COURSE DESCRIPTION:

AAP 0033 is offered as an alternative to MAT 1033, especially for students having difficulty with this

course. It offers smaller class sizes and more individualized attention. The same curriculum is used

and successful completion of this course places students into the subsequent credit/non-credit math

course. Course fees include all materials and no additional textbook purchase is required. This course

can also be taken by students wanting an intermediate algebra refresher course before starting college.

REFUND POLICY:

Refund requests must be made in writing prior to the second meeting of class and submitted to:

[email protected]. For online classes, please see the following webpage:

http://www.spcollege.edu/pages/dynamic.aspx?id=791 for St. Petersburg College’s “Last Day To

Drop With a Refund” policy. There are no exceptions to this policy, under any circumstances.

ELECTRONICS POLICY:

Cell phone etiquette must be observed. Cell phones and other electronic devices must be off and out of

sight prior to entering the classroom. Cell phones are not allowed to be used during tests, not even as a

calculator. Inform the instructor before class of any extenuating circumstances. Electronic devices

such as iPods, iPhones, Blackberries, etc. are not permitted to be used or worn in the classroom.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:

Students are expected to attend class regularly and on time. Instructors have the right to enforce their

own attendance policy and lack of attendance may disqualify you from being able to take the final

exam at the end of the course. For classes in a blended/online format, students are also expected to

participate on D2L, as directed by their instructor, and complete all D2L assignments in the timeframe

given.

TEXTBOOK / COURSE MATERIALS:

All course materials can be found in D2L. See a description of each type of D2L content below:

Syllabus: Find an electronic copy of your syllabus in the “Course Content” tab.

Lecture Notes: Find downloadable/printable copies of the course lecture notes in the “Course

Content” tab of D2L within each module folder and topic.

Lecture Video: Find interactive lessons/videos of each lesson (that coincide with the lecture

notes) in the “Course Content” tab of D2L within each individual topic folder.

Homework Problems: Homework problems are located within each topic folder inside of each Module.

They are viewed and submitted through D2L.

Extra Practice: There are folders labeled “Extra Practice” within each module topic folder.

These are optional practice pages or can be used for a grade at the discretion of

your instructor.

Quizzes: Quizzes are located in D2L by topic. They are taken and submitted

via D2L.

Practice Exams: Within each module there is a “Module Practice Exam”. These practice exams

can be taken multiple times (with different questions each time) and follow the

EXACT same format as the Module Exams (30 questions- multiple-choice).

These are excellent study tools and do NOT count towards your overall grade.

Module Exams: Exams are located in D2L by module. Like quizzes, they are also taken and

submitted through D2L. Each Module Exam consists of 30 multiple-choice

questions. It’s highly recommended that you don’t take the Module Exam until

you have demonstrated proficiency on the Practice Exam.

Final Exam: The Final Exam for this course is CUMULATIVE and taken via D2L. The Final

Exam MUST be proctored by your instructor or at a proctored location. It’s

highly recommended that you don’t take the Module Exam until you have

demonstrated proficiency on the Practice Final Exam.

GRADING POLICY:

Homework - 10% of Final Grade

Quizzes - 20% of Final Grade

Module Exams - 30% of Final Grade

Final Exam (Proctored) - 40% of Final Grade

HOMEWORK (Submitted on D2L):

There will be twenty-five (25) multiple choice homework assignments (by topic) throughout the

semester. Homework assignments are 20 questions and cover the specific topics within each module.

At your instructors’ discretion, you may be asked to show ALL work for homework on separate paper

to turn in to them. You have an UNLIMITED number of attempts on each homework assignment.

You can re-take each assignment as many times as you want and your final grade on that homework

assignment will be the HIGHEST SCORE of all your attempts. Please note that the questions will be

different each time that you attempt the assignment. You will NOT be able to advance to the Quiz

until you score a 70% (or higher) on the Homework assignment in each folder.

QUIZZES (Submitted on D2L):

There will be twenty-five (25) multiple choice quizzes (by topic) throughout the semester. Quizzes are

10 questions and cover the specific topics within each module. At your instructors’ discretion, you

may be asked to show ALL work for quizzes on separate paper to turn in to them. You have a

maximum of THREE (3) attempts on each quiz. You can re-take each quiz up to three times and your

final grade on that quiz will be the HIGHEST SCORE of all your attempts. Please note that the

questions will be different each time that you attempt the quiz.

MODULE PRACTICE EXAMS (Submitted on D2L):

Before each Module Exam, there is a Module Practice Exam. While these Practice Exams do NOT

count towards your course grade, you MUST score a 70% (or higher) before you can take the

Module Exam within that folder. You have an UNLIMITED number of attempts on each Module

Practice Exam.

MODULE EXAMS (Submitted on D2L):

There will be six (6) 100 point multiple choice exams (by module) throughout the semester. Module

Exams are 30 questions and cover the specific topics within each module. If given in class, you will

have only one (1) class period to complete each exam. No make-up exams will be given except for

extreme circumstances and the instructor is notified prior to the test. Unless otherwise dictated by your

instructor, you will only have ONE (1) attempt on each exam.

FINAL EXAM (PROCTORED and Submitted on D2L):

You must have ALL assignments submitted to take the final exam. The final exam for the course

is a multiple-choice MAT 1033 common final exam administered through D2L.

Face-to-Face and Blended AAP 0033 courses must take this exam in the classroom, proctored by their

instructor, during St. Petersburg College’s regular final exam week. Online AAP 0033 courses must

take this exam at a proctored location, following eCampus online course guidelines and procedures.

For more information about testing for SPC online students, please visit:

http://www.spcollege.edu/ecampus/cyberadvisor/testing_dates.htm.

Students OUTSIDE of Pinellas County must follow eCampus procedures outlined here:

http://www.spcollege.edu/ecampus/cyberadvisor/testing_outside.htm

** ALL students MUST take the FINAL EXAM, regardless of their course average prior to the

exam. Failure to take the FINAL EXAM will result in a final grade of “F” (Fail) for the course.

CLASS GRADING SCALE:

P (Pass): 70% or higher

F (Fail): Below 70%

Since this is a PASS/FAIL class, it will show up on your record as “S” (Pass) or “U” (Fail)

Students must have a 70% (or higher) final course average (with ALL assignments completed) to

pass AAP 0033 and move on to MAC 1105, STA 2023, MGF 1106, or MGF 1107.
