Adrian D. Smith (born August 19, 1944) is an American architect who has designed skyscrapers including the BurjKhalifa, Jin Mao Tower and Trump International Hotel and Tower, as well as the proposed 1000m (unknownoperator: u'strong'ft) Kingdom Tower for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan Tower which would rise to about1,050m (3,445ft) with 189 floors for Baku, Azerbaijan
EducationSmith attended Texas A&M University, pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture while being involved with the Corps ofCadets. However he did not graduate, and instead left A&M to work at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) in1967.[1] He finished his education at the University of Illinois, Chicago and graduated in 1969.
CareerSmith worked on numerous projects at SOM from 19672006. He then left to co-found Adrian Smith + Gordon GillArchitecture. Because of the long design cycle for major projects, he has continued to win awards and recognitionfor work he did during his long stint at SOM.

RecognitionProjects Smith designed have won 5 international awards, 8 National AIA awards, 22 Chicago AIA awards, and 2ULI Awards for Excellence.[2] He was the recipient of the CTBUH 2011 Lynn S. Beedle Lifetime AchievementAward[3]. Smith's work at SOM has been featured in museums in the United States, South America, Europe, Asiaand the Middle East. He is a Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council.[4]

Burj KhalifaThe Burj Khalifa, in Dubai is the holder of the title of Worlds Tallest Building. Adrian Smith was the DesignPartner at SOM for the Burj Khalifa, officially opened on the 4th of January 2010.
