Issues

Students not taking full advantage of school-based credit recovery

Amount of money spent to pay extended time salaries to teachers far exceeds the number of credit hours students are earning during after-school credit recovery.

Current cost per credit hour exceeds 250.00 As of May 4, 2010, $106,567.99 has been paid as

supplemental salaries to current contract teachers. Students lack motivation to complete online courses.

Proposal

Blending of both credit recovery and virtual high school programs. New program to be called the CAP (Credit Advancement Program) Eliminate school-based after school credit recovery. Eliminate after-school bus routes. Create regional CAP centers across the district. Purchase Plato Learning Network V 2.0 which would eliminate credit

recovery courses as a result of the prescriptive feature of the software. Charge students a one-time fee of $50 which would represent a student’s

pledge to complete academic courses within the given school year. Provide students with COTA bus passes to be used for transporting them to

and from the Regional Cap Center of their choice. Course credit will be awarded using the current district grading scale. Quarterly progress notifications will be sent to parents of participants.
