How to Get CertifiedAre You Extraordinary?

Conduct an Employee Engagement Survey

The Aon Best Employers certification uses the most objective measure possible: an employee opinion. You will work with Aon culture and engagement survey experts to conduct an employee engagement survey.

Requirements for Aon Best Employers Survey:

• Include the Aon Best Employer 24 items and required demographics

• Include a representative sample of employees:

• Margin of error less than or equal to +/-5% based on your response rate and the size of your population

with a 95% confidence level

• Must survey employees from all parts of the organization (e.g. all business units, locations, offices)

• Minimum sampling criteria is applied at the country, regional and global levels

Our research shows that Aon Best Employers are surpassing other organizations on four measurable factors: engagement, agility, engaging leadership and talent focus. By including these 24 items in your survey, we can calculate indices for your organization on each of these important factors and compare you to our robust database.

Aon Will Analyse Your Results by Country/Market, Regional or Globally

To be recognized as an Aon Best Employer your organization must be top quartile for engagement as well as top quartile for 2 out of 3 of the other indices1.

3 levels of certification:

1) Thresholds are based on Aon’s country/market/region /global benchmark data. 2) At least 50 employees in each of the countries/markets in the region(s). Aon reserves the right to consider other factors in assessing eligibility.

• You can decide when you want to announce your Aon Best Employers certification internally and externally

• Aon will provide a toolkit to help you get recognized including:

• An Aon Best Employer stamp in various formats for each accredited (entity) or (location)

• A certificate for each accredited (entity) or (location)

• An official communication toolkit to help you make the most of the recognition both internally and externally (e.g. press release template, guidelines for using the Aon Best Employers logo, suggestions for communication activities for both internal and external audiences)

• Aon’s Best Employers website will be updated quarterly with the list of awarded organizations

• Aon will host local awards ceremonies or other events in specific countries/markets

• If you learn that you are not yet an Aon Best Employer, you can use the detailed employee engagement survey results and the Aon Best Employers Index report to identify key priorities and strategies for taking action.

How does Aon determine the thresholds?

Aon sets the top quartile thresholds for the four indices annually, using data from its global employee research database. Benchmarks are established for individual countries/markets and regions, ensuring that the Aon Best Employers Program has a globally consistent methodology.

What does it mean for countries/markets that have been certified as an Aon Best Employer?

Being certified as an Aon Best Employer means a country/market achieved outstanding results: your employees’ responses rated you among the top organizations in the four areas used for evaluation: employee engagement, agility, engaging leadership and talent focus.

When can your certification be announced?

You decide! Once you learn about your country/market, region, and/or global certification, you can decide when you want to announce this both internally and externally. Aon’s website will be updated quarterly and accredited organizations are also encouraged to leverage Aon Best Employers’ communications toolkit to publicize the achievement. Aon will also host local awards ceremonies or other events in specific countries/markets.

What is Aon’s recommendation for leveraging the recognition?

Our experience shows that active communication related to Aon Best Employers certification can positively influence not only employee morale, but also organization’s reputation with customers, investors and potential employees. Aon will provide an official communication toolkit to assist with ideas to communicate both internally and externally.

In the toolkit we outline the correct use of the Aon Best Employers stamp, and provide suggestions on resources for communication activities for both internal and external audiences.

What is the effective period of the Aon Best Employers Program recognition?

Aon will provide a dated stamp with the year identified. Aon Best Employers can use this graphic for as long as they want – keeping in mind that the recognition will naturally lose value over time. Aon will regularly update its website to reflect the latest Aon Best Employers. We recommend that your organization participate regularly to renew your Aon Best Employer certification.

How can successful countries/markets maintain their Aon Best Employers status?

We recommend that each country/market that has achieved the Aon Best Employers certification review its employee opinion data to:

• Identify the Aon Best Employers indices (engagement, agility, engaging leadership and talent) that scored in the top quartile thresholds and identify the practices that you believe positively impacted employee perception of these pillars. These are the strengths on which the country/market should sustain efforts.

• Take suggestions from your employees (through focus group discussions) on what improvement actions your country/market can take.

• Conduct action planning session(s) with your country/market leadership/stakeholders (playing back the insights from above) to plan actions for addressing areas for improvement.

What does it mean if I am not certified as an Aon Best Employer?

When a country/market, region or global population is not certified as an Aon Best Employer, it means your employees’ responses did not rate you highly enough in the four areas used in the evaluation process: employee engagement, agility, engaging leadership and talent focus. In other words, your country/market, region or global population rated lower than the top quartile organizations in Aon’s database.

How can we identify areas for improvement?

Aon will provide participating organizations with valuable, insightful and actionable data to identify areas for improvement including: an Aon Best Employers Index report that allows you to compare your scores on the four indices to the country/market, region or global scores and detailed online reporting from the Employee Engagement Survey to help identify key segments or dimensions of the work environment to improve employee engagement.

Is there a rule that organizations can’t be in the bottom quartile for any of the indices?

We removed this requirement since it is statistically improbable if the other criteria have been met (top quartile for engagement and top quartile for two out of the other three indices). This decision was based on a statistical analysis of more than one hundred organizations (where none of the organizations who met the criteria had index scores in the bottom quartile). We also ran correlations to confirm the statistical improbability.

Are the names of non-recognized countries/markets included in Aon’s announcements?

Participation in the program is strictly confidential. Only regions/markets in a participating organization that achieved Aon Best Employers certification will be mentioned publicly (on our website for all recognized companies, and via other means through relevant regional and country/market programs).

Can countries/markets that did not qualify use the certification achieved by other countries/markets?

The Aon Best Employers Program follows rigorous evaluation criteria before providing country/market, region or global certification. Aon will provide a graphic that is dated (with the year of the certification) and includes the country/market name. Best Employers can use this graphic as they wish – keeping in mind that the graphic will identify the country/market so it won’t be relevant where certification is not achieved.

Will Aon be conducting additional research on Aon Best Employers?

We will be running analysis to compare the Aon Best Employers to other organizations in our database to provide additional research and human capital insights. As such, we may reach out to organizations certified as Aon Best Employers for additional (voluntary) information on an as-needed basis.
