KMS and VSPC discussed a possible group press fam trip with Swiss media in late May/early June 2017. In this context, VSPC contacted the Swiss airline Edelweiss in order to ask for support on flight tickets. Edelweiss’ answer is pending.

Group press fam trip

Germany November 2017

KMS and VSPC discussed a group press fam trip from Frankfurt in November 2017. In this context, we contacted Mr. Jachnow from Lufthansa to request support for the flight tickets.

Ms. Susanne Schaeffer AZUR Kreuzfahrtmagazin

April 22, 2017

After we met the journalist at ITB Berlin, we supported her with information about local parking facilities in Clearwater Beach. VSPC also arranged a dinner for her at the Opal Sands Resort on April 22nd. We will follow up with her once she returned from her cruise.

Mr. Daniel Frick/ Mr. Stephan Mor

Urlaubsguru.at May 14-19, 2017

KMS maintains the contact with Daniel Frick and Stephan Mor in order to plan the stay of intern Marino in our area. VSPC will support him with accommodations and activities for five days, May 14-19, 2017. Some ideas for his itinerary are: Sky surfing, JetLev, kayaking, snorkeling, pottery, glass blowing, brewery tour and visiting Tarpon Springs to see the sponge divers. VSPC will draft an itinerary for Marino and submit it to Urlaubsguru directly.

Mr. Dirk Baumgartl blu media

May 3-7, 2017

Mr. Baumgartl will visit the IGLTA Convention in early May 2017 and wants to research for a Florida story in several LGBT friendly destinations. In this context, VSPC agreed to host him from May 3-7, 2017. The itinerary was sent to him by VSPC directly. We will follow up with him when he has returned from his Florida round trip.

Mr. René Laemmel WOW - World of Wellness

October 2017

Mr. Laemmel has a strong interest in our area; he has published several articles about SPC already in 2013 and 2014. He contacted us to express his interest in an individual press fam trip to our area in October 2017 together with his wife/co-editor Ms. Manuela Laemmel. We forwarded his request to VSPC and got a positive feedback. However, we still need to sort out if the flight tickets for both of them can be supported. Maybe we can split the costs between VSPC and Edelweiss. We have not found a solution yet.

9. MARKET UPDATE

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL UNEXPECTEDLY STRONG TO START 2017 SHOWS

U.S. TRAVEL ASSOCIATION

International travel again defied growth expectations in February 2017, according to the U.S. Travel

Association’s Travel Trends Index (TTI)—but U.S. Travel economists still warn of a drop-off in

international travel going forward.

International travel data from February shows that international travel to the U.S. actually grew faster

than domestic travel that month.

The February data is notable because it captures the first full month after President Trump’s initial

executive order on visas and immigration, issued January 27. However, U.S. Travel economists stress

that because international travel is usually planned months in advance, the latest TTI is not a thorough

illustration of the executive order’s effect on demand for international travel to the U.S.

Said David Huether, the U.S. Travel Association’s senior vice president for research: “It’s important to

remember that there is a significant lag time between searches for international trips and when they’re

actually booked, and then another lag between bookings and the actual trip—typically a matter of

months. There’s a lot of data out there purporting to show a drop in international travel to the U.S.

because of President Trump’s executive order, but the reality is we do not have a definitive data picture

of the order’s impact yet.”

The TTI’s Current Travel Index (CTI) for domestic leisure travel, normally the bastion of travel growth in

the U.S., remained positive in February, but notably reflected the slowest year-over-year growth for the

sector in four years. Domestic business travel growth slipped into negative territory yet again.

However, these anomalous growth patterns (international travel growing, domestic travel slowing), are

expected to revert back to their previous norms in the months ahead, according to the TTI’s predictive

Leading Travel Index (LTI). International travel will likely decelerate, and domestic travel, both leisure

and business, will resurge.

The U.S. Travel Association developed the TTI in partnership with Oxford Economics, and draws from

multiple data sources to develop these monthly readings. In order to compile both the CTI and LTI

readings, the organization’s research team utilizes multiple unique non-personally identifiable data sets,

including:

FOREIGN TOURISTS SPEND FOUR TIMES AS MUCH AS LOCALS IN THE US

The official tourism board of the New York City reported to a leading news website that about 13 million

international travelers actually spend four times as much as that spent by the regional tourists of the

U.S. during their trips to this city.

On a normal day, New York City embraces an overwhelming 175,000 to 180,000 tourists, as per Chris

Heywood, Senior Vice President, global communications for NYC & Company.

Some of the top tourists are Australian and Brazilian tourists, contributing about $1.87 and $2 billion

respectively in this region in 2015.

The Europeans had been among the top five spenders.

On the other hand, the British travelers to the Big Apple had an average spending of nearly $1.6 billion in

the year 2015, while the French travelers spent $1.11 billion and the Germans had spent $1.1 billion.

Almost nine out of 10 foreign visitors generally go out for shopping as compared to lesser than three

domestic visitors, as reported by the local media.

Shopping is, after all the most popular activity for the international tourists dropping into the New York

City who come for sightseeing. However, this city is getting all geared up for a drop in revenue as it

estimates that 300,000 lesser number of foreign visitors would arrive here as compared to the same in

2016.

Trump’s restrictive travel policies that limit travel from the Muslim-majority countries also play a crucial

role in the number of international travelers visiting the city.

HARDER VISA RULES FOR EU MIGHT BRING BIG BLOW TO US TOURISM

The US visa-waiver program might undergo new rules and speculation under the Trump administration.

According to the current rules, it allows European passport holders to travel to America without a visa.

The secretary of homeland security, John Kelly said in a statement at George Washington University

allowing Europeans to travel to the US without a visa should be reviewed and pointed towards the

concern of over tourism. However, keeping up the hope, he added that they would have to start looking

very hard at that [visa-waiver] program… not eliminating it and not doing anything excessive.

Thousands of European passport holders have travelled to Iraq and Syria to fight for the so-called Islamic

State and Kelly said he feared the US visa-waiver program could be exploited by terrorists looking to

carry out attacks on US soil.

Apart from Poland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Cyprus, all EU countries are included within the US

visa-waiver program.

According to the travel experts, the US has until May to address the current imbalance – or face the

prospect of its citizens having to apply for visas to travel around the EU. It will, in reality create much

hardship for US citizens to travel around the EU – and vice versa.

Eduardo Santander, executive director of the European Travel Commission (ETC) said in a letter that

they are very concerned about the economic and political impact of a suspension of visa waiver for US

nationals.

Various Trump administration policies, of which the two drastically failed travel bans created much

discouragement in the holidaymakers from visiting America. According to the industry experts, the US is

set to see a 10.6 million decline in visitors over the next two years and it might result in an estimated

$18 billion drop of US economy. (Source: http://www.travelandtourworld.com/news/article/harder-visa-rules-for-eu-might-bring-big-blow-to-us-tourism/)

EXPERTS CLAIM TRUMP’S TRAVEL RULES DISCOURAGES TOURISTS

US President Donald Trump states that he wishes to keep people out from the US who seem to be a

threat to the national security of this region. But then, experts claim that his travel policies are

threatening the American travel business.

According to one of the studies, there has been a 10.6 million decline in the tourism figures this year.

And, it is estimated that the drop of 7% in the number of expected tourists would be costing the U.S.

economy more than $18 billion and about 107,000 jobs, as per Tourism Economics, a forecasting firm

used by the industry.

Over half of the lost business would be caused due to minimized travel from Canada and also Mexico.

But, experts mentioned that they are quite anxious about the tourism declines from the U.K. and western

Europe. In March, Trump declared a 90-day freeze on the visas for citizens of Yemen, Sudan, Somalia,

Libya, Iran, Libya and Syria. The visa restrictions have been blocked by the court.

The Trump government have also banned travellers from as many as 10 airports in the Muslim majority

nations from bringing in laptops inside the plane cabin.

However, these policy changes were quite limited. But, the debate they have caused has started to

discourage travel among globetrotters. Adam Sacks, president, Tourism Economics said that this travel

ban might affect less than 0.1% of all the tourists. But then, the entire concept of Trump’s travel policies

have given a harsh blow to the U.S. brand as a global destination.

Also, a relatively strong dollar have been known to adversely impact travel to the U.S.

Sacks said that currently they are forecasting a sharp drop in tourism numbers visiting the U.S. He added

that the bookings and survey data indicate that the travellers are adjusting their travel plans. Mike

McCormick, the executive director of the Global Business Travel Association said that it is just not leisure

travel but business travel is also likely to bear the brunt of Trump’s travel regulations.

Some of the travellers are anxious that they might confront with hassles at the border.

370 MILLION YOUNG TOURISTS WILL EXPLORE THE WORLD BY 2020:

UNWTO

The tourism of younger travelers appears to be quite a promising market of late.

This is due to the fact that the latest data released by the World Tourism Organization reveals that as

many as 370 million young tourists are expected to globetrot by 2020. Another figure estimates that for

the travelers between the ages of 18 and 26, the value of this marked would rise up to 320 billion dollars.

The relevant trends that the tourism businesses should be aware of include the dynamics of the tourism

market of the young people, the increase of student travel and reduced prices.

It has been proven that the young people usually never cancel their arrangements, Even diseases would

not compel them to change their minds when it comes to travelling.

And, the globalization of technology has made it even simpler for students to go for travels. During the

spring season, there is an increase on the bookings of young tourists. It is when the prices are lower that

the attention of the potential travelers are grabbed to the maximum extent. And, this generally applies

for students.

Young tourists are looking for destinations that offer them unrestricted access to the network.

T-Mobile is very popular since it offers unlimited text and internet in as many as 140 nations. Moreover,

young travelers always seek an inclusive booking experience, from where they can easily enjoy access to

every information.

MEXICO SURPASSES TURKEY TO BECOME THE EIGHTH MOST POPULAR

TOURIST DESTINATION IN THE WORLD

According to the UNWTO, Mexico has toppled Turkey to become the world’s eighth most popular tourist

destination. In the World Tourism Barometer, Mexico moved up from the ninth place and received 35

million visitors last year, compared to Turkey’s 28.3 million. Mexico dropped to 15th place in 2013 due to

security crisis, but the industry has been steadily recovering since then.

The federal government has said that it expects to be among the top five soon, given that foreign visitor

numbers are up 50% since 2012. Tourism revenues for Mexico also went up last year, fetching in US

$19.6 billion. Best performing markets were the Riviera Maya, Cancún, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and

Riviera Nayarit.

Although there are some political tensions and fears of violence in certain areas of the country, a survey

of travel agents saw their Mexico business grow during the past year.
