Achievement Through Technology

And INnovation

ATTAIN’s Purpose:

To ensure that through technology every student has access to individualized, rigorous, and relevant learning to prepare all students and America for the 21st Century.

To increase on-going, meaningful professional development around technology that leads to changes in teaching and curriculum, and which improves student achievement, including but not limited to core academic subjects, and student technology literacy.

To evaluate, build upon and increase the use of research-based and innovative systemic school reforms that center on the use of technology and lead to school improvement and increase student achievement.

Common Core

Assessment

Consortia Assessments: Online Delivery by 2014-15

Technology Readiness Tool3

Measuring Local Readiness

Readiness for online assessments has different dimensions:

1. Computers & other devices Minimum system requirements

2. Ratio of devices to test-takers Including testing window and session scheduling

3. Network and infrastructure Bandwidth, network utilization, size of content

4. Personnel (staffing & training)

Technology Readiness Tool4

Technology Readiness Tool

• Jointly issued by Smarter Balanced & PARCC, with SETDA as partner

• Pearson contracted to develop

• Consortia will provide tool to the states to deploy in six data collection windows between 2012 and 2014

• Will collect local data to determine technology readiness for online assessments, and provide gap analysis

• Data to support local/state/national planning for the transition to consortia assessment systems

Technology Readiness Tool5

Roles and Responsibilities

State Readiness Coordinators (SRCs)• Serve as primary point of contact for working with Pearson and the

consortia• Will be responsible for communicating to and training district/local

staff

Local Staff• Upload or enter data for each school• Communicate when they are “finished” with data entry for a

particular readiness assessment window

Depending on each state’s available data, role structure and level of desired control, some tasks may be completed by the SRC and/or by the local staff• Entering and maintaining organizational data• Entering and maintaining user accounts• Entering some device, test-taker, infrastructure, and personnel

data

Technology Readiness Tool7

Legend

AutoTool can automatically capture this information on the computer on which it is run (however data for this parameter may also be uploaded or entered manually).

SurveyThe data for this parameter can only be provided manually, either by uploading via a batch data import or by entering online in the space provided within the tool.

CalculationThe tool will calculate these values based on the data already entered by the user. No data entry is needed for these parameters.

Required Data for these parameters is required in order to report on readiness for online assessments.

OptionalData for these parameters is NOT required to report on readiness, but may be used to further assist in planning for a transition to common core assessments.

Note: User may clone the data if more than one computer has identical configurations

Demonstration of the Technology Readiness Tool

• Entering device, test-taker, infrastructure, and personnel data Can be entered at the state, district, or school level

Can be entered via auto-populate and survey or import

Partial data can be added

• Using Organizational Management and User Accounts and Permissions screens Expected to be used by district administrative users in

most cases for adding or editing organizations or user accounts one by one

Technology Readiness Tool8

Demonstration of the Technology Readiness Tool

• Batch File Importing and Exporting Organizational data, account data, and school readiness

data can be uploaded via files. Organizational and account files can be uploaded by state or district administrative users. School readiness data can be uploaded by all users.

District administrative users can add school organizational data and user accounts for school personnel.

• Viewing results Results for each dimension at the Consortia, State, District,

and School levels

Completeness report available at Consortia, State, and District levels to assist in follow-up

The following is demo showing the major user functions and tasks the Technology Readiness Tool supports.

ALL DATA ON THE FOLLOWING DEMONSTRATION IS NOT REAL DATA AND DOES NOT REPRESENT ACTUAL INPUTS OR RESULTS.

Training

Tentative Dates for Webinars:○May 8, 2012 at 2:00 pm○May 10, 2012 at 2:00 pm

Organizational Management Screens

Technology Readiness Tool12

SRCs and district_admin users may use this area of the tool to maintain organizations, although most initial setup is expected to be done by SRCs through uploading an Organizational file from the Batch File Import & Export screen. Users may enter the School Survey Questions area from this screen.

User Accounts and Permissions Screens

Technology Readiness Tool13

SRCs and district_admin users may use this area of the tool to add or maintain user accounts, although most initial setup is expected to be done by SRCs through uploading a User file from the Batch File Import & Export screen.

Device Inventory Management Screens

Technology Readiness Tool14

All users may use this area of the tool to add and maintain device inventory.

Device information also may be added through uploading a Devices file from the Batch File Import & Export screen.

Device Inventory Management Screens

Technology Readiness Tool15

The user may choose to indicate a count of the computers that have the same device specifications.

Devices may be entered by running the auto-populate functionality to collect the specifications of the computer on which it is run.

The user will complete adding a device by selecting the appropriate choices from drop-down menus.

Entering School Survey Data

Technology Readiness Tool16

All users will have access to complete readiness data entry by filling out the answers to the School Survey. Users will access this screen from the Organizational Management area. This information also can be imported by uploading a School Survey file from the Batch File Import & Export screen.

Batch File Importing and Exporting

Technology Readiness Tool17

All users will have access to this page for loading files. SRCs and district_admin users will be able to load Organizational and User Account files. All users may load Devices and School Survey files.

Viewing Results

Technology Readiness Tool18

Results will be available at the school, district, state, and consortium levels for each dimension.

Completion Status results will be available at the district, state, and consortium levels.
