Explore the heart of the story by trying on characters and themes, and make your own fable through fun, interactive activities.

From a flutist who dances as a mechanical ballerina to a trombone that becomes a sword, join The Fourth Wall to explore how music, movement, and ordinary objects can set the stage for wordless wonder.

LETS SING A STORY! EXPLORING READING THROUGH ACTING AND SINGINGWITH INTERACT STORY THEATRE Backyard Theater Stage, 1:30pm In this workshop, kids sing, dance, and act out a story told in English and Spanish, and parents learn how to bring books to life using songs, toys, a sprinkle of imagination, and a touch of silliness.

SPICING UP YOUR STORIES WITH A DASH OF MUSICWITH BARBARA EFFRONBackyard Theater Stage, 2:30pm Recommended for ages 3 & upWhen you add music to a story, you get sugar, spice, and everything nice! Effron shares methods for incorporating singing, chanting, and instruments into stories. Together, youll create an original story from a simple childrens song.

RAINFOREST SOUNDSWITH CANTARBackyard Theater Stage, 3:30pm Recommended for ages 5 & upRecreate a rainforest scene with instrumentsmade from wood, seeds, pods, and more. Youll leave full of creative musical energy and ready to tell stories through song, movement, or words.

GIGGLING WIGGLING STORIESWITH SUZANNE RICHARDRoom 309, 12:45pm Discover new ways to tell stories by dancing like a lion and playing like a monkey. Then add the words back in to reveal how powerful your story is with a combination of music, dance, and spoken word.

RAPPING WITH STORIESWITH JAMAAL COLLIERRoom 309, 2:45pm Recommended for ages 5 & upTell a tale with a hip-hop twist! Collier engages and inspires youth creativity through performance art. As an avid student and fan of hip-hop, Collier utilizes rap and beatbox to appeal to a variety of learners.

EDUCATION GUIDEWith a theme of Off the Page, learning opportunities abound! Below are some ideas to encourage young readers throughout the event and after you go home. Choose a picture in the Mansion galleries with your child,

or look at a picture book together. Ask them to describe, draw, or write the story they see in the pictures. Where does the story in the picture take place? Who are the characters?

Ask your child to act, sing, dance, or draw a story they read. Read poetry with your child and allow them to build fluency

by clapping or tapping the rhythm. Have your child be the voices in the stories you are reading

with them. Create a journal with your child and have them fill it with

stories, poems, images, and collages. In the grocery store, ask your child to make up a story

about a character who loves to eat a particular food. Have your child draw, write, or verbally tell a story of a

character who lives in the state you are driving through. Sing along with the radio, and make up a new song to that

tune or about that subject, or finish the lyrics.
