ADNA SCHOOL DISTRICT #226 November - December 2015

ADNA ELEMENTARY BOND INFORMATION

Adna provides a Highly Capable program for qualified students. The revised WAC 392-170 moved highly capable programs into basic education. The legislature determined that access to accelerated learning and enhanced instruction is access to basic education. As a result, school districts will identify and serve highly capable students in grades k-12 during the

school day.

During the 2014-15 school year all students were given a screening test (CogAT 7). This year, kindergarten and new students will be screened and parents of students who quali-fy for further testing will be notified to obtain permission for evaluation. In addition, teachers, parents or students can nominate a student for the program. Nomination forms are available from the principal. Multiple factors, including assessment data, are used to determine eligibility. A Highly Capable Program selection committee makes the final deci-

sion.

If you have questions or need a nomination form, please

contact your students principal.

Reid Caviness, Nate Scheuber and Gabriella Solem learning about architecture with Adna elementary architect Trent Hart of Tovani-Hart Architects as part of the Highly Capable Program.

The Adna School Board of Directors is looking to address several needs at the rapidly aging elementary. The District is asking for voter approval in the November 3rd election for an 8.1 million dollar Construction Bond that would expand and remodel the Elementary School. The projected tax rate is $1.97 per $1000 assessed value. The bond would allow for the modernization of all classrooms, restrooms, kitch-en area, office spaces, asbestos abatement, building systems and upgrade student security measures. This bond would fund a dedicated student lunchroom, gymnasium, additional parking and address the aging roof. Adna Elementary was built in 1980 for approximately 200 students, while today it serves 247 students. Classes currently use spaces designed for storage and meet in portables. The expansion

would create four new classrooms, which would accommodate all current students and prepare the district for continued growth.

The Adna Citizen’s Committee (ACC) has committed to aide the district in helping provide information to our community regarding the No-vember 3rd election. The ACC wants you to have more information regarding bonds and levies so you can make the best decisions for our children and community. If you would like additional information regarding the ACC, please contact Jennifer Krueger at krue-

Students are able to access this resource at home and practice an unlimited amount of mathematical skills and questions. The site’s resources are aligned with the Common Core Standards and allows each student to learn at their own pace. Your elementary child should have the necessary information to log-on and practice from home. If you have any questions please

call the office at 360-748-7029.
