Soup Kitchen, Ocober 11, 2011 How did I correlate Stage 1 (choosing to volunteer at the Soup Kitchen) into my JAG standards? Parliamentary Procedure training Proposals/Presentation Stage 2: Organization Instruction takes place when students organize the SLP. Use lesson plans to teach the standards that will be needed in the planning of the SLP Lets practice. How did I the students organization of the SLP correlate to JAGs Career Readiness standards? Telephone Technique Prioritize Goals Basic Computer Operationsing Stage 2: Organization How might you correlate one or more of your subjects curriculum standards to the organizing stage of the SLP? Stage 3: Perfoming Standards are met when the SLP is being performed. Lets practice by looking at what took place during the performance of our most recent SLP, volunteering at the Soup Kitchen. How did I correlate my students performance to JAG career related standards? The Second Presbyterian Soup Kitchen Experience How many of you have seen someone down and you wanted to help them but you did not know what you could do to help them? I have and sometimes I could help and sometimes all I could do is pray. You see I had an awesome time at the soup kitchen and it was a great success. When I arrived I thought to myself this was gone be a long day. After people started coming in at 12:30, everything was going great. When those little kids walked through the door it just made me want to cry and they really touched my heart. When I spoke to them or gave them some clothes they smiled and that really touched my heart as well. There was this one little boy who was crying because his grandma had left him for a minute to go get something to eat. As he cried I started to feel bad. As I started to feel bad I just started walking towards him and he backed up. I did not know what was wrong so I waited until his grandma came back to talk to him. When his grandma came back I asked her what is wrong with him and she said he did not know me so he felt uncomfortable. He really touched my heart and I bet if you were in my place it would touch your heart too. When the grown people walked in they also touched my heart. There was this one man that made me really think about my life. When I saw him I wanted to break down and cry but I had to keep going and accomplish my goals. You see he was really down when he came in that soup kitchen but when he left he had a smile on his face and that felt really good to witness. I realize now that when we cry, whine, or get mad at our parents when we cannot get what we want, we are just being ungrateful. Those people who were at the soup kitchen were sad because they could not get what they needed. The things they want are really the things they need. This made me think about how good we have it. We have it better than we think. When I got home Tuesday afternoon I cried. Now I know that I will have to be more appreciative for what I have because those people wish they could have what we have. I had a great time and I am glad I went because it was a very good experience. Now I see how the homeless really feel and what they really look like when they need food or do not have a place to lay their heads at night. We got to be thankful for what God has done for us and what he is going to do for us. Even though the people who were at the soup kitchen did not have much, they still said God Bless. They are happy to wake up to see the sun shine or the rain come down. I really want to help change peoples lives. One day when I get a chance I will call the soup kitchen and I will ask if I can volunteer again and I encourage you to do the same. By: Raven Moore My Experience from the 2 nd Presbyterian Church Soup Kitchen Have you ever heard of the song by the Rolling Stones, You cant always get what you want? If not, then you should look it up online and listen. You might not understand it unless you have had an experience where you wanted something really bad but could not get it because either you could not afford it or your parents did not have the money. I have been in this position all my life, and there were so many things that I have wanted but could never have. The Rolling Stone lyric goes You cant always get what you want but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need. When My JAG class went to the soup kitchen I saw firsthand what this song really meant in the world. These people needed our help and needed the soup kitchen so much. That is why I was so thankful that I was given the opportunity to go to the soup kitchen and serve these people what they needed. I was working in the soup kitchen serving cornbread. Everyone that I gave a piece to thanked me and smiled from ear to ear, and it just made so much of a difference in both of our lives. It changed me because it made me feel so good inside. It helped them because now they will not go hungry or their kids wont starve. Some people have the perfect life and dont know how it feels to not know whether you will make it through the day. I believe people should take their time to go to the soup kitchen and help out because in the end it will make everyone appreciate the little things in life more.
