6. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES

A. Curriculum Committee – Myshel Pimentel Next meeting Thursday, May 18 with Curriculum and catalog demonstration by eLumen. Anyone interested can stop by. Credit-by-Exam and 2+2 lists will be on agenda for approval. Beginning next year, the two lists will be separated with Credit-by-exam approved in May and 2+2 in December. Title 5 changes done in early fall.

B. IPRSLOAC – Edward Modafferi

Next meeting Friday, May 19 at 2 p.m. The eLumen assessment software implementation during summer with training in the Fall. Course assessment close to 100 percent complete. Edward reminded that SLO assessment demonstrates knowledge, skill, or ability. Program Reviews are due the first Friday in September.

C. FLEX – Gabriel Cuarenta-Gallegos and Mai Meidinger

Part-time, 81 forms have been completed in Fall and 50 processed so far for spring. Total for the year is over 130. Final due date June 30. Fall workshops have been finalized with 24 total workshops on Thursday, August 10. Student Success symposium is confirmed for Wednesday, August 9. The FLEX workshop brochure to be sent out soon. Full-time, 150 forms have been processed. Email sent out this week regarding missing documentation. Reminder that the FLEX coordinators are ONLY in charge of FLEX workshop sign-in sheets for FLEX documentation purposes.

D. Student Success – Carl Estrella

Campus-wide printing system in final stages of approval. Students will have a single print card to be used at designated printing areas. Highest usage for Smart Thinking is 9 p.m., 10 p.m., and 8 a.m. in Writing, Math, and Science. Biology students commented that Smart Thinking was not useful. BSSOT is underway. May 12 deadline to sign up for training. Email sent to sign up to assist students in the Interdisciplinary Literacy Center. Summer Bridge Program for high school students is currently full at 30 students June 12-22 (M-Th) 8-12. This will include First-Year Experience, EOPS, field trips to UC Merced and possibly a CSU, as well as meal vouchers. Fall 2017 symposium speaker, Tia McNair, confirmed. Tomasia plans to create a handbook for training tutors. Cram Night May 15-19. The Library will be open until 11 p.m. There will be coffee and snacks available. ASMC Open House SU-107, May 12. Teacher of the Year voting is happening this week in the Quad.

7. SENATE PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Julie Clark Presentation of the Part-Time Faculty of the Year at the Board meeting. Next Board meetings: June 6 at 5 p.m. and July 11 at 2 p.m. Meetings resume the second Tuesday beginning August 8 at 5 p.m. Starting in April, the Board does not return from the 5 p.m. Closed Session until they are completely done. College Council approved the AP on CEO hiring. It will go to the Board for first reading in June and second in July. The Course Substitution will also go to the Board at the June and July meetings with the changes that SSMPC and IMPC suggested. Academic Freedom will go to College Council and then to the Board. There is a special College Council / EMPC meeting May 22 to review the changes to the Branding Initiative. If approved, it will go to the Board in June.

G. Resolution 8-17 Academic Senate Bylaws Annual Update and Revisions – Julie Clark

Julie reviewed corrections and changes. There was discussion regarding hiring committees. Concerns were voiced about faculty not keeping the hiring committee membership and process confidential. Suggestion of keeping a consistent process among all constituencies.

9. NEW BUSINESS A. Information: FAAS Survey Results – Julie Clark

Julie shared the results with the Senators. Good responses overall. There were 128 full-time responses, which is 71.11-percent of full-time faculty. There were 99 part-time responses, which is 28.13-percent of part-time faculty. Julie and Patrick will meet to edit the comments and send to the faculty then it goes to the Board in June.

B. Discussion: proposed New Merced College Mission Statement – Julie Clark

There was some discussion and questions answered. A couple senators don’t like the “growing” part and recommended “enriching” or “supporting” as better alternatives.

C. Information: IEPI Indicators – Baba Adam

Simple basic averages used to determine 1-year and 6-year goals. Edward commented that ARC did not have input in the IEPI indicators.

10. PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Chris Vitelli

No Report.

11. STUDENT’S REPORT – Mariah Gill ASMC Open House Grand Opening 11-12 Friday May 12. They are accepting donations for their food pantry. Several students went to General Assembly voting on 80-100 resolutions and participated in workshops on resolution composition, political activism, equitable practices, and caucusing special interest group meetings.

Elections: Cody Camacho as President, Mariah Gill is Student Trustee, Alexis Lemas is Executive VP, and Demaris Sea is Area 5 Senator.

12. ANNOUNCEMENTS and OPEN FORUM A. Announcements

Dee Near announced Cram Night, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. in the Library. Kitty Cazares announced RN graduation on Monday, May 22 in the Theater. There are 28 graduates. LVN graduation is Tuesday, May 23. CNA graduation Thursday, May 25.

B. Call for agenda items on the next agenda Thursday, August 23, 2017.

Items are due Wednesday, August 15, 2017 by 5:00 p.m.
