Member Sign By-LawCompliance Obligations

Street sign advertising can be an effective way to generate attention for an open house or to attract potential buyers to view a property for sale.

However, the consistent disregard of municipal sign by-laws

by some TREB Members has led some municipalities to consider banning open house and directional signs altogether.

Most recently, a Member plead guilty to four charges of erecting a sign on public property without a permit. Each charge carried with it a $100 fine.

To read more about your compliance obligations as well as to learn about TREB’s Sign By-Law Complaint process, please click here.

Best Practices:Stigmatized Properties In real estate, a “stigma” is a non-physical, intangible attribute of a property that may elicit a psychological or emotional response on the part of a potential buyer.

Whether you are representing the buyer or the seller in a real estate transaction, it is important to engage in best

practices regarding potential stigma to:

• Be fair and open with all parties in a real estate transaction

• Avoid a complaint, failed transaction or legal action

• Ensure you are representing the best interests of your clients.

Click here to learn more about what constitutes stigma and how to deal with it. Plus, there is a special section on how the new Cannabis Legislation applies to real estate and information on an upcoming Professional Development opportunity.
