Today’s Goals
Enrollment Management and Student Affairs
1. You may have struggled with High School
2. You may have low SAT scores
3. You may have raw ability but are not motivated.
4. You may not have done your best in high school.
5. You may struggle with studying or test taking skills.
Acknowledging why you are here…
Enrollment Management and Student Affairs
The Reality• This will be HARD WORK.
• But all of you have the ability to be successful!
• Some will fail!• Students who choose not to go to class, study halls
and seminars will not make grades…
• It costs you $$$.• It is NOT going to be like HIGH SCHOOL.• The goal is not to get the minimum 2.0,
it is to get a 4.0 and set your self up!
Acknowledging why you are here…
Enrollment Management and Student Affairs
All new students are nervous about fitting in and worried about whether they will succeed.
• Nervousness about college level work• It is different than HS!
• Managing coursework on your own• Parents and others won’t be able to manage your coursework like HS. Professors won’t
remind you like HS teachers.
• What about failing?• Many HS use a model where you can retake failed tests/assignments. College is not like
that… but we have many more resources that students are able to use.
• It all comes down to asking for help and actively managing your own education.• ASP/EOP will help provide the frame to assist you in your transition from HS to
College. You will still do the work and you will still need to ask questions and be organized.
Identifying Common Fears

Enrollment Management and Student Affairs
• You will be enrolled in the program for one academic year (2020-21).• If you earn a 3.0 GPA during the fall semester, you may opt of the program for
the spring semester (you may also choose to remain in the program).
• You must attend all scheduled classes, study sessions and tutorials.• Students will choose 8 hours per week from the Fall Study Hall schedule
• As a requirement of ASP, the University expects students to earn at minimum 2.0 GPA at the end of the fall semester. Students who do not meet a 2.0 GPA will have their enrollment reviewed at that time.
• You must sign and follow The Learning and Behavior Contract for ASP (next two slides).
Requirements and Expectations
Enrollment Management and Student Affairs
• I recognize that the faculty and staff of the Lock Haven University will challenge me learn about my subject matters as well as about myself.
• I agree to fulfill all academic requirements.• I understand that the work load I will be given will be of high demand and that I am expected to
return high quality work.• agree to engage and participate fully in all of my courses (this means that I will sit in the front of
the classroom in order to be more involved).• I will attend ALL classes.• I will be at least 10 minutes early for each of my classes.• I will remain in each class the FULL duration of scheduled time.• I will attend ALL study halls and required seminars, sessions and meetings.• I understand that cell phone (and other electronic device) use is distracting and I will refrain from
using those devices during class, study hall or seminars. Phones will be off (not vibrate or silent – powered down) during class, study halls, seminars and meetings.
• I will get an appropriate amount of sleep each night before class.• I will personally meet with the professor from each of my classes during their office hours and
introduce myself.• I will meet with my study hall mentor once a week to discuss my progress, problems and
concerns that I may have.
Learning Expectations
Enrollment Management and Student Affairs
• I agree to conduct myself in an appropriate manner and follow the code of conduct outlined in the LHU Student Handbook.
• I will treat staff and students in a respectful manner and I will follow staff directions in a cooperative manner at all times.
• I will not interfere with other students’ right to learn.• I will demonstrate appropriate behavior and use only
appropriate language while I am involved in ASP activities.• I will refrain from placing myself in a situation where I will be
tempted to use drugs or alcohol.• I will attend ALL required activities.
Conduct Expectations
Enrollment Management and Student Affairs
• You’ll need to participate in scheduled:• Study hall hours (8 hours weekly) • Seminars (1 every week/every other week)
• A 2.000 GPA is the minimum.• A 3.000 GPA allows the student to exit.• A 4.000 GPA is the goal.
• Attendance and Studying are the keys.
• We know students who participate fully are successful and students who don’t are not.
