REPORT National Conference on the ‘Advances in Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences’ (ACEES – 2021) Faridabad, 14 January – A two-day National Conference on the ‘Advances in Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences’ (ACEES - 2021), jointly organized by the Department of Civil Engineering and Department of Environmental Sciences of J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad began here on Thursday. About 150 participants comprising of researchers, faculty members, industry experts and students from different part of the country are participating in this conference. The Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva was the Chief Guest in inaugural session of the Conference which was presided over by Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dinesh Kumar. Senior Principal Scientist of CSIR-NEERI Delhi Zonal Centre Dr. S.K. Goyal, Prof. K. N. Jha from IIT, Delhi and National President of Indian Building Congress (IBC), New Delhi Mr. Pradeep Mittal were keynote speakers in the inaugural session. Speaking on this occasion Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva, who is also an eminent professor of Civil Engineering, said that Civil Engineering, being the oldest branch, plays a significant role in physical development of the country that contributes towards economic growth in big way. While highlighting the architectural importance of historical monuments of the country, he said that due to technological advances, new techniques and materials are being which has increased the importance of the use of research ahead of these technological developments for sustainable development. In his presidential address, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar greeted the participants on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. He said that due to intensive infrastructural growth and urbanisation, the environmental degradation has been occurring very rapidly and causing many problems like worsening water quality, excessive air pollution, and the problems of waste disposal. To meet these environmental issues and challenges, we have to integrate the principals of sustainable development with our development policies and plans. Therefore, Civil Engineering and Environmental Scientist would have to work together with new technological advances to preserve the environment. Earlier, Chairperson of Civil Engineering Prof. M.L. Aggarwal welcomed the guests and the participants. Chairperson of Environmental Sciences Dr. Renuka Gupta gave a brief introduction on the conference. She apprised that as many as 70 research papers received from the participants of different States including Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, J&K and New Delhi would be present in different eight technical sessions and quality papers will be awarded with Best Research Paper Award. The session concluded with vote of thanks by Registrar Dr. S.K. Garg. The sessions were coordinated by the conference convener Dr. Sombir Bazar and Dr. Vishal Puri.

‘Advances in Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences’ (ACEES - 2021), jointly
organized by the Department of Civil Engineering and Department of Environmental
Sciences of J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad held on
15.1.2021 (Friday) . About 100 participants comprising of researchers, faculty members,
industry experts and students from different part of the country participated in this
function.
Professor Virender Kumar Vijay ,IRDEA Chair from Centre for Rural Development and
Technology ,IIT Delhi was the Chief Guest in valedictory session of the Conference
which was presided over by Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dinesh Kumar. Sh.
B.R.Chauhan , Sr Advisor CIDC was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Speaking on this occasion Prof. Virender Kumay Vijay raised concern regarding
polluting of soil,water with the increased phase of development in the country. Culture
and philosophy has to changed.He emphasised that bookish knowledge regarding
environment is not sufficient for addresing the environmental concern. Practical learning
is much more important. For this , students to put tent near river or villages for few days
and feel the environmental change.
Self reliant villages and city have to own system suited to indian conditions and do not
follow on Western system. Enegry systems have to short ranged from local rural
energy sources. It will avoid long range transmission losses and expenditure.There is
need for “ Vocal for Local “ in the use of energy sources. It will make India Self
reliant(Atam Nirbhar).
Er. B.R.Chauhan,Sr. Advisor CIDC, Senior Auditor, All India :Safety, Health
and Environment stressed the need of close cordination in
construction/industrial sector and Instituitions for addressing environmental
issues.The skill and new ideas are required to solve many problems like paddy
straw burning.
In his presidential address, the Vice Chancellor said that Civil Engineering and
Environmental Scientist would have to work together with new technological advances
to preserve the environment. To meet these environmental issues and challenges, we
have to integrate the principals of sustainable development with our environmental
concerns.The keynote speeches of several experts from IIT’s and Industry in this
conference will open new innovative ideas in the mind of young scientist. He
congratulated 62 young researchers who presented papes in the conference.
Earlier, Chairperson of Civil Engineering Prof. M.L. Aggarwal welcomed the guests and
the participants. Chairperson of Environmental Sciences Dr. Renuka Gupta gave a vote
of thanks on the conference. Dr Somvir presented report of conference proceedings
while Best Paper Awards were declared by convener Dr Vishal Puri for 8 technical
sessions.
