Balanced scorecards (BCS) are used to track strategic levels; his purpose is “to translate strategy into measures that uniquely communicate your vision to the organization”. BSC try to maximize results based on four perspectives that reflect the vision and strategy, these perspectives are: Financial; Internal; Customer; and Innovation and Learning. Dashboards are used to track key measurements at the operational. They are used by organizations to help define specific targets that are aligned with the organization’s strategic goals These both tools work together in an improvement project and each of it has its utility in another. The information will mostly be in form of metrics translating strategy by BSC into action. The effectiveness of a strategy will be judged when it is executed and followed up, and the dashboard helps focus on it, tracking outcomes and goals that are to be achieved, following the Six Sigma improvement project concepts.

Q 3 - What are dashboards and balanced scorecards? How do they support Six Sigma projects?

Balanced scorecards (BCS) are used to track strategic levels; his purpose is to translate strategy into measures that uniquely communicate your vision to the organization. BSC try to maximize results based on four perspectives that reflect the vision and strategy, these perspectives are: Financial; Internal; Customer; and Innovation and Learning.

Dashboards are used to track key measurements at the operational. They are used by organizations to help define specific targets that are aligned with the organizations strategic goals

These both tools work together in an improvement project and each of it has its utility in another. The information will mostly be in form of metrics translating strategy by BSC into action. The effectiveness of a strategy will be judged when it is executed and followed up, and the dashboard helps focus on it, tracking outcomes and goals that are to be achieved, following the Six Sigma improvement project concepts.

Q 23 How does the Lean Six Sigma differ from the traditional concept of Six Sigma?

Actually Six Sigma and Lean systems have the same goal. They both seek to eliminate waste and create the most efficient system possible. Lean concepts assert that waste comes from unnecessary steps in the production process which dont improve the final product, for example: inventory, material flow and safety. In other hand, Six Sigma concepts say that waste results from variation within the process, like error and defects. In simplest terms, the main difference between Lean and Six Sigma is the difference to identify the root cause of waste.
