SPECIAL *** COLLECTION OF MARITIME PRESS CLIPPINGS *** REPORT

The AEGIR is Heerema’s latest deepwater construction vessel (DCV), which will be capable of executing complex infrastructure and pipeline projects in ultra deep water and will also have sufficient lifting capacity to install fixed platforms in relatively shallow water. The design is a customized Ulstein Sea of Solutions SOC 5000

The AEGIR is at present fitting out at the DSME shipyard in Okpo (Korea) and departing very soon for her first dancing lessons at sea.

An impressive project and, as I found out during the visit to the vessel, a very impressive ship, the construction started in August 2011, as can be seen on left when the first steel parts arrived, on the photo are seen Bram and Leo, both involved in the building of the AEGIR since the first hour.

The accommodation block was installed in March 2012 as seen on the left and the vessel was floated out in April

In June 2012 the installation started of the impressive HUISMAN revolving mast type crane, more about this crane can be found below.

The first thing you see when approach the vessel, which is at present fitting out alongside, is the large HUISMAN built revolving mast type crane equipped with an 125 mtr boom.

The revolving crane is having a capacity of 4000 mT between 17 m and 40 m radius and 1500 mT at 78 m radius, the lifting height is 96 m above main deck and the maximum radius is 79 mtr The Auxiliary Hoist is having a capacity of 750 mT at 23 - 92 m radius whilst the Whip hoist is rated 110 mT at 31 - 123 m radius

Inside the spacious crane housing the impressive drums with the several wires can be found, on the left seen the 2 main hoist wires of 72 mm diameter with a length of 2680 mtr each, the

boomhoist is 72 mm with a length of 3750 mtr, and the AuxHoist is 72 mm with a length of 1150 mtr.

And looking down from the slewing deck into the crane housing gives you a good overview of the installed winches

At the above photo the crane-control cabin is clearly seen, which is equipped all kind of modern technologies , as can be seen on the right.

Two (2) 6.5 MW fixed pitch, variable speed, underwater de-mountable thrusters for the Main propulsion

The AEGIR is equipped with DP 3 class system, for which Four (4) 3.2 MW fixed pitch, variable speed, retractable thrusters are instelled and one (1) 2.5 MW fixed pitch, variable speed tunnel thruster for DP and maneuvering

The HUISMAN Pipelay Equipment will be installed, when the vessel arrives in The Netherlands at the HUISMAN premises in Schiedam, this equipment is a pipe-lay tower capable of laying pipe in J-lay (quads) or Reel-lay mode. J-lay max capacity 32” OD 2,000mT top tension, Reel-lay max capacity 16”OD and 800mT top tension.

The HUISMAN supplied A&R system with an 2,000 mT capacity is installed, the capacity of the 2 enormous storage reels is 6960 mtr each of 126 mm wire, the system has a

Deep water lowering capacity for 3,500 m waterdepth equipped with an active and passive heave compensation system up to 750 mT

On portside and starboardside of the vessel an ROV hangar is installed, which will be equipped each side with an ROV work class systems, furthermore each hangar will be equipped with a launch and recovery systems (LARS) suitable for 3500 m waterdepth

After being on the Deawoo Shipyard for nearly 2 days, and meeting the Heerema newbuilding team and the Huisman commissioning team, I have to conclude that another “ Hollands Glorie” is created at present in Korea, the AEGIR is a very impressive work vessel, prepared for the offshore works in the deepwater future.

Herewith I would like to thank the HEEREMA newbuilding team and the HUISMAN commissioning team for the

hospitality during my stay in Okpo, it was nice meeting you all !! and wish you all the luck you need during the trials which will take place the coming weeks
