Coahuila´s Municipalities: Ocampo
Ocampo is the largest municipality in Coahuila occupying 17.44% of the total state surface. In 1890, it broke away from Cuatrocienegas to form its own town. The inhabitants are dedicated to raising livestock in its pastures, “candelilla” wax production, and lead and silver mining. The town complements its economic activity with the production of peaches, apricots, figs, quince, and nuts, which are sold in large city markets as fresh products. Also, women in town make delicious traditional candies and marmalades (with the fruits mentioned above) plus goat and cow milk cheese.
Some attractions are: La Mota Park, where you can go swimming in very refreshing waters, San Jose de las Piedras, Sierra del Pino, Maderas del Carmen Protected Area, and Boquillas del Carmen (which borders with the USA Big Bend National Park in Texas).
Admire cave paintings, fossils, and a rich biodiversity made up of forests, sand and gypsum dunes; if you are lucky, you might spot some deers, bears, and wild boars. While you travel within the municipality, you will see roadrunners, hares, lizards, rattle snakes, desert owls, etc.
Hotel facilities can be found in the city of Cuatrocienegas (a 25 – 30 min. drive from the Ocampo town). This illustrious city is also a must when visiting our state!

Why Reduce, Reuse, Recycle?
GLASS can be recycled indefinitely.90 percent of recycled glass makes new glass containers.Recycling one glass bottle CONSERVES enough energy topower a computer for 30 minutes or a television for 20 minutes.
A ton of ALUMINUM cans made from recycledaluminum scrap takes 95 percent less energy than from raw material.Recycling one ton of aluminum cansCONSERVES 207 million BTU* which is equal to: 6,302.7 liters of gasoline 36 barrels of oil
PAPER is the largest percentage of materialin the waste stream, 35%.A ton of paper made from recycled fibersinstead of virgin fibers CONSERVES: 26,498 liters of water 17 - 31 trees 4,000 kWh of electricity 22.395 kilograms of air pollutants
* 1 BTU = 0.00029307 kWh
Waste less... Recycle more... Live well.
The best thing you can do for the environment is to rememberthe 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. If everyone doestheir part, we can all help keep the environment clean.

ACTIVIDAD 26
FossilsThe only direct way we have of learning about dinosaurs is by studying fossils. Fossils are parts of plants or animals that have turned to stone. Dinosaur bones are fossils. When a dinosaur died, the bones did not fall apart. They were covered with sand and mud. Layers of rock covered them for many years. People found the fossils, and scientists studied them. Scientists learned to tell how old dinosaurs were, when they died out, and what they ate.The name dinosaur means “terrible lizard”. Dinosaurs were reptiles and lived on Earth millions of years ago. We know about dinosaurs from fossils. All dinosaurs were cold-blooded and laid eggs. Some dinosaurs were enormous and others very small. The plant-eating dinosaurs walked slowly on all four legs. Some were covered with sharp spikes and plates to protect themselves from the meat-eating dinosaurs such as the Tyrannosaurus Rex, which had sharp teeth.
What are fossils?
