ENGINEERING INSTRUCTIONS for ADSL 2+ CPE (Type- 1 & 2)

Model No. (i) DNA-A201BEI (Type-1) & (ii) DNA-A211-I (Type -2) (Vendor Specific: M/s ITI Ltd., Bangalore-16)

1. Scope This Engineering Instructions document describes about the Technology, Services and Installation procedures, functional details of DNA-A201BEI CPE (Type 1) & DNA-A211-I CPE/Router(Type-2) which is supplied by M/s ITI Limited., Bangalore, through their technology partner M/s SemIndia Systems Private Limited., Bangalore to BSNL. This document is prepared assuming that most of the customers will be using windows operating system. However other Operating Systems like Linux, Macintosh are also supported.

2. Introduction DNA-A201BEI and DNA-A211-I are ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ CPE/Routers which delivers High speed data over existing phone lines without interfering with the voice signals. The frequency of the ADSL signal is higher than that of voice, so voice and ADSL signal can coexist in one line by using a splitter to insulate each from the other.

DNA-A201BEI supports 1Ethernet and 1 USB interfaces and DNA-A211-I supports 4 Ethernet ports and 1 Wi-Fi interface.

3. Technology General An ADSL2+ CPE/Router is a broadband Internet access device, which utilizes the high frequency segment of the phone line to transmit high-speed data without affecting the voice transmission. ADSL2+ data transfer adapts the asymmetry model. It supports upload transmission speed up to 1Mbps and download speed up to 24Mbps. Both are backward compatible with standard ADSL. Simple and easy to operate and establish connection to Internet, and both the models support TR-064, compatibility with BSNL’s infrastructure is ensured. Thess devices also support TR-069, which ensures remote management by BSNL to automatically update the firmware and other settings.

• Compatible and interoperable with most central office side ADSL DSLAM or Multi-service. • Interchangeable between Bridge and Router mode. • QoS (802.1P) support.

• Routing function.

• DHCP function.

• Maximum downstream transmission rates of 24Mbps for ADSL2+.

• Maximum upstream transmission rates of 1Mbps

• Transmission distance up to 6 km.

3.3. Application of the DNA-A211-I (Type 2 CPE)

The DNA-A211-I is a 4 Ethernet + 1 Wi-Fi CPE/Router typically designed for Small sized LANs, Small Office and Home Office and residential customers, the DNA-A211-I is an ADSL2+ CPE/Router, which combined the function of high-speed DSL CPEs, wireless access point and 4 ports Ethernet router.

The DNA-A211-I supports the latest ADSL2/2+ standards to provide higher performance (up to 24Mbps* downstream and 1Mbps* upstream) and longer

reach from BSNL’s Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM). The DNA-A211-I is also backward compatible with ADSL standards. DNA-A211-I can be used to create a wireless network to connect 802.11b/g devices as well as a wired network to connect up to four 10/100 Ethernet devices. With enhanced security and firewall features the DNA-A211-I is an ideal system for small sized LAN, IPTV and triple play services ready with Multicast, IGMP and QoS support.

4.2 Interface descriptions (Common to both the models)

Interface Description

Power Plug in for power adaptor.

ON/OFF Power ON/OFF Switch.

Reset Press CPE Reset button to perform a hard reset. Holding the reset button for up to 15 seconds will take you to Software recovery Mode.

Caution: This action will cause current setting to be lost and the CPE goes to factory default configuration.

Ethernet LAN interfaces for connecting to computer or Switch.

DSL DSL interface for connecting to ADSL Line.

6.2 Installation Sequence for DNA-A201BEI CPE (Type -1) Hardware Installation

DNA-A201BEI CPE can either be connected using Ethernet port or USB port. Please follow the instructions given below to install your ADSL CPE.

Procedure for Installation • Connect the Power Adaptor to the Power Socket of your ADSL CPE and then switch it ON. • Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port of your ADSL CPE.

• Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into your computer’s Ethernet port i.e., Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC). • If USB port option is used instead of Ethernet then plug the one end of the USB cable to the CPE USB port. • Plug the other end to the USB interface to the USB port of PC. • Plug the telephone cable into the LINE port of your ADSL CPE.

• Plug the other end of the telephone cable into CPE port of the ADSL Splitter as shown in the figure below:

• A Pop-up message appears as shown in the below picture.

• Click Next, new window will be shown as below

• Select “Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)”, then press Next> button.

• If your CPE USB driver is in CD-ROM, please select CD –ROM. If USB driver is in another location, please select Specify a location. Then press Next> button. Windows will Search and find the USB driver and automatically install the driver.

• Wait for a few seconds, until the below picture is displayed. Click the “Finish” button to complete the USB driver installation.

When you have completed USB driver installation, Your PC will add new adapter networks connection (Local Area Connection will be created in Control Panel Network and Dial-up Connections) .It means you have successfully installed ADSL CPE USB driver .Now you can configure your CPE same as Ethernet, and connect to Internet.

6.3 Installation Procedures (DNA-A 211-I Type-2) Package Contents The package includes following items.

6.4 Installation Sequence of DNA-A211-I CPE (Type-2) Hardware Installation

DNA-A211-I CPE can either be connected using Four Ethernet ports or Wi-Fi Interface. Please follow the instructions given below to install your ADSL2+ CPE.

Procedure for Installation • Connect the Power Adaptor to the Power Socket of your ADSL CPE

and then switch it ON. • Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port of your ADSL CPE.

• Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into your computer’s Ethernet port i.e., Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) as shown in the figure below. • Plug the telephone cable into the LINE port of your ADSL CPE. • Plug the other end of the telephone cable into CPE port of the ADSL Splitter as shown in the figure below:

Configure IP Address to access PC (Common to both Models) Configure your PC IP address to access your CPEs GUI in any of the following two methods. • Static Configuration • Dynamic Configuration (using DHCP)

Procedure to configure your PC IP address to access your CPE’s GUI is same for Ethernet ,Wi-Fi interface and USB.

Before proceeding, it is important to take note of the following default settings of your CPE.

• Management IP Address: 192.168.1.1 • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 • Username: admin • Password: admin

6.5.1 Static Configuration (Common to both Models) Please follow the instructions given below for Static Configuration

• Click on “Start” button of your computer, go to “Settings” and then select “Network and Dial-Up Connections”.

• Select the network adapter to which your ADSL+ CPE is connected. Right click on it and go to Properties. • Select Internet Protocol [TCP/IP] and then click on “Properties” button. • Select “Use the following IP address” and assign 192.168.1.x (x ranges from 2 to 254, as 192.168.1.1 is the default IP address of the CPE) and subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Then click on “OK” button. • Click on “OK” button of the Local Area Connection Properties Windows.

6.5.2 Dynamic Configuration (Common to both Models)

Please follow the instructions given below for Dynamic Configuration

• Click on “Start” button of your computer, go to “Settings” and then select “Network and Dial-Up Connections”. • Select the network adapter to which your ADSL CPE is connected. Right click on it and go to Properties. • Select Internet Protocol [TCP/IP] and then click on “Properties” button. • Select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and then click on “OK” button. • Click on “OK” button of the Local Area Connection Properties Window.

6.5.3 Verify the link between your PC and the ADSL CPE (Common to both models)

• Click on “Start” button of your computer and go to “Run”. • Type “ping 192.168.1.1 –t” and click on “OK” button as shown in the figure below.

• If the connection has been established, you will receive reply from your ADSL CPE as shown in the figure below.

• If you receive “Request timed out.” as shown in the figure below, then it means that the IP address is not configured properly. If you get “Hardware Error” message, the please check the Ethernet / USB cable connectivity.

6.5.4 Login (common to both models) • Launch the Web browser (Internet Explorer or any other browser), and enter the default IP address of the CPE i.e., 192.168.1.1 into the address bar to access the Web management page. • The Login dialog box will appear as shown in below figure.

• Enter User name as “admin” and Password as “admin”, then click OK.

6.5.5 CPE Configuration for Internet Browsing (common to both models)

To configure CPE for Internet Browsing using PPPoE mode, follow the steps given below:

• Go to Advanced Setup WAN Click on Edit button.

• Enter port as 0, VPI as 0 and VCI as 35, then click on “Next” as shown in the following snap shot.

• Select Connection Type as PPPoE as shown in following snap shot, then click on “Next” button.

• Enter PPP Username and PPP Password provided by BSNL as shown in the following snap shot, then click on “Next” button.

• Make sure that NAT and Firewall are enabled as shown in the following snap shot and then click on “Next” button.

• Verify the configuration done by you from the WAN Setup Summary as shown in the snap shot below and then click on Save/Reboot button to save the configuration.

• Wait until CPE reboots and then observe for the WAN IP in WAN Info page as shown in the snap shot below.

• Now open the Internet Explorer or any other browser and check for the Browsing.

provided with the CPE.

6.5.6 Procedure for Wi-Fi configuration (DNA –A 211-I Type -2 )

The Wireless option in the CPE will be enabled and SSID is ITI by default. Wireless section of the CPE allows the user to configure the wireless security settings, etc. The detailed description is given below.

• To configure the security features of the Wireless LAN interface, go to Wireless Security Select Network Authentication as WPA-PSK Enter the Pre-Shared Key (Enter around 8 numbers that you want save as WPA Pre- Shared Key). Then click on “Save/Apply” button as shown in the below snap shot.

• To view the configured Pre-Shared Key click on the link “Click here to display”. This will open a window to show the key that you have configured as shown in the below picture.

While connecting your PC to the CPE using Wi-Fi, Enter the

same WPA Pre-Shared Key that is configured in the CPE.

Quick Start Guide and User Manual in the CD provided with

the CPE.

7. Do’s and Don’ts (Common to both Models) 7.1 Do’s To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury, please adhere to the following safety guidelines: • Understand and implement the standard electrical safety, electrical

wiring and connection practices. • Knowledge on using tools and instruments for installation and testing is

recommended to avoid damage or injury to both person and the equipment.

• Carefully follow the instructions in this document; also follow all instruction labels on this device. • Except for the power adapter supplied, this device should not be

connected to any other adapters. • It is recommended to always use the splitter supplied along with the

CPE. Failing to use may damage your CPE.

7.2 Don’ts • Do not spill liquid of any kind on this device. • Do not place the unit on an unstable stand or table. This unit may drop

and may get damaged.

• Do not expose this unit to direct sunlight. • Do not place any hot devices close to this unit, as they may degrade or

cause damage to the unit.

7.3 Fault Analysis

It was noticed during fault analysis of the field returned DNA-A211-I (Type 2) modems that DSL section was damaged in some Modems received from Coastal Areas (Kerala & Mangalore). M/s ITI deputed its technology partner M/s SEM India’s team of Engineers to analyze the Cause and field survey was conducted. It was found that some of the Installed Modems were not connected through the supplied Splitter. Splitter supplied along with the Modem has K.21 Protection Circuitry which is primary protection for Modem against the Lightening and Surge voltages. It is always recommended that the splitter is installed and LJU is used in the installation. Refer -Figure 6 (Page 16) for diagrammatic representation of the installation to be followed.

8. Conclusion ADSL2+ CPE/Router is an ideal device for broadband access; IPTV over Broadband Connection, Internet Gaming Services, IP based Video Conferencing which complies with ITU G.992.1, G.992.2, G.992.3, and G.992.5, Annex-A/M ADSL standards. Both the CPEs provide high speed Internet access via one WAN port over ATM over ADSL, and also connects to the corporate network via a 10/100BaseT Ethernet port. Both the CPEs offer convenient configuration and management locally by telnet, SNMP, and a web-browser through the Ethernet interface, and remotely through the ADSL interface. Also support TR-64 LAN management protocol for Zero touch Broadband activation and customer care.

10. Terminology • TR-64: It is the CPE LAN Management protocol. This protocol allows

a local user to view and change the settings of the CPE.

• TR-69: It is the CPE WAN Management protocol. This protocol allows a remote user to view and change the settings of the CPE.

• IP Multicast: This is a type of communication in which a single host sends data to a group of receivers.

• IGMP V1/V2: Internet Group Management Protocol is a protocol used for multicasting. IP hosts use this protocol to report their host group memberships to any immediately neighboring multicast routers. V1 and V2 are the two different versions of IGMP.

• IPV6: It is the second generation of the Internet Protocol. This is an extended version of the current IPV4 implementation of IP address to include larger address space than IPv4. This results from the use of a 128-bit address, whereas IPv4 uses only 32 bits. The new address space thus supports 2128 (about 3.4×1038) addresses. This expansion provides flexibility in allocating addresses and routing traffic. IPv6 also implements new features that simplify aspects of address assignment (stateless address auto configuration) and network renumbering (prefix and router announcements) when changing Internet connectivity providers.

• Port Mapping: It is a feature which allows different ports to be mapped to different IP addresses so that any traffic arriving at those ports will be forwarded to the corresponding IP addresses to which it is mapped.

• PVCs: Permanent Virtual Circuit is a temporary communication path created between devices in a switched communications system. It is a software-defined logical connection in a network.

• VPI: Virtual Path Identifier is used to identify the next destination of a cell as it passes through a series of ATM switches on its way to its destination.

• VCI: Virtual Circuit Identifier, together with the Virtual Path Identifier (VPI) is used to identify the next destination of a cell as it passes through a series of ATM switches on its way to its destination.
