Extra-Curricular Activities

Spell Bee Examination was con-

ducted on 04.10.18. Students from

Std I - VI took the preliminary exam.

40 students got selected for the sec-

ond level.

Nithya Sri. S of std V presented her arti-cle for the ‘The Hindu -Young World- Guest Editor programme on 06.10.18

English Olympiad was conducted

on 11.10.18

Students of std V & VI participated in the National Level Painting Competition on Energy Conservation on 17.10.18.

Students participated in the Vigilance Awareness week -2018 -A State Level drawing competition conducted by NLC in association with The Hindu on 22.10.18

Nine students from Std-VI attended a

two-day robotics workshop ‘Technoxian

Championship’18 on 26.10.18

&27.10.18. The workshop was conduct-

ed by Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute

of Science & Technology. The students

were awarded certificates for the same.

Group Activities

Inauguration of Scouts & Guides, Na-tional Green Corps and RSP (Road Safety Patrol on 16.10.18

In order to promote discipline, confi-dence and fitness through engaging out-door activities Scouts & Guides, NGC, RSP, and Cubs& Bulbuls were formally inaugurated by Mrs. Sheela Ra-jeswari., BT Asst. Sekkizhar GBHSS, Kundrathur on 16.10.18.

The chief guest being an advanced Scout master unveiled the boards on the school premises and encouraged children to take

part actively in Scouting as it is fun with a purpose and key to character building where children can embrace adventure and can imbibe a sense of social responsibility.

English appreciation badges were pinned by the Chief Guest during the programme.

Meet the Scientist

Meet the scientist event was conducted on 17.10.18. Students of std V &VI attended the programme. Mr. N. Ganapathy,

M.Sc,. M.A., M.Phil ,retired PGT (Physics) ,MCC School, was the resource person.

During the interactive session, children were introduced to the concepts of sound waves. The session kindled the scientific

spirit in the students.

International Elderly Day was

observed on 08.10.18.

The special assembly that was conducted

for the event focused on the responsibili-

ties of the young children towards

their lives. Children presented speeches

and encouraged their peers to make the

life of elderly people better and happy by

analyzing all the problems affecting the

life of older people.

They took a pledge to make India free of

Old Age Homes.

World Postal Day was observed on

09.10.18.

A special assembly was organized to high-

light the importance of postal services

around the world and to raise awareness of

their contributions to the rural India and the

global economy.

Children spoke about the uses of enve-

lopes, stamps and other postal products in

their speech.

Students of std VI were taken on a

site visit to Mambakkam Post Office.

The Post Master Mr. Rajendran

showed them around and enlightened

the children of the process involved in

sorting letters.

World Sight Day was observed

on 11.10.18.

Students presented a skit ‘Take care of

your eyes.’ The skit was literally an eye

-opener as it made the students realize

how youngsters misuse their eyes and

lose their vision.

A speech was presented on the topic ‘How to

take care of your eyes’.

Children pledged to promote ‘Eye Donation’

through posters and placards.

World Disaster Day was observed on

12.10.18

The day was observed to promote a culture of

risk-awareness and disaster reduction which

included disaster prevention, mitigation and

preparedness. Children encouraged their class-

mates to participate in disaster risk reduction

and decision making through speeches about

natural disasters.

National Students’ Day was celebrat-

ed on 15.10.18

People’s President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s

birthday was celebrated as Students’ Day. The

celebration was

marked by a special assembly that was

conducted in his honour. Famous quotes

by Dr.Kalam were read out. Students re-

called his early childhood, his journey to-

wards science and his contribution to In-

dia as a President.

Videos of his Speeches were played in all

classes for the benefit of the children.

World Ozone day was observed on

15.10.18

Students of std IV presented a short

speech to raise awareness on the harmful

effects of UV rays and the benefits of

ozone in the atmosphere.

World Tourism Day was observed

on 17.10.18.

Students of std IV talked about tourism and

seven wonders of the world. The purpose

of the celebration was to foster awareness

among the student community of the im-

portance of tourism and its social, cultural,

political and economic value and how it

could contribute to the economy of our

country. Images of the seven wonders were

displayed to draw the students’ attention to

the architectural marvel of mankind.

World Food Day was observed on

17.10.18 to promote awareness about those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure food security and nutritious diets for all. Children realized the need to act so that In-dia can achieve ‘Zero Hunger’ and prom-ised to avoid wasting food.

World Literacy Day was celebrated

on 22.10.18

In the special assembly conducted chil-

dren highlighted approaches that can sup-port the development of literacy and skills, to ultimately improve people’s life and work and contribute to equitable and

sustainable society.

Along with the Literacy Day’ Girl Child

Day was also celebrated. Girl students took a vow to educate themselves and en-courage other girls in the neighbourhood

to attend school.

World Heart Day was observed on

25.10.18.

A special assembly was conducted to

mark the day. Children were taught about

the importance of Heart Health. They

were advised to cook and eat healthy food.

Hindi Diwas was celebrated on 25.10.18.

The popularity of Hindi as an official language

of India and the beauty of the language was

highlighted during the assembly session. Stu-

dents presented a skit in Hindi on the topic

‘Benefits of vegetables’.

served on 29.10.18.

Students shared information on world standard

day with their peers during the assembly.

Sardar Vallabhai Patel’s Birth-

day was celebrated on 30.10.18.

Children presented speeches in English and

Tamil about the ‘Iron man of India’ Sardar

Patel and his contribution in unifying India.

Students were given information about the

Statue of Unity- the tallest statue in the

world that was unveiled in Gujarat.

Fire Safety Drill

A mock drill on fire safety was conducted for

the students of std V & VI on 24.10.18. The

drill was arranged to equip the students to act

and react in a judicious way during fire acci-

dents and emergencies.

Youth Parliament

Monthly meeting of the Youth Parliament lead-

ers was convened on 30.10.18. Leaders pre-

sented their observation reports on their as-

signed duties during to the parliament.

Out-reach Programme

Mrs. G. Subashini, Dept. of Computer

Science visited the Panchayat Union Pri-

mary School, Sonalur on 25.10.18 as part of

the out-reach programme and taught the ba-

sics of Computer.

Joy of giving

Students from Std V went to ‘Anbagam’ an

orphanage near Kolathur on 29.10.18.

They shared the joy of festival by contrib-

uting dresses, toiletries, cereals &pulses

etc., which were collected from the students

of std I-VI. Children realized a small ges-

ture from their side like spending time and

contributing the essential supplies with the

elderly inmates and kids could bring happi-

ness to the underprivileged people. This in-

stilled a sense of responsibility towards the

society and also made them count their

blessings.

Health-Education -Programme

A special programme was conducted for the

students of Std V& VI on 31.10.18 to raise

awareness on personal hygiene.

Resource persons from ‘Bella- Hygiene Prod-

ucts’ enlightened the girl children on Menstru-

al Cycle and Personal hygiene.

A power point presentation and videos were

shown to the boys to take care of their physi-

cal and emotional well-being.

Field Trip

Students of Std I, II & III were a taken on a

Field trip to Guindy & Snake Park on

12.10.18.

Children enjoyed the day thoroughly and

were happy to see and learn about the ani-

mals and snakes.

Composition and Writing Skills-

Mrs. P.B. Kavitha &Mrs. M. Kavitha, Dept. of English attended the programme organised by SHARPEN.

on 13.10.18. The resource person was Dr. Deepesh, Language and Linguistic expert

from Orient Blackswann.

Vaishnavi , Dept. of Maths attended Maths

seminar conducted by SHARPEN on

27.10.18.

Staff Enrichment Programme was organized on

29.10.18.

Raghunathan, Dept. of Tamil and Mrs. Padma

Vaishnavi. Dept. of Maths shared their learning

from the seminar attended with the teachers.
