Aeronautical Engineers are working on rockets that they will launch on Friday. I interviewed Alex Bartley and he said it was a fun class because they get to make

rockets and build things. He says that the rockets will be shot up 1,600 feet since they are the advanced class. The people that help them with the rockets are Becky and Kate. He likes that they go his pace and not rush through. They also make fake planes like paper airplanes. They also get to design their own rocket. This class can be taken both in the morning or the afternoon, in the

morning is the more advanced class and afternoon is the less advanced class.

ARCH[A]EOLOGY By: Dylan Hovenstine

Do you like history? Or digging the dirt and getting your hands dirty? Or even Indiana Jones? If so, then Archaeology is the thing for you. Archaeology is the study of the human past through materials such as rocks, dirt, etc. It is taught by Ms. Andi and Mr. Andrew. To learn more about the class, I interviewed Cate Chandler.

When asked why she picked this class she said, “I picked this class because it sounded interesting and I like history”. When asked what the class was about she said “It’s about a bunch of history artifacts and stuff”. She also said she likes this class. Cate Chandler does What The Greek? in the afternoon.

I also Interviewed Sophia Pinsky. When asked why she chose this class she

said “because I needed a second class”.

When asked about the class she said “It’s about digging” She also likes the class. Sophia Pinsky also does What The Greek? in the afternoon.

And at last I nterviewed Gage Lucken. He said he chose this class “because it sounded interesting.” He said that the class is about “Studying and finding material remains in the dirt”. He also said he likes the class. In the after- noon, Gage does Aeronautical Engineering 2.

Astronomy

By Mahailya Breen

In Astronomy students talk about the solar system and the things in it, like stars and planets. The teacher’s name is Tyler. Two students, Laurel Best and

Matthew Mitstifer, like talking about science and planets. From what it seems, Matthew and Laurel really like class. But, Maggie Ryder said that the class isn’t physical enough. Maggie said that if she could change anything about the class

she would like to have less worksheets and more hands on activities. Wednesday though they built little contraptions and dropped them off of a balcony. In

conclusion to enjoy this class it depends on your personality. If you’re more into verbal learning, which is just listening to a person talk, than you’d probably like listening to the teacher and doing worksheets. But, if you’re more into physical

stuff, like Maggie, than you might want to think about a different class.

Candid Camera By Mahailya Breen

The teachers of this class are Sean and Stephanie. Jennie Brouse took this class

before and came back for another week of fun. She said that if given the choice

she wouldn’t change a thing. She likes the teachers and thinks the class is fun.

Alejandro Quintan likes developing pictures in the darkroom. He has also taken

the class before and thinks the teachers are funny. Another student that took the

class before and is taking it again is Julia Mertes. This is her third year at College

for Kids. Her favorite thing about class is the long walk where the students walk

around Williamsport and take pictures. After they take their pictures, the next

day they develop them in the darkroom and take them home on Friday. That’s

the story of the Candid Camera class.

Sean puts the pictures on the dryer after being developed in chemicals and water.

Egyptology By: Elaina Bartley

David Geise, above, from Egyptology was interviewed and he said you learn about Egyptians and how they lived. You also get to make crafts that the Egyptians made, like a mask. CJ and Maria teach them about Egypt and how they lived differently than us. David chose this class because he

thought it would be fun to learn about Egyptians.

On Thursday they are going to make mummy masks where you put clay on your face to mold and then let them

dry and decorate it.

They also taught them about pyramids and other monuments

there. Egyptology is an afternoon-only class on the 2nd floor of the Fine Arts Building.

Geocaching

By Isaac Young Have you ever wanted to find tiny chips using a GPS? Well, Gabe does. Gabe is a member in Geocaching. He chose this class because his friend did last year, and loved it. He loves it because Gabe thinks the GPS is fun to use. The class is about trying to find very small chips using a GPS. They try to hide the chips behind flower pots and door handles. He wants to be a Geocacher when he grows up.

There is a pro geocaching competition where you can win up to ten thousand dollars for first prize. In Gabe’s class the teachers are both girls and are very nice. If you want to try geocaching, go to Lowe’s to get your GPS or get an app on your phone.

This is Gabe with his friend.

This is the device you use.

Lycoming College for kids has a wide range of classes from Egyptology to Aeronautical Engineers. But for Mia, Global Art is the perfect class for her. Mia thinks she has an artistic skill and wants to learn more. What better way than Global Art where you learn art from all around the world. She loves this class and would certainly do it again. They have done fun art projects such as writing their name in hieroglyphics and making a clay frame for it, rangoli, and origami. Kids make boxes, dragons and Mia made a sail boat. Mia really likes origami and all other art projects. And if you ever get stuck your teachers are always there to help.

This is mias name in hyroglyphics this is their rangoli this is oragomi

Molly, a growing artist, took Global Art because she loves art and it sounded like fun. “I like to do different types of art,” Molly told us. She said that she would do this class again because she enjoys doing it. Molly likes art but doesn’t think she has the skills to be an artist. One of the projects that she liked was doing origami. Nuria and C.J (their teachers) are always there to help her.

This is a class photo of the Global Artists

Aaron, another Global Art student, likes the class for other reasons. He likes doing art around the world and listening to the music which is mostly Disney (that’s his favorite kind of music). Aaron is interested in learning more art around the world. In Egypt he wrote his name in hieroglyphics and made a clay frame for it. In India they made rangoli. an art drawn on the living room floor or courtyard in India. They will use colored rice, flower petals, dry flour, and colored sand, except in our case they used sidewalk chalk. The last project he told me about was origami. That’s from Japan and means “folded paper.”

So if it’s Paleontology or Ready, Set, Go! there is one class for you and for these kids its Global Art.

pellet there were a lot of bones like sculls and spine pieces and also I had a vertebrae, a vertebrae is a type of back bone, a part of the spine.

The helper teacher, her name is Samantha, said she loves the class because there are a lot of hand on activities, plus when you’re having fun you’re also learning some interesting things. And when you go home you can tell you mom and dad what interesting facts you learned. A girl named Kathryn said she also loves the class because they do a lot of group stuff like the name game and sometimes they play outside too.

Some games I used to play in Grossology were ships and sailors that was my favorite game that we ever played in my Grossology class.

This is Kathryn working on a paper mache project in this picture. She is is putting on the glue.

What the Greek BY: aBBY Colone

What the Greek is about what the Greeks did in the olden days, like back then it was very hard for the Greeks to find copper, so when they did they would

use it for stuff they needed and if they had scraps they would most definitely not throw them out because they were probably very poor and homeless.

A girl named Sofia made the necklace in the picture, above, and she told me that she loves learning Greek stuff and her teacher is awesome.

When I interviewed this class, I noticed that in this class you can picture the classical image of Greece and what the Greeks did.

A boy named Dylan told me this class is about learning how to be ancient and learning how the Greeks lived. And he likes how every day is a new lesson.

This is a rock necklace with copper wrapped around it, was very important back then because it was very exspensive.

Young engineers is a hands-on class where you have fun while learning about building all different kinds of things. At the end of the week, put your skills to the test in a bottle rocket launch with your homemade rocket.

Malcolm, a young engineer student, wants to be an engineer and what better way than College for Kids?

“We make original things and have fun while doing it,” Malcolm told us.

They make things like bottle rockets, toothpick bridges, and squirrel planes. You can make those with just a few materials; you use boxwood, tissue paper, a ruler and then you glue it together. There

Joe and Matt, their teachers, show them how many inches to measure and how much glue to use if you ever need assistance.

Ella choose Young Engineers because she helped dad with video and she thought it would be fun. She likes Young Engineers because she gets to do stuff like building toothpick bridges, model airplanes and bottle rockets. Her favorite is the airplane. You use balsawood, tissue paper, and then you glue it together. Ella is a hard working young engineer and is doing a great job!

Todd, another young engineer, joined this class because he thought it would be fun and it is. He said that you get to build stuff and mess around. After snack is his favorite part because that’s when they get into the fun stuff. They build stuff like squirrel planes, bridges, and rockets. Todd likes the bridge the best because it’s easy and he likes to see things get destroyed. But in all he really likes this class.

Todd, Ella and Malcom may have different interests but they have one thing in common and that is that they all love this camp. And this class!
