Course Details

Admission Requirements

The following requirements are necessary for admission to the programme:

Be a graduate with professional qualifications to practise as a physiotherapist at the country of origin/training;

Be a member of the physiotherapy association at the country of origin/training;

Possess at least 2 years of work experience in the field of physiotherapy; and

Fulfil any one of the following minimum English language requirements:

Currently working/residing in Singapore

• IELTS (Academic) : 5.5 • TOEFL (internet based) : 70 • TOEFL (Computer based) : 196 • TOEFL (paper) : 525

Certificate of Completion

Participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion for having successfully completed the programme upon accomplishing the following:

80% attendance at workshops and classes; and Pass the theory and practical examinations for all

modules. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued to participants who failed to meet the above two criteria.

Cancellation Policy Any cancellation must be conveyed to PGAHI in writing. A cancellation fee of 50% of registration fee will be charged if the cancellation is received before 1 month (28 March 2017) prior to the commencement of the programme. There will be no refund of registration fee for cancellation 1 month or within 1 month on registration closing date. PGAHI reserves the right to cancel the workshop and fully refund the amount of registration fee paid to the participants should unforeseen circumstances necessitate it.

Introduction

The Advanced Certificate in Physiotherapy (ACP) programme is a 4 month part-time programme that aims to elevate the standard of physiotherapy knowledge and practical skills among foreign-trained physiotherapists to a level that prepares them for Qualifying Examination (QE), conducted by the Ministry of Health, Singapore.

Outline

The programme has four major components: Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy, Neurologic Physiotherapy and Paediatric Physiotherapy & Women’s Health. The contents include essential knowledge and skills, as well as fostering clinical reasoning development. Each component is delivered using a combination of online discussions, lectures and evening/weekend workshops to enhance learning.

Methodology

The programme uses a variety of innovative methods to enhance learning. It involves a combination of online discussions, classroom tutorials, practical lectures and assessments weeknight/ evening workshops. The programme is suited to adult independent learning but with a focus on understanding and meeting the requirements for success in QE.

This programme runs once per year. The participants are expected to take on active roles in participating in online discussions and workshops. Assessments include written assignments, presentations, theory and practical examinations. All the classes will be conducted after working hours.

Objectives

At the end of this programme, participants will: demonstrate entry-level knowledge and skills for

physiotherapy practice in musculoskeletal, neurologic, cardiopulmonary, paediatric and women’s health areas

appreciate the role of physiotherapy in the acute-care hospital setting in Singapore

develop confidence to undertake QE
