Holly has used her God-given talents to develop a music ministry that has allowed her to spread the gospel throughout churches in Tennessee, Indiana, and Alabama. Holly’s passion is to minister through the singing of hymns, southern gospel, inspirational country, and patriotic music; leaving her audience inspired with messages of faith, patriotism, and love. Holly is also a highly sought-after vocalist for the National Anthem, having earned repeat invitations through the years to perform for the Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis 500 Pole Day, Nashville Sounds, Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame banquets, and the Memphis Grizzlies & Redbirds. Holly is blessed to have her husband join her in music ministry. Lee began playing the trumpet at the age of twelve. His musical talents led him to Auburn University where he obtained a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies. He completed his Masters degree in Music Composition and Arranging at the University of North Texas. Lee has developed his own music services company where he serves as a freelance arranger and orchestrator, creating custom musical arrangements for clients including Word Music, LifeWay, and churches throughout the south. Holly and Lee are active members of Christ Church Nashville, where Holly is a member of the world-renowned Christ Church Choir and Lee is member of the praise band. GOOD NEWS SINGERS INFORMATION By MaryLee Atenhan The Good News Singers were busy spreading the good news by ministering Thursday, September 26 with a musical set, scripture and testimony at Brighton Gardens. Upcoming ministry opportunities are Friday, October 18, 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Morning Pointe, Brentwood and A Mini Christmas Program at the VA Hospital with caroling following in the many wards of the hospital. We are looking to partner with members of SeniorLink to help provide Scripture, testimonials and/or comfort to the many people we sing to by simply holding their hands or sitting by them. PLEASE NOTE: The Good News Singers will also be moving to a new rehearsal time and day beginning January 7, TUESDAY, from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon. Lunch from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Come join us and help spread the good news! Turkey and dressing, creamed potatoes, broccoli casserole, apple and walnut salad, rolls, red velvet cake, water/tea/coffee Mark and Amy met me in late August with Mark carrying their happy grandson, Parker, who was nine months old. I remembered how clever and sweet it was to see a baby smiling while still “munching” on his pacifier. Parker’s parents are teachers, and Mark and Amy care for Parker Monday through Friday “whenever school is in session”. Mark was raised in Pasadena, Maryland, and graduated from high school in 1970. He began his work career as a teenager washing dishes at a Howard Johnson’s restaurant and worked his way up to manager. Mark also worked with his family’s excavating business operating heavy equipment. He owned several restaurants in the area also. Mark ended his career working as the training manager with Dollar General and retired in 2016. Amy was raised in Pennsylvania, moved to Maryland in 1968 and graduated from high school in 1970. She graduated from the University of Maryland School of Nursing in 1974. Beginning as a public health nurse for Baltimore City, she worked at the University of Maryland Full-Term Nursery. She was employed by MedStar Harbor Hospital for 35 years as a staff nurse and became manager of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Amy ended her career as the RN Nurse Recruiter for MedStar Health and retired in 2016. Mark and Amy met at the Howard Johnson’s restaurant in Pikeville, Maryland, in September 1972. Mark was the manager, and Amy’s sister, Debby, recommended that Mark hire Amy. Mark had no qualms about hiring Amy, thinking that Debby’s sister would work with efficiency and integrity also. Mark invited Amy to The Painter’s Mill Music Fair where they saw ice skater, Peggy Fleming. They were engaged three months later in December 1972 and married in June 1973. Amy was raised in the Episcopal church. After marrying Mark, she joined Lake Shore Baptist in 1974 and became a youth teacher for more than 20 years. She started a College and Career class as well as a class for young people in their 20’s. Amy cared for her elderly parents in their home for two years. Following their passing, Amy took over and led an advanced Senior Women’s Bible study. Mark’s mother was one of the founding members of Lake Shore Baptist in Pasadena, Maryland, which began in a local elementary school with the choir meeting in Mother Foy’s living room. Vacation Bible School was held in an Army tent in their backyard. Mark and Amy were youth teachers and Mark later became the Sunday School director, serving for about 25 years while he ran many training sessions for church teachers. The couple moved to Tennessee in June 2018. Daughter Becky and her husband Jeff Taylor live in Cane Ridge, Tennessee. Daughter Kelly and her husband Ken live in College Grove, Tennessee, and have three children: Tyler (age 15), Addison (age 7) and Parker (age 9 months). Mark and Amy attended their first LifeGroup at Brentwood Baptist in 2018. They were surprised to see Aubrey and Betty Stewart sit down in the row ahead of them. Aubrey had visited Lake Shore Baptist in Maryland years earlier and met Mark Foy, the Sunday School director. Aubrey was the Sunday School director for the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware. When Aubrey and Betty asked, “Where do you live now?”, the couples found that they both resided in Spring Hill, just one street away from each other! Mark and Amy agree that the greatest memories of their lives have been the births of their two daughters, Becky and Kelly, and seeing each daughter make her profession of faith in Jesus as they were baptized. Mark and Amy enjoy exploring small towns in Tennessee. Mark spends his free time working on home projects and helping Amy with gardening. Amy also enjoys baking, sewing, and embroidery. They attend the Early Risers LifeGroup which is taught by Rodney Taylor. By Judy Small MARK AND AMY FOY DECEMBER MENU SENIORLINK DINNER

SENIORLINK DISCOVERS THE LEGACY OF HELEN KELLER By Tom Vasser

On September 24, forty-three seniors boarded a motor coach bound for Helen Keller’s birthplace in Tuscumbia, Alabama, for an opportunity to experience the miracle of a person who overcame unbelievable handicaps to succeed and become an example for all of us.

Helen Keller was born in 1880 with the ability to see and hear. However, at 19 months old, she contracted an illness that left her both deaf and blind. Alexander Graham Bell referred her to the Perkins Institute for the Blind in Boston where Helen Keller first met Anne Sullivan. Anne finger spelled the names of familiar objects into Helen’s hands, and one day at the famous family water pump, Helen realized what Anne was teaching and understood that everything had a name. That was the beginning of a life of miracle accomplishments.

Our seniors not only enjoyed this remarkable story but also fell in love with Helen’s homeplace that is now 199 years old (built in 1820) and perfectly preserved. The home is surrounded by beautiful boxwood trees that are over 150 years old. The home contains much of the original furniture and hundreds of mementos of Helen’s life.

After our visit, our seniors dined at Mama Jean’s Restaurant and ate more than we reasonably should have. But, when you have

a meal consisting of a meat and three vegetables for only $6.99 and peach cobbler for only 99 cents, you quickly understand that you can always diet tomorrow.

Our group had a perfect day to cruise through some of the most beautiful country backroads of rolling hills, green pastures, white fields full of cotton, and blue skies. We truly enjoyed God’s wonderous creation.

Please plan to join our next SeniorLink trip and be a part of our Christian fellowship as we travel life’s road together. See Tom or Pearl Vasser for more information on how you can get involved.

Ladies and gentlemen, let’s give Bob a big hand…

Honey, could you give me a hand with…

I’ve got to hand it to you, Ed…

Oh, what an incredible creation God made with the hand! Did you know that the human hand is made up of four parts: fingers, palm, back, and wrist? And, guess how many bones there are. Nineteen! And, God made hands just like snowflakes; no two are alike! Gripping and holding are the two main uses of a hand. It can be done with the whole hand or just two fingers.

So, what does the Bible say about hands? Very little about the actual use of the hand is found in Scripture. However, there is in Acts 6:6, where seven were chosen to serve, “They had them stand before the apostles who prayed, and laid their hands on them.”

How do you use your hands? As Christians we do some, if not all, of the following: praying, lifted in praise, touching, hugging, holding on to one who is hurt, laying of hands,

helping one with a garment, serving the Lord’s supper, feeding a loved one, or wiping away a tear. The list is endless. How did Jesus use his hands? See the list above. Importantly, He most always used his hands in love.

You can be hands on, or give someone a helping hand, or get or give hand-me-ups or downs, or shake hands, or clap your hands, or give a high-five or fist bump, or punch or caress with your hands, or give a slap on the back or spank a bottom, or point with your hands. Most of all, you can love God—hands down! Hands are a precious instrument God gave us! Use them wisely.
