INFECCIONESDefensas corporales débilesCuando una persona usa drogas o se involucra en conductas de alto riesgo asociadas al uso de drogas, se expone a la posibilidad de contraer o trasmitir infecciones virales como el virus de inmunodeficien-cia humana (VIH) y la hepatitis. Esta propagación ocurre no sólo cuando los usuarios de drogas com-parten agujas y realizan otras prácticas arriesgadas de inyección, sino también por los efectos que cau-san muchas de las drogas en los procesos de toma de decisiones, que pueden alterar la vida.

LA NARIZ Sin orificios nasalesAspirar cocaína por la nariz puede crear abscesos con aspecto de granos que pueden convertirse en agujeros abiertos. Estos agujeros pueden carcomer el cartílago que divide la nariz.

LA BOCA No muy agradable a la vistaEl uso del tabaco, sin importar si se fuma o masca (“rapé”), puede causar tumores cancerosos que des figuran la boca, enfermedades de

las encías y caries dentales. Fumar o mascar tabaco también decolora los dientes.

Tensar la mandibulaEl uso de la droga éxtasis causa que la persona cruja involuntariamente los dientes. Algunos consumidores necesitan usar protectores dentales e, incluso, otros tienen que usar chupetes.

“Boca de metanfetamina”Entre los efectos desagradables que causa la metanfetamina a los usuarios, está el de la “boca de metanfetamina”, en la cual las encías y los dientes se pudren.

LA PIEL Cara de pizzaLos esteroides pueden causar granos de acné por toda la cara a las personas que los usan.

EL HÍGADO Una ruptura peligrosaSe ha relacionado el abuso de esteroides con tumores de hígado y quistes con sangre. Los tumores y los quistes pueden romperse y causar hemorragias internas.

LOS PULMONESUna fosa de alquitrán Una capa de alquitrán pegajosa y marrón cubre los pulmones de los fumadores. Junto con otras miles de sustancias químicas tóxicas, el alquitrán puede causar cáncer de pulmón y enfermedades respiratorias agudas.
