Circle of Red Research Our reputation for scientific excellence is at the core of GO RED FOR WOMEN’S lifesaving work. Your donations help support breakthrough research funded by the American Heart Association. Here are just a few examples of research projects we’ve funded to fight heart disease in women: In a study completed in 2010, researchers developed a more clear understanding of the role of sex hormones in the risk for life-threatening heart arrhythmia. This could lead to improved protections and treatments for women at high risk, particular those who are post-partum. Could genes help determine the way women choose food and regulate energy? A screening tool could help identify those who may be at risk for excess weight gain due to their diet. The goal is to better understand how a common genetic trait might be linked via excess energy intake to obesity and the risk of cardiovascular diseases in women. Hyper- and hypothyroidism (too much or too little thyroid hormone in the blood) are very common in women and elderly adults. Findings could lead to a better understanding of how they affect heart function by changing patterns of gene expression. Another study aims to reduce the number of women who are obese during their childbearing years by using social networks to support them in returning to their prepregnancy weight after delivery and promote healthy infant feeding practices. Effective therapies could prevent or reverse diabetes-associated cardiac disorders. New drugs, gene therapies and other treatments could reduce the risk of heart failure in diabetics while reducing medical costs. Together, we can encourage women to make lifesaving lifestyle changes or learn how their family history plays a role in their health. Please join the CIRCLE OF RED and help us prevent, treat and defeat heart disease. Consider a generous donation to the American Heart Association. Together, we can beat heart disease. ResearchOur reputation for scientific excellence is at the core of Go Red FoR Women’s lifesaving work. Your donations help support breakthrough research funded by the American Heart Association. Here are just a few examples of research projects we’ve funded to fight heart disease in women:

In a study completed in 2010, researchers developed a more clear understanding of the role of sex hormones in the risk for life-threatening heart arrhythmia.
