Mission: AOSR prepares tomorrow's global leaders to
meet the challenges of our changing world with courage
and integrity.
Who we are: The American Overseas School of Rome is
a vibrant, open-minded, and caring community from the
United States, Italy, and more than fifty countries across
the globe. AOSR is proud of its rich Italian heritage and
many languages and cultures. We educate our students in
pre-kindergarten through grade 12 to continue their
studies wherever their travels lead them. Our students are
well-prepared to gain admission to universities in the
United States, United Kingdom, Italy, and beyond. The
school is located north of the historic center of Rome on a
beautiful 7-acre campus.
Enrollment: Six hundred students from over fifty nations
are enrolled (Pre-K to 12 & PG); US (27%) and Italian
(35%) represent the two largest groups in our high school.
We have 200 students and a full and part-time faculty of 40
in grades 9-12, with 48 seniors in the Class of 2015.
Instructional Program: AOSR’s instructional program
prepares students for higher education in the United
States, United Kingdom, Italy and throughout the world. A
minimum of twenty-two full-year credits are required for
graduation including:

Math, Science, Social Studies, Languages
(One 4 credit, two 3 credit & one 2 credit sequences)
Fine Arts (1) PE /Health (1) Electives (4)
Special Requirements (Italian V for Italian citizens, US
History for US citizens)
Grading, Ranking and GPA Distribution: AOSR uses
a 4.0 grading system. Grades earned at other schools are
not included in the calculation of the AOSR GPA. Due to
the high mobility of our student population, we do not
rank students. The following charts show the grading scale
and GPA of the classes of 2014 and 2015, through grade
11.

Advanced Placement (AP): AOSR offers up to 17
Advanced Placement courses. Some courses are not
offered every year. All students are encouraged to
challenge themselves with advanced course work. In
2014-15, AOSR is offering AP classes in the following
areas: Calculus AB & BC, Physics I & II, Chemistry,
Biology, English Literature & Composition, US History,
European History, Comparative Government, Economics
(Micro & Macro), Psychology, Art History, French,
Spanish, and Italian.

International Baccalaureate (IB): Students apply for
the two-year IB program in grade 10. In 2014, 22
students took 99 IB examinations and eleven out of
twelve seniors earned the IB diploma. Average points
obtained by candidates who passed the diploma: 32.
Highest diploma points awarded to a candidate: 41.
Average grade: 5.
SAT Results 2014: The SAT I is taken by students
intending to study at universities in the United States,
Canada and in some cases, UK. In 2014, 74% of our 54
graduates took the SAT I during their high school careers,
achieving scores that far surpassed the mean for all
graduating seniors according to the SAT 2014 College-
Bound Seniors report.
Co-curricular: AOSR participates in the American
Schools in Italy League (ASIL) with varsity competition
among international and DoDDS schools throughout
Italy. Teams for boys and girls include basketball, cross-
country, soccer, tennis, volleyball, cheerleading,
wrestling and track & field. AOSR also supports
programs in the performing arts, student publications,
community service, Model UN, Student Council, Global
Issues Network, Habitat for Humanity and the National,
French, Italian and Spanish Honor Societies.
