Strategies from experience ISDEN and ASET:

ISDEN means:
“Cristoforis Deneke MSC- Health Institute”It is a civil association that advices and accompany to ASET

ASET means:
“Tuberculosis Patients Association”.And Comas, is the name of the district where it is located.

First strategy: To work with people directly affected empowering them to be organized, and constitute Networks of TB Patients Associations
• Encourage them to be organized, change their attitude in front of the illness
• The Organization encourage them to use their best personal resources in fighting against the illness

• The proper patients encourage one to another to use his / her best personal resources in fighting against TB
• The organization is a source to strengthen and encourage them to look for their own recovery and of others in a fraternal way, and learn their rights and responsibilities and defend them.

• It is important to promote the TB organizations patients at local level and progressively construct networks of organized patients to achieve advocacy and political incidence in the fight against TB.
• Organized patients are a good allieds for health authorities and workers to accomplish the goals of TB control.

In Lima-Perú we have the ASET. It is anorganization in which all its members are looking for to resolve this difficult problemthat affects us by suffering of tuberculosis.

• ASET Comas, is a well known social organization
• by the majority of health centers, at the local health authorities and in the Ministery of Health.

• It is well known in its community and other places. It has established relations with others social organizations in the community and institutions

• Representing the TB patients in different situations.
• Give his witness in different places when they are required, showing and identifying as persons with TB overcoming the stigma.

Teaching in different places and encouraging the formation of others ASET in Lima and Callao.
By training patients as agents educators on TB for his/her families, other patients and people of the community.

• They are promoting ASET in other districts in Lima, Callao, and other states, since the 2000 year.

• Nowadays, ASET Comas, with the Global Fund project support, has promoted formation of “SolidaryNetwork TB Patients-Lima Callao” that put together 13 new ASET’s of different districts.

ASET has four important characteristics:
• Autonomy• Equality in rights• Ecumenically• Temporal membership

Second strategy
To work with patients, workers and community agents of health on getting sensibility, motivation and training in an integrate way, to involved them to share ideas, concerns, and initiatives in fighting against Tuberculosis.

ISDEN has elaborated and distributed:• - Written materials to different actors to be
used with the community• - Spots and broadcast microprograms, are
diffused by popular broadcast free of charge• - Just now, we are working in cooperation
with ASET a TV video about TB and ASET

• ISDEN and ASET are convinced in thenecessity of difussing short messages by media for long periods of time, that makespossible early dettection and treatment TB and help to overcome the stigma andmarginalization of the patients

Mesure the impactDirectly: • By the number of autonomous organizations of TB
affected people at local level and networks conformed that have an active life.
• Presence of the affected people in spaces of coordination and decision in different levels.
• Number of activities carried out by the organizations of TB patients.
• Time that messages about TB have been in the media.• Presence of TB problem in the public and politics
agenda in different levels

Indirectly. • Operational indicators : symptomatic
respiratory examined, abandonment treatment by patients and control of contacts.
