Physics

Atoms are like the building blocks that make up everything around us, they make up the elements.

Carbon is a common element, all living things are ‘carbon-based’

Chemistry is the branch of science to do with what things are made of and how the react with each other

An element is made up of one kind of atom. Everything is made of different types of elements

An hypothesis is an idea or theory that explains how or why something is or behaves the way it does. It is then tested by experiment to see if it is true.

Particle are the smallest things in the universe, they make up atoms.

Physics is the science that studies the laws of the universe.

An experiment is when you test an idea (or hypothesis) to see if something is true or not.

Ecology is the science of how living things interact with each other

Evolution is how animals and plants have changed over many years to become new types of animals and plants

Biology is the branch of science to do with living things

Here are some more things you can try!

Look through the science presentation. Can you find a type of science that is similar to your favourite subject?

Start to do your own research. You can use books, the internet, and most importantly your teacher to find out more about science.

You can also find some more fun experiments to try at

This experiment is to test if Skittles of the same colour weigh the same. As you weigh the skittles, mark them down in the table below:

What can you find out from these results? Are all skittles of the same colour the same weight?

If a light object and a heavy one are dropped which do you think will hit the ground first?

Other than weight, what other differences are there between the two objects?

Try it! What happened?

Try it! What happened?

What happens if two things that are the same weight but different shapes are dropped at the same time?

What do you think will happen if the heavy and the light object are put in identical containers so they are the same shape but still different weights?

How can we prove this?

What happens after a few hours?

Why do you think this happens?

Medical observations are tests that doctors and nurses often perform to see how healthy a patient is. They look at how fast your heart is beating, how much air you get in your lungs and how hot or cold you are. These can be good signs to say how healthy or ill you may be.
