ABSTRACT
This study dealt with the characterization of the properties of a crumbed rubber
mortar filled composite wall panel with fibrocement board and steel furrings. Properties of
wall panel containing crumbed rubber mortar filled such as flexural strength, sound
insulation and fire resistance were determined.
` Three mix designs of varying amount of crumbed rubber as fine aggregate
replacement were prepared and tested. Unit weight, specific gravity, absorption of cement,
sand and crumbed rubber and compressive and flexural strength of the crumbed rubber
mortar mix had been verified after 7 and 28 days curing period. The mix design that
governed after testing of the specimens is the one with 10% replacement. The governing mix
had a maximum compressive strength of 14.191 MPa and a maximum flexural strength of
5.315 MPa, both passing the ASTM standard for the strength of mortar.
The wall panel was composed of a steel frame covered with fibrocement board to
serve as the exterior of the wall panel. The governing mix was poured inside the system to
act as the filler of the wall panel. The composite wall panel was subjected to performance
tests such as flexural test, sound test and fire resistance test. The composite wall panel
obtained a modulus of rupture equivalent to 3.852 MPa. It obtained an average sound
reduction of 34.877 dB and a fire rating of 2 hours as observed from the performance tests.
From the given results and statistical analysis using T-test, it was concluded that
addition of crumbed rubber as fine aggregate replacement in composite wall panel has
improved the sound insulating properties and it has maintained its efficiency in terms of its
fire resistance.
