The Istituto Scolastico S.Carlo was born in 1992
as aeronautical high school and it has a
decades-long experience in basic training for
pilots, air traffic controllers and aircraft
maintenance technicians.
The on-going evolution of the aeronautical
market has led to the need to have new
specialized figures in this field. For that reason
the Institute “S. Carlo” has started the iter for
the recognition as Aircraft Maintenance
Training Organisation according to Annex IV
(Part-147) EU Regulation nr. 1321/2014 and,
finally, it got the Certificate IT.147. 0015 by the
Italian Authority, ENAC.
The Istituto Scolastico S.Carlo offers a wide
range of other training courses and services,
accurately tailored to the needs of individuals,
as well as of aviation Companies. Our offer
includes different solutions:
A) Classroom Basic Training Course for Cat.

What is an Aircraft Maintenance Licence?
According to Regulation (EU) 1321/2014 all staff authorized
to certify maintenance on aircraft (Certifying Staff) and
working for Aeronautical Maintenance Organisation is
asked to get the Aircraft Maintenance Licence (AML)
according to Annex III (Part 66) of the Regulation.
The Licence is issued by the Competent Authority (in Italy
ENAC - Ente Nazionale per l’Aviazione Civile) and is valid in all the EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency)Member
States.
Who is an Aircraft Maintenance Technician?
The Aircraft Maintenance Technician is a high qualified
professional employee who can issue the certificate of
release to service after completing all the maintenance
tasks. The technician must guarantee a high level of
efficiency on aircraft performing all checks, inspections,
replacement and repairs of damages find on the
aircraft, eliminating all technical faults detected before,
during or after the flight.
What are the job opportunity for Aircraft Maintenance
Technicians?
ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) recently
hosted a five-day event to face up to the challenge of the
shortage expected in the near future for skilled professionals
in the aviation field.
At the meeting were invitated representatives
of the Member States, industry and training institutions and
together defined and quantified the problem , proposed
approaches to solve it and outlined the leadership role of
ICAO in gene rating cooperation among concerned
stakeholders towards reaching and implementing solutions.
In the next 20 years, airlines will introduce 25,000 new
aircraft to the current of 17,000-strong commercial fleet;
within 2026, the air operators will need more than 480.000
new technicians to guarantee the efficiency of these
aircraft.
Aircraft Maintenance Licence (AML)
Basic Training Course
Objectives of a Basic Training Course The basic training courses are aimed at the release of the
"Certificate of Recognition" testifying the successful
completion of the course cat. B1.1 or B1.2 of the AML.
Are there any restrictions / admission tests to be
admitted to courses? The admittance to the course is free. No admission tests are
required.
How long are the courses? The course takes 2400 hours (about 2 years) for Cat. B1.1
and 2000 hours (about 1 year and a half) for Cat. B1.2.
What are the contents of the courses? The training courses are composed of four basic elements:
a. theoretical training: consists of 13 modules in which
are included all the subjects to succeed the license in
category / subcategory in which the course is based;
b. theoretical examinations: are submitted at the end
of each theoretical module and consist of a variable
number of multi-choice questions, and for some
modules also by one or two essay questions. The pass
mark for the examination of each module must be
greater than or equal to 75%;
c. practical training: covers the practical use of
common tooling / equipment, the disassembly /
assembly of a representative selection of aircraft parts
and components and the participation in
maintenance activities at Maintenance Organizations.
d. practical assessment: determines whether the
student is competent at using tools and equipment
and working in conformità with instructions contained
in maintenance ex position.
All a) and b) activities included the theoretical elemtents
while those in c) e d) the practical elements. Hours for
every elements are equally distributed.
Where and when take place the courses? The theoretical and practical lessons are held from 9:00am
to 4:30pm from Monday to Saturday at the headquarters of
the Training Centre in Verona, loc. Quinzano, via Villa n. 12
and at the workshops based in via Piemonte 2 in
Lugagnano-Sona (VR). At least 30% of practical training
was held at the approved Maintenance Organization with
which the school works.
At the end of the course, how can I obtain the
AML?
At the end of the courses you need to make a practical
experience of 2 years for cat. B1.1 or 1 year for cat. B1.2.
This experience can be acquired at a Maintenance
Organizations recognized as Part-145 and / or Part M / F
according to Regulation EU 1321/2014.
After this period will be presented to the Competent
Authority, the application for the issuance of the Aircraft
Maintenance Licence, in the manner prescribed by the
Authority.
To the question, submitted on the appropriate form (EASA
Form 19), shall be submitted:
a) the Certificate of Recognition;
b) records of all practical maintenance activities carried
out in the time and manner required by European
legislation.
Once established standards of competence and
experience of the applicant, the Competent Authority will
issue the Aircraft Maintenance Licence (AML).
