the Activity of professionals and managers in the labour market in Ireland Antal survey aims to determine how willing

professionals and managers are to change jobs. The report examines the ties between the employed, the unemployed and

contract workers: how many of them are actively looking for a job, how many are doing so passively, and how many are not

looking to change jobs altogether. The report also provides information regarding the number of individuals, who actually

changed jobs within last year and the motives that drove them towards job change. The survey was carried out on a group of

1600 respondents from across Poland. We hope that you will find this report interesting and that it will provide you with

information about the factors that professionals and managers consider important, as well as outline the ways in which you may

help them feel satisfied with their work and, consequently, improve the performance of your company.

Activity Of Professionals And Managers In The

Labour Market In Ireand Are you currently looking for a job?

25% of professionals and managers are actively seeking a new job. This marks a 2% drop in

comparison to the previous edition of the study. 53% of the respondents are passively seeking

a new job (making their CV available to interested parties through recruitment portals and

social media - they are open to new employment opportunities). Only 22% of mid and senior

level employees are not seeking new jobs at all.

Who is most likely to be actively looking for a new job?

Respondents aged between 31 and 40 (48%).

Individuals employed within the following sectors: FMCG – 40%; Pharmaceuticals and

Medical Devices (37%); Tourism (36%).

Professionals and managers employed in the following areas: HR (36%); Sales and Marketing

(34%) and Administration (31%).

the average monthly gross salary of individuals amounts to pln 11 592.

the average seniority among professionals and managers is 12 years.

Professionals and Managers of HR departments often change jobs because they are looking

for further development opportunities in the environment that will allow them to introduce

their own ideas and initiatives. HR specialists are very creative, as well as open to new market

trends and opportunities. With an excellent understanding of the business and an open

approach to its needs they are able to devise ideal human resource management solutions.

However, not all organisations are ready to use this to their advantage which makes

individuals who are open to new ideas more willing to look for new jobs.

Who is most likely to be passively looking for a new job?

Professionals and managers employed in the following areas: Law (67%); IT (59%);

Individuals aged between 20 and 40 (86%).

”IT professionals are not actively looking for jobs because it is the, jobs that are looking for

them’. The IT market is not only a so-called employees’ market. Most offers are directed at

individuals with 2 or 3 years, of seniority whose financial expectations grow very fast and

often equal those of employees with many more years of work experience. This, in turn,

affects the preferred type of employment – the number of IT professionals who choose

contract work increases each year.”

Job change among Polish professionals and managers

The average member of the professionals and managers group has changed jobs 4 times

throughout their lifetime. This is true for both men and women; professionals and managers.

22% of employees changed jobs 6 times or more. Only 4% of the respondents have never

changed jobs.

What were the reasons behind your last job change?

The possibility of multiple choice

Over a half of professionals and managers (58%) were motivated by the desire to gain new

competencies when deciding on a job change. One in three respondents wanted a better work

atmosphere (31%), and one if five respondents stated that the job change was due to the

expiration of their contract (20%).

It is worth nothing that company reputation is becoming an increasingly important factor for

polish employees – this is proven by the fact that many individuals decide on a job change

because other companies are more prestigious and have a better work atmosphere.

”Self-development opportunities defined as gaining new competencies remain the chief

motivating factor among individuals who are considering a job change. The growing number

of job offers leads to candidates considering job changes more carefully and taking into

account additional factors, such as salaries and commuting time. Intangible factors, such as

employer prestige and work atmosphere, have also gained in importance. The current

situation in the market is very challenging for companies that wish to take on not only the

best professionals and managers, but in fact any candidates who are willing to change their

jobs.”

Anna Piotrowska-Banasiak - Development Director

”Candidates increasingly often look beyond the criteria of salaries and responsibilities when

looking for a job. This is one of the reasons why employers should embrace every opportunity

to spread information about all aspects of their business and organisational culture. This

applies to products, technologies and projects that the organisation deals with, as well as

intangible elements, such as work atmosphere, culture and prestige.”

most likely to change jobs – 71% of respondents from this professional group declared to be

planning a job change in the next few months. Many individuals working in the Conventional

the best people working in Media and pr have a wide variety of highly developed hard and soft

skills. Experience gained through working in a PR agency, for example, teaches you a business

like approach and creative thinking which are indispensable in many positions. pr work is very

demanding and intense, but professionals who specialise in it have very broad opportunities in

the market and those who are ready to really commit to their careers may branch out into

many different industries and take a myriad of different positions. Therefore, professionals and

managers from this sector are most likely to change jobs (71%), but also are the most willing to

branch out into other sectors (68%).

”For the last few years, the financial sector has been an employer’s market, but this trend is

changing – the sector is becoming an employee’s market which is attested to by the data

contained in the Activity of Professionals and Managers in the labour market in Poland report.

64% of professionals and managers are planning to change jobs within the next few months.

Despite the ongoing consolidation, the market has grown in strength and employees are

feeling more secure which naturally encourages them to see what prospective employers have

on offer.”

What percentage salary increase would you expect when changing jobs?

”The results of this year’s edition of the Activity of professionals and managers in the labour

market in Poland report attest to the fact that salary increases are a major factor in

determining job change decisions. The highest number of respondents expect a 11%-30%

increase in salary (in relation to their current earnings); a 50% salary increase is expected by

only 4% of the respondents for whom the job change brings about a major change in their

standard of living. This may mean that professionals and managers consider salaries an

important factor, but take other variables that may influence their work satisfaction into

consideration when deciding on a job change. These variables may include the following

criteria: freedom to make decisions, a favourable organisational culture, being satisfied with

one’s work.”

Who is the most desired in the labour market?

An average professional and manager has received 8 job offers within the last year.

the average number of job offers received within the last year. Answers by sector:

it – 15finance – 8

Logistics – 10hr – 8

Engineering – 9 senior Management – 7

Sales and Marketing – 9 legal – 4

The demand for employees of a particular profile may be determined by examining how

many job offers were presented to the respondents within the last year. IT professionals and

managers are most desired by employers – they received an average of 15 recruitment offers

within the last year. Individuals employed in the Logistics sector came second – they received

an average of 10 job offers within last year. Engineers from the third group that currently is in

high demand – professionals and managers working in the sector declared to have received 9

job offers within the last year.

”IT professionals are in a very high demand, therefore they receive the highest number of job

offers. Programmers and SAP consultants are most desired which affects the overall yearly

average within the sector 15 job offers. Regardless of the high demand for IT professionals,

they are also easy to reach through social media, unlike lawyers or senior managers. Many of

them prefer contract work and decide to keep in touch with head hunters who provide them

with a steady stream of new jobs which eliminates downtime.”

Have you ever relocated because of work? ”In recent times, the mobility of professionals and managers has become one of the decisive

factors in their careers. Those who wish to relocate may take advantage of a broader range of

job offers, both in Poland and abroad. As in previous years, employees working in the

Construction and Energy sectors were most willing to move in search for work. Individuals

employed in the Tourism industry are, by definition, required to relocate frequently, therefore the

large percentage of respondents who claim to have moved due to work (more than once) is not

surprising.

The willingness to relocate is also high among individuals working for retail chains, shared

services centres and automotive companies.

It is practically non-existent among IT and Telecommunications employees – they may be willing

to move temporarily if a project that they are working on requires it. Relocations in the Transport and Freight Forwarding sector, in turn, apply mainly to senior managers.

Some time ago we noticed that individuals who are not willing to relocate within Poland are increasingly often ready to move abroad in search of work.”

over ¾ of the respondents stated that a higher salary is a must for them to decide on a job-

related relocation (77%). Almost half of the respondents stated that a relocation package is

necessary (47%). 37% of professionals and managers who took part in the study declared that

relocation is an option only in case of an attractive location where their spouse will easily find

a job.

Only one in five respondents were not interested in relocating (19%).

Among the additional factors that encourage candidates to relocate were:

- interesting new challenges at work

- friendly atmosphere

- favourable labour laws in the destination country

”This year’s survey results prove that the trend from last year remains – higher salaries and

financial relocation packages are the decisive factors when considering job offers that involve

relocation. What is more, these factors grow in importance with 77% of respondents

declaring higher salaries to be important in this year’s report compared to 27% last year. This

year’s report also included a new category – an attractive location outside of the city, but it

was chosen by so few respondents that it should not be considered a decisive factor but

rather a welcome bonus. It is evident, however, that the number of candidates who are

willing to consider relocation offers is increasing.”

When analysing the professional activity of managers and professionals it is important to take

into account whether they will be willing to change their job. changing one’s occupation has

been defined within this report as a complete change of the direction of professional

development involving the necessity of learning new competencies and often beginning a new

career at the bottom of a promotion ladder in a new sector.

sector (68%) are the most willing to change their profession. A similar percentage of mid

and senior level employees of Retail Chains (67%) and Transport, Freight Forwarding and

Logistics companies (66%) are also willing to do so.

”Professionals and managers working for Retail Chains are ready to change their profession for

a number of reasons. One of them is tied to the fact that job opportunities in the local markets

are limited and most positions in the sector are similar. Many individuals who work in the

sector are tired of fulfilling a similar set of duties regardless of their position and, therefore,

are looking to make a change. What is more, many former employees of Retail Chains are

successfully finding jobs in other sectors which makes changing professions increasingly

popular.

When it comes to Media and PR professionals and managers, their high willingness to change

professions results mainly from the inherent characteristics of the sector, which is among the

most volatile and dynamic, where one must keep constant track of the market and adjust

oneself to the ongoing changes. The volatility of the sector also makes it easy to drop out of

the market when some skill sets become less desired by employers. Professionals and

managers

are starting to look for new challenges and are open to change.”

JoAnnA kuziołA tEAM MAnAgEr

AntAl sAlEs & MArkEting

”The willingness to change professions among individuals working in the Transport, Freight

Forwarding and Logistics sector is caused, among other factors, by them wanting to try their

hand at doing other tasks (than they were required to do thus far), as well as learning new

skills and competencies. We must remember that a change of profession requires building a

new career path which often involves a downgrade of position and salary. Therefore, many

individuals decide to pass on changing professions because they are aware of the

consequences that such a decision would bring about.”

romAn zABłocki tEAM MAnAgEr

AntAl EnginEEring & opErAtions

Professionals and managers working for law firms were the least willing to change their line of

work – only 14% stated to be ready to change their profession. other sectors in which

employees are relatively unwilling to change their profession include: Conventional and

Renewable Energy (44%); Tourism (45%); Construction and Real Estate (48%); IT and

Telecommunications (57%).

”The low level of willingness to change professions among lawyers is mainly a result of the

effort that they invested in education and constant learning. However, if someone is young

and decides to change their profession in search of a more fitting lifestyle, then their legal

education and the experience gained while working in the sector may prove to be enormous

assets in the labour market. On the other hand, lawyers with more extensive experience, good

salary and a stable job are not willing to take the risk that a change of profession entails. What

is more, such individuals often do not see themselves working in any other job even when they

undergo an occupational burnout.”
