Administrative Medical Assistant Training Program Program Summary: As an Administrative Medical Assistant, the student will be trained to perform administrative work using specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Enjoy a rewarding career in healthcare where your responsibilities may include scheduling appointments, billing patients, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence. This course consists of 130-hours of accelerated classroom training with emphasis on skills mastery through hands-on practice and supervision and a 50-hour clinical. (Total 180 hours) Course Fee: $1499 Includes access to online NHA study guides and practice exams, consumable supplies, clinical insurance, name tag and course completion certificate. Financial Assistance: Students with a need for financial assistance may contact Sallie Mae for a loan, or use MyCAA benefits. Starting Pay: $11-17 per hour. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, employment of administrative medical assistants is expected to increase more than 23% through the year 2026. Certification: Upon successful completion of the course and clinical, students will receive a certificate of completion. Additionally, students will qualify to take the optional Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) certification examination offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). The exam costs appoximately $115 and can be proctored at the Continuing Education Department. Program Requirements: Students must be 18 years of age at the time of enrollment. Students need compe- tency in basic computer operations and will be required to have access to the internet, printing capabilities and an email address. Registration packets* must include: High School diploma/transcript or G.E.D or transcripts of higher education. Goals and Purpose: Upon successful completion of the course and clinical, students will receive a certif-

icate of completion from Central Texas College. Graduates will be qualified to take the optional certifica-

tion examination for Administrative Medical Assisting offered by the National Healthcareer Association

(NHA). This program was designed to provide thorough didactic and practical instruction and a basic

systems overview of the role of the medical assistant in a practical setting. Didactic lectures cover the

theory, anatomy and terminology pertaining to each system. Practical instruction provides hands-on

training in the listed procedures verified through a skills check-off system.

Conditions for Repetition: If the student does not receive a 75% or higher in the course as well as a

passing score of 75% on the midterm and final exam, he or she will not be allowed to participate in the

clinical and will not receive their certificate of completion. The student may repeat the class at their own

expense.

Outcomes and Objectives:

After successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. Create, document, and maintain patient medical records.2. Correlate coding, billing, and collecting.

3. Perform bookkeeping tasks.4. Schedule appointments.5. Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills.6. Successfully perform basic vital signs (i.e. BP, Pulse, and Respirations).7. Use spreadsheet software to manage financial data.

8. Define, pronounce, and spell medical terms with the use of medical references as resource tools.9. Analyze and utilize medical terms in context.10. Demonstrate basic keyboarding techniques.11. Communicate appropriately with patients while assisting with busy clinic flow.

12. Employ techniques for successful patient interaction including professional protocol, and communication.

13. Create, format and edit documents.14. Create, document, and maintain patient medical records.15. Correlate coding, billing, and collecting.

16. Perform bookkeeping tasks.17. Develop professional-looking worksheets; create charts and graphs.18. Create and use spreadsheet lists (basic database management.19. Use spreadsheet’s editing and web tools.20. Work with formulas and functions.21. Draft a resume that clearly communicates one’s value to an employer.

22. Utilize computer software for basic office functions.23. Examine word origin and structure through the introduction of prefixes, suffixes, root words, plurals,

abbreviations and symbols.

Clinical Requirements: Students are required to complete the 50-hour clinical in order to receive their certificate of completion. The student is to provide his/her own transportation to the assigned clinical site.

The student is responsible for completing the preclinical facility legal documentation requirements. The

student will be required to attend mandatory facility in-processing and/or training and/or orientation at

times other than regularly scheduled clinical/class hours. The student will not be allowed to participate in clinicals without required mandatory training. Failure to comply with the mandatory requirements for admission to the affiliated facility for clinical education experience may result in administrative withdrawal

from the course. Additional clinical information will to given to students in class. Clinical location placement will be within 80 miles of Central Texas College.
