact that
although there are many different kinds of people in the world,
including those with different skin colors and even with disabilities,
we need to treat everyone equally and always use good manners.

Green Class Dr. King’s Dream
This month, through role-play the Green
Class students learned the significance of
“fairness”. They learned how Martin
Luther King Jr. transformed our country
and how he was part of changing unfair
laws. Additionally, the students worked
together by displaying behaviors in order
to solve problems without fighting. Next,
they collaborated by listing ideas on how
to get along with friends. Lastly, through
art, the students colored the bus that
Rosa Parks sat in. At the end, the children
understood that everyone should be
treated the same no matter the color of
their skin.

Orange Class Many parents are starting to see a recurring theme in
the preschool classroom. Lately, teachers have been
reading many books by Eric Carle. You might wonder
why this man has captured so many educators’
attention. Well, Eric Carle is an American illustrator and
writer who has sold over 125 million copies of his
books. You may know him as the author of “The Very
Hungry Caterpillar”.
In February, the children in the Toddler Program will be
reading his very well-known book, “Brown Bear, Brown
Bear, What Do You See?” This book is loved by teachers
and children. The pictures are very vivid and they give
illustrative clues that help explain the text to the young
readers. This helps young students identify different
colors as well as the names of different types of
animals.
It truly is a great read for any child and we encourage
parents to purchase or check out any of Eric Carle’s
books and read it to them. It will really help them grow
as young learners.

Get ready to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. The teachers of
Artemis Nazarian Preschool are excited to instill a love for our
environment in our students by beginning a recycling
program. Prior to beginning this valuable project, students
were informed on the importance of reducing, reusing and
recycling and how it can be incorporated in their everyday
lives. The children of Artemis Nazarian Preschool were taught
valuable lessons to use both sides of a paper instead of just
one, use one or two paper towels instead of three or four, and
put used papers and bottles in the recycling bin instead of the
trash can. All of the teachers have put great emphasis and are
leading by example to help all of our students develop a
lifelong love for our environment!!!
Ms. Lusine
Red Class
The Red Class students returned from Christmas break relaxed
and eager to learn. Their smiles and laughter filled the room.
They were excited to be back with their friends.
During the month of February, we will be celebrating
Valentine's Day! The students will learn about the heart shape
and what it represents. They will decorate paper hearts and
make love bugs, they will read stories about love, Valentine's
Day, and families. We will also talk about friends. We will
discuss appropriate ways to show our friends that we care
about them and review how important sharing is with one
another. The following is a poem that they will learn:
Gifts of Love
I couldn't buy a gift for you
Because I am very small.
But I can give you some things-
The greatest gifts of all!
I can give you kisses.
I can hug you too
I can give you a friendly smile
And tell you that I love you!
Happy Valentine's Day!

Enricment Classes in Preschool! This is the first year we have offered after school enrichment classes for our young students. We have engaged Enrichment Planet, a company who specializes in providing enticing and engaging learning environments and subjects to capture the interest of the young children. Thus far, Team Sports and Jr. Engineers have been very interesting and motivating. We plan to continue working with the company in the future. Here are a few snapshots of our students’ participation.
