SNIPPP Newsletter

Fall & Winter 2016

“Orphan Annie” was featured in our last newsletter. She was the seven month old Pit mix who was found by a resident of one of our rural communities after it appeared that she had been dumped. Her rescuer saved her life after rushing her to the vet for emergency surgery for a prolapsed vagina. At that time Mr. Quinn told SNIPPP that his wife had died last November and Annie helped him with his grieving process. But Orphan Annie wasn’t done being a guardian angel. During the holidays Mr. Quinn took Annie with him to visit family. Mr. Quinn’s brother has an adopted 4 ½ year old boy who had been diagnosed as autistic because he never spoke. One day during the visit, Mr. Quinn’s brother came and got him and said “you need to see this.” The child was sitting quietly with Annie and talking to her. The child turned to Mr. Quinn and asked “can she stay with us?” Every adult in the room was crying. Annie now has a new home living with the child and his family. Because of the bond between the child and Annie, the child is advancing rapidly in his mental development. We never know when we undertake a rescue what wonderful things can happen in the future because of our actions. It’s

obvious that Annie was meant to serve a higher purpose.

Updates

Abby the Tabby has a new home. In

our Fall Newsletter she was called

Lucky Girl. She had been dumped

behind Burney Disposal and was just

looking for a lap to cuddle in. Well,

she found one. This is what her

rescuer had to say about her: “Abby the Tabby arrived at her forever home in Washington State last night. Her new owner (my dad) was choked up with tears when he saw her. She was purring, eating, and coming back for loves every time her name was called. Abby will soon be a Seahawks and Huskies fan and will bring much joy to Dad. A big thank you to Susan, SNIPPP, and the veterinary staff who had a part in taking care of her until we found her...it is a match made in Heaven!”

Bacardi found herself homeless after

her owner passed away. SNIPPP

placed Bacardi in a foster home and

has been actively looking for a new

home for her. Now SNIPPP’s search

is over. Bacardi won the heart of her

foster family and SNIPPP is happy to

report that Barcardi will be living with

them permanently.

Rufus has been featured in many of

our newsletters. SNIPPP is sad to

report that Rufus lost his battle with

cancer during Thanksgiving. He

thoroughly enjoyed life in his forever

home with his pals Merlin and Katie

(who were also previously SNIPPP

dogs). His foster mom Allison gave

him the best 18 months of his life with

Adopt Me!

Here's Happy Girl! She's a smiling, tail-wagging female mixed breed dog. Maybe she's got some shepherd, maybe some Border Collie. She's athletic and energetic. Possibly she'd be a good Frisbee dog. She seems to get along with everyone: other dogs, cats, kids--and she loves to get hugs. She's still young enough that she has puppy energy and attitudes; some obedience training would help to round her out into a great family companion. Please call SNIPPP @ 530-336-6006 to find out about meeting Happy Girl today!

Little Charlie's human didn't come

back home from the hospital like he

was hoping she would. So now he's

wondering if there is another kind

and loving person who wants to

enjoy his company. Although he's

been the "only dog" of the house for

a few years, he seems to get along

well with the two friendly small dogs

at his foster home. Charlie is a 5 yr.

old, neutered Chihuahua. He is

housetrained, sociable, and likes

going for long walks on leash. Please

give us a call to find out about

meeting this friendly boy!

Issued spay or neuter vouchers for 400 dogs and 697 cats, preventing unwanted litters.

Reunited 22 dogs with their owners through our Lost and Found service and through our Facebook page.

Helped owners find new homes for 16 dogs and 35 cats/kittens through our Courtesy Listing service at www.snippp.org and through our Facebook page.

SNIPPP's 2015

Expenses

In 2015 97% of SNIPPP’s

expenditures were directly for animal

care. 19% was for the care and

services for animals and 78% was for

spay and neuter vouchers.

SNIPPP doesn’t have an office or any

paid staff. Our expenses for things

like mailing supplies, phone and

insurance were 2% of expenses.

Fundraising at 1% includes expenses

for the annual golf tournament and for

mailing the newsletter. The cost of

the paper and the color printing of the

newsletter are donated.

Did you know that the average female cat can have 2 litters of 6 kittens per year? So…if the 697 cats that SNIPPP provided vouchers for had been allowed to reproduce, our community would have a

potential 8300 unwanted kittens!! **Parvo is spread from one dog to another via direct or indirect contact with an infected dog’s feces. The virus can survive in the environment of an infected dog, meaning a contaminated leash, bowl, kennel, bed or even his owner’s clothing and shoes could potentially spread the virus. Parvo can live in the soil for an undetermined amount of time. Protect your puppy by getting its Parvo series of vaccinations.

Adopted!

Sweet little Scruffy was found approximately 2 miles from Hwy 299 in McArthur just before Thanksgiving. Scruffy was listed as an energetic, happy boy who was looking for an active home. SNIPPP is happy to say that Scruffy didn’t have to wait long to find the perfect home. His new owners are avid hikers, take daily long walks and work from home. Scruffy will be living like a king, doing what he loves!

Tough little Trip was rescued by a SNIPPP volunteer from someone who had a litter of puppies and no means to provide food or care for them. Trip was 1 of 4 puppies that was rescued that day. Unfortunately not long after arriving at their foster’s the puppies became ill with Parvo virus. Despite SNIPPP’s willingness to help them and best efforts by the local veterinary hospitals, three of the puppies succumbed to their illness. Trip not only survived Parvo but went on to find a perfect forever home. Thank you to everyone who put in the time and care it took to pull Trip through.

In February 2016 SNIPPP was able to pay it forward to a fellow animal rescue in need of help. Bella Vista Farms is a non-profit animal sanctuary operated by Bob and Chic Miller since 1990. Bella Vista Farms is not your typical animal rescue. It is a sanctuary for hundreds of at risk-animals including: dogs, horses, llamas, goats, cats, chickens and even a one-legged turkey. All of the animals arrive at the farm for various reasons: their former owners die, or go to prison, or face some other life disruption that forces them to give up their pets. The animals at Bella Vista Farms are usually elderly and infirm. Bella Vista Farms is not an adoption center. The animals taken in there stay for the rest of their lives. When SNIPPP found out that Bella Vista Farms was in need they jumped into action. Donations of beds, blankets and pet supplies were dropped off at both the Burney Veterinary and the Fall River Veterinary Hospitals and taken to Bella Vista Farms by SNIPPP’s founder Suzanne Kane. SNIPPP Board members called the McArthur Feed Store who graciously donated thousands of pounds of feed.

What does it take to run an animal sanctuary like Bella Vista Farms (per day)

50 lb of dry dog food 15 cans of dog food 40 lb of dry cat food 12 bales of hay A large variety of medicine

and medical supplies Beds, blankets

SNIPPP would like to take a minute to introduce everyone to a very special girl. Kiley Schultz of Adin, CA wanted to do something to help support SNIPPP. So, Kiley opened a lemonade stand. Kiley raised $133.25 which she donated to SNIPPP. SNIPPP appreciates Kiley’s thoughtfulness and kind heart. All donations received by SNIPPP go directly to helping animals in need whether that be through our spay and neuter programs, food donations or veterinary care for SNIPPP rescue animals. Thank you, Kiley, for supporting SNIPPP!!

Thank you Chrissie’s Fund!

Many thanks to the wonderful folks who every year give us a Chrissie’s Fund grant to support rescue services for dogs over 50 pounds and big breed puppies. For low income area residents with such dogs, these funds also fully pay for spay and neuter surgery and vaccinations. And additional special funds help SNIPPP pay for dog spay and neuter super vouchers.
