AAC modules

Some of our staff have been accessing a series of AAC learning modules that CALL Scotland have produced. These are aimed at services, teams or individuals to review their current knowledge and to develop best

practice when supporting people using AAC.

Series 1: Introduction to AAC. This is at an introductory level and is accessible to people without any previous specialised knowledge of communication disability or

communication aids.

Series 1 might be of interest to you and those who support you and our pupils at home.

See the link below.

Ah, yeah, ah, yeahI got this feelin' inside my bonesIt goes electric, wavy when I turn it onAll through my city, all through my homeWe're flyin' up, no ceilin', when we in our zone

I got that sunshine in my pocketGot that good soul in my feetI feel that hot blood in my body when it drops (ooh)I can't take my eyes up off it, movin' so phenomenallyRoom on lock, the way we rock it, so don't stop

And under the lights when everything goesNowhere to hide when I'm gettin' you closeWhen we move, well, you already knowSo just imagine, just imagine, just imagine

Nothin' I can see but you when you dance, dance, danceFeel a good, good creepin' up on youSo just dance, dance, dance, come onAll those things I shouldn't doBut you dance, dance, danceAnd ain't nobody leavin' soon, so keep dancin'I can't stop the feelin'So just dance, dance, danceI can't stop the feelin'So just dance, dance, dance, come on

Ooh, it's something magicalIt's in the air, it's in my blood, it's rushin' on (rushin' on)I don't need no reason, don't need control (need control)I fly so high, no ceiling, when I'm in my zone

Can’t stop the feeling

What have our AAC pupils been up to?

Kai took advantage of the Look to read donation software from Smartbox and he has

been really enjoying it.

Introducing Kai

Kai uses a Grid Pad 11 with double switch access. This is mounted to both his class chair and his wheelchair. Kai uses a lever

switch and a jelly bean switch on his right side. Kai has worked really hard over the past few years trialling different switches, but he now has the perfect set up and he is flying with VOCA use. Keep going Kai!

“Kai enjoys the look

to read as he needs to

press his switch for it

to read out every

word and it highlights

it as you go along”.

From Kai’s parents.

“He was showing

us all the

teachers and

support staff,

must be missing

you all. He

enjoys working

on his VOCA”.

From Kai’s parents.

Introducing Maisie

Maisie uses a Grid Pad 11 with direct access and a key guard. This is mounted to Maisie's wheelchair but can

be used on the desk too.

Maisie has been using total communication at home, this means as well as using her VOCA

she also uses sign language, gestures and eye pointing. It look like you have been working

really hard Maisie. Well done!
