BACKGROUND

AKI AGENTS OF THE YEAR AWARDS (AAYA)

AKI Agents of the Year Awards was started in 2013 with the objective of recognizing and celebrating

the exemplary performance of the top life insurance sales persons. The celebration was expected to

motivate the winners to maintain the winning spirit and also motivate the rest of the agents to work

towards higher business volume and improve on quality of business sold.

The event comprises of two components carried out on the same day; an agent’s forum for capacity

and team building and the awards ceremony as a formal dinner event.

Over the years the event has been instrumental in the growth of ordinary life business, promoting

professionalism among agents and also development of the life insurance agency force.

The 13th edition of AAYA was held on Friday, 4th March 2016. The half-day Agents Forum was

held at Mamba Village and the awards ceremony was held at Carnivore Grounds.

The number of agents who qualify has dropped over the years and the same is experiences in the number of policies. Contrastingly, we have witnessed an increase in Average Annualized Premium per agent, which has grown by 25% over the last four year period of 2012 to 2015.These changes can be attributed to the continued improvement in criteria to ensure the awards are competitive. decrease. This drop was attributed to the change in the criteria introducing a second year persistency

requirement of 80%. This is expected to greatly improve the quality of business and encourage

persistency in the industry.

On the gender aspect, we see a situation where ladies did slightly better than their male counterparts

with women to men ratio of 55:45.

GROUP LIFE BEST PRACTICE AWARDS The award seeks to recognize life insurance companies underwriting group life class of business in line with industry best practice. The Awards are given to life insurance companies that embrace Industry Best Practice for the group life in the following areas:-

Use of the prescribed standard quotation form. Adoption of the minimum recommended premium rates. Update of the AKI Group Life Listed Risks Register. Innovation – new products and new distribution channels. Company with the Lowest Portfolio Loss Ratio.

The types of group schemes eligible for the awards are:

In addition, Micro-insurance schemes which are group oriented also qualify. Premiums must have been fully (100%) paid. Participating business must have been underwritten within the period beginning 1st January 2015 and 31st December 2015.There was notable improvements on innovations of new distribution channels and new products. This was the fourth year of the competition and participation over the four years has been as follows;

Agents Forum

Agent’s forum is a half-day training session for the all the agents who met the set award criteria and

were qualified for the awards. The forum has two components; an Indoor (motivational talk) and

outdoor (Team building) session.

The Forum brings together all qualifying agents from all various insurance companies to encourage

team work, boost Agents’ morale, look at ways to improve efficiency of business and foster harmonious

relationships within the Industry.

The forum was held on Friday, 4th March 2016 at Mamba Village in Karen from 7.30am to 2.00pm.

280 agents from 11 insurance companies participated in the event. The motivational talk was given by

Mr. Martin Muteti while Blaze Consulting Ltd facilitated the team building session.

A motivational talk on the theme was facilitated by Mr. Martin Muteti.

The objective of this prestigious award is to recognize the outstanding performance of the top

life agents in the industry and to motivate all life insurance sales agents to achieve greater

productivity and quality of business sold.

The awards also recognizes companies that have embraced innovation and good business

practice in Group Life business.

The awards ceremony was held on Friday, 4th March 2016 at Carnivore Grounds from 6.30 pm.

The Guest of Honor was Dr. Julius Kipng’etich, Chief Executive Officer, Uchumi

Supermarkets Ltd.

The event was well attended by over 700 Chief Executives, staff from insurance companies and

industry stakeholders.

awarded based on aggregated points to the Agent who at the close of the competition period met

the minimum qualifications as per the Criteria.

Any agent who has qualified to be in the Top 10 for the previous five (5) consecutive years will

5. Most Improved Company Award

The company with the highest percentage growth in qualified Agents subject to a growth of

20% over the previous year. The company must produce a minimum of 20 qualified agents in

the current competition year to qualify for the award.

6. Youngest and Senior Top Agents

The Youngest and Oldest Agents in the Top 50 Qualifiers. These will be awarded according to

the age of the qualifiers and not by the number of years they have served in the industry.
