The Department of Civil Engg., organized an AICTE sponsored short term course on

PROFESSIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING IN STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING from 4th to 16th

December 2017. This was a Quality Improvement Programme for faculty members of AICTE

approved Engg. Colleges. The course encompassed 7 days of lectures by eminent professors and

practicing structural engineers, and 4 days of hands on training on E-TABS software. The software

training sessions were handled by expert from CSI Engg. Software Pvt. Ltd., Banglore. The number

of participants was 30, of which 25 were external participants.

M. Tech. Thesis Contest 2017

The M. Tech. Thesis Contest 2017 was conducted on 07th July 2017 in the Seminar Hall of

Civil Engineering Department from 10.00 am onwards. The Department offers M. Tech. in

Transportation Engineering. Papers were presented in the fields of Transportation Planning,

Pavement Engineering, Traffic Engineering and Road Safety. Six participants were

shortlisted to contest in oral presentation category and remaining twelve students in poster

category. All papers were evaluated by expert panel in the department. Expert panel included

Dr. Reebu Zacharia Koshy, Professor in Civil Engineering, Sanintgits College of

Engineering, Pathamuttam and Dr. Gopakumar, Assoc. Prof., RIT, Kottayam.

The session started with the welcome speech by Dr. Bino I. Koshy, Professor,

Department of Civil Engineering. Dr Praveen A, Head of the Department addressed the

gathering.

Duration of time allotted for each candidate was 15 minutes for oral presentation followed by

5 minutes for answering questions. Oral presentations were done during 10.00 am to 1.00 pm.

The expert panel made a thorough evaluation of the presentations and gave their valuable

comments on each presentation. Dr. Bindhu B.K., PG Staff Advisor proposed vote of thanks.

The audience included 1st and 3rd semester and outgoing Transportation Engineering PG

students and faculty members of the Department. Eleven M. Tech. students presented their

work as posters and the expert panel evaluated poster presentations from 1.00 pm to 1:45 pm.

Poster presentation attracted viewers from both M. Tech and B. Tech students.
