Miss Danielle Greene &

Mrs. Missy Landis’ Class List

WOW! It’s such an exciting time! Kindergarten! This is such an important

year in your child’s life and I feel so blessed and honored you have chosen to

share your beautiful gift with me! Thank you so much for all your support,

encouragement and hard work you will

provide this year. I may be your child’s teacher but YOU are the most important teacher in their life. I firmly believe in

communication in anyway, shape or form. If you have a concern, question or just a comment, please ALWAYS let me know. If

you have a problem and I don’t know

about it, I can’t fix it. And, boy, do I love

to fix problems! :) It’s going to be a great year! Your child is going to learn and

grow so much this year. In June, we will

both look back and think, “Where has the time gone and look at how much this baby

has grown!” We are going to have fun! We are going

to play! We are going to learn a lot! We are going to grow!

So, enjoy this milestone in your child’s

life. Don’t be strangers in our classroom. Come anytime, come for lunch, come for

snack, come for reading rotations….they

are only babies once. So, I’m geared and ready for a year of laughter, memories, love and learning! Enjoy these upcoming

days and months. It’s going to be a blast! Thank you for trusting your babies with

me. Love, Miss Danielle Greene

Zzzzzz: Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest each night! I love seeing bright, rested, relaxed energetic children!

!

! -Quite fun! Each child will have their special day to be KING or

QUEEN for the day. We will draw a picture of them, explore the letters in their

name, create a name bottle and much more! I know your child will be SUPER excited to share the details of their

special day with their families!

Attendance is VERY important. Please make sure your child is here every day before the 8:30 bell. Remember our Specials times when you absolutely have to schedule an appointment during school hours. Active - Our students are VERY active throughout the day. There is not a whole lot of sitting for very long. We dance, jump, transition and move! We are 5 & 6 ! We need fun!

Birthdays - Birthdays are special days honoring your child. You may have birthday

parties after lunch. Please check with me prior to the event so I can help make it even more

special. When it is your child’s birthday they will bring home the birthday bag! Read the information that goes along with the bag and have fun!

BEE Folders - please make sure to send this back and forth to school each and every day.

This is SO important.Classroom Library - Every day your child will have the opportunity to check out a book from our personal classroom library. When

they finish reading it they may bring it back and check out another one.

Class? Yes? Whole Brain Teaching is my behavior management of choice! It is very positive, engaging and effective. There is a lot of student interaction and participation.

Don’t Forget to keep an extra set of clothes in your chid’s book bag. You never know what might happen in

a day. Data Notebooks - They will go home twice a month on Mondays. Please look through these, praise your child

for growth, note what your child needs to improve on, initial them and send them back to school the next day. It is very

important it is returned. If I don’t have them, I can’t assess

your child on our normal schedule. Thanks so much!

Easy Peasy Kindergarten? Kindergarten is not what it used to be! This year we will learn 113+ words, how to read cvc words, nonsense words and books; numbers, how to add and subtract numbers and so much more! It’s amazing how smart our sweet little ones are and how much information they can retain! I am so excited to see how high each one of our new Kindergartners can soar!

Family Involvement: We will have various activities throughout the year that we would

LOVE for your family to be involved in. We have a big kindergarten Halloween Fun Fest, 50s days, 12 Centers

of Christmas, & Easter Extravaganza! I will send home notes concerning upcoming events so you will always

know what’s going on!

Graph of the day: Each day there will be a graph of the day! It could be a question about anything from What’s your favorite dessert

to Do you like broccoli? Ask your child periodically about the graph of the day! This will help with our math skills, comparing numbers, literacy and it will be fun getting to know each other’s opinions!

Homework - Homework will be in the form of a choice board. I always encourage parents to work at your child’s pace. I know we all stay busy. As long as the homework is completed by your child at some point in the week, that is totally fine with me. Nightly or bi-nightly? When; is your choice completely. Homework bags: Beginning in late September/October your child will start bringing home homework bags! These bags are fun learning activities that you can do with your child !

Interesting books! We will send home monthly Scholastic book orders! This is a great way to stock your home library and help our classroom earn points. You can order online. Our online code is located on our Harris school website.

Jobs: Your child will have a classroom job! They will love being so responsible and helping so much!

We will change jobs each Monday morning! Ask your child what their job is for the week! They may be line leader, teacher assistant,

lunch helper, marker inspector, schedule maintenance or one of many other job titles! - Keeping your child home: If at all possible,

please make sure your child is here at school. They will miss valuable lessons when they are absent. Of course, there are those times they need to stay home if they are sick and in those cases, snuggle up with them and watch cartoons and eat chicken noodle soup. Please always send me a note so I can excuse the absence. Your child can only have 10 excused absences. After that, they will need a doctor’s note or the absence will be considered unexcused. Thank you so much! Lunch: We eat lunch from 11:10 - 11:40 each day. We would love

for you to come each lunch with us. Our doors are always open to you! Library - Our library day is THURSDAY. Your child will check out a Harris Library book on this day. Please make sure your child returns their library book so they may check out another one on their next visit. Our librarian’s name is Ms. Buchanan.

– Math: We will be using engage NY math this year It is very in depth and hands on! We use a TON of manipulatives everyday during math. We have a math rotation. This

consists of 3 small groups rotating every 15 minutes. – Money: Please send any money in your – child’s BEE folder in the zippered pouch and write the

date, amount and what it’s for on the Money Index Card ! Notes: Any notes (doctor’s, excuse notes…etc) you need to give

to me, please send it in your child’s BEE Folder. There is also a Parent/Teacher Communication sheet located in

your child’s BEE folder you and I will use to communicate back and forth about any given topic.

Open communication: Always feel free to contact me with questions or concerns. I’m

only a phone call, email or text away and my door is always open before or after school hours if you need to discuss

anything at all.

Poetry: Look for lots of poems and poetry this year! We will be keeping a poetry notebook and we will

learn some silly poems! Pencils, Pens, Markers….you will see your child using them all this year! I

believe children should explore the fun of writing! Writing with a marker on their writing paper that should be “PENCIL ONLY” is the coolest thing,

for whatever reason, to a 5 year old! :)

Reading: Reading is SO important. Make sure your child is reading nightly. We will have reading rotations .

Your child will learn how to use reading strategies like Lips the Fish, Eagle Eye, Stretchy Snake and Chunky Monkey. We will send home

rotation books 3 - 4 times per week. Have your child read their rotations book to you and then send it back to school

the next day. Sight Words - We will learn a total of 113+ words by the end of the year! We have broken them down into Rainbow Sight Words! Every child starts on red words. Once they learn those words, they will move to the next color. There are 10 colors total they will advance through. We will assess sight words every week. Practice, practice, practice. Snack: We will have afternoon snack each day. Each student will be responsible for snack once a month. On their snack day,we ask that you provide snack and juice for everyone in the class. We currently have 17/18 students.

- Transportation: If you wish your child to go home by any other means than you have originally specified, please fill out the transportation log located in your child’s BEE folder. Tennis Shoes - Our PE days are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes on these days.

- U : You are your child’s number one teacher. Thank you for all your support this upcoming year! I look

forward to working with you ! - Ugh? I got paint on my clothes!. It’s going to

happen. Send your precious baby to school in play clothes, They are here to learn through play.

- Volunteers: Are ALWAYS welcomed! We LOVE help! If you want to lead a math rotation, literacy rotation

read with a small group, help with projects….anything!! Just let me know when you would like to come and I will help make your time

most enjoyable! Website: We have a classroom website! This is where I will post pictures,

videos, information about upcoming dates and much more.

This website is not open to the public. It is accessible for members only. The website is
