Thursday,April10,2014• The Schuyler Sun A3 Mary Novotny SCHUYLER — A Funeral Mass for 105-year-old Mary Novotny, formerly of Schuy- ler, was held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Carl Zoucha officiating and music provided by Jack and Lois Seckman. Burial was in the Schuyler Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Ronald Dostal, Adolph Pep- linski, Ron Lopour, John E. Jedlicka, Kenneth Wieneke and Calvin Sorrick. Mary was born Jan. 26, 1909, south of Clarkson to Joseph and Anna (Castka) Lopour. She attended rural school in Colfax County. Mary and Frank A. Novotny were married Jan. 22, 1933, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Heun. They farmed south of How- ells until 1980 when they moved to Schuyler. Mary enjoyed gardening, playing cards and visiting with fam- ily and friends. Mary died April 2, 2014, at Parkview Home in Dodge where she had been a resident since March 2000. Mary is survived by her son, Dennis (Virginia) Novotny of Fremont. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank (1/12/1994); two grandsons, Paul and Bob Novotny; four brothers, Joe, Ed, Frank and Jerry Lopour; and four sisters, Libbie Jedlicka, Ida Vacha, Anna Zrust and Emma Horak. Svoboda Funeral Home of Schuyler was in charge of arrangements. Alyce Keller SCHUYLER — Alyce N. Keller, 97, of Schuyler, died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Golden LivingCenter in Schuyler. A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Monday, April 7, at First Presbyterian Church in Schuyler with the Rev. Neal Allen offici- ating. Committal was in Schuyler Cemetery. Alyce was born March 1, 1917, in Schuyler to Edward and Anna (Dostal) Novotny. She attended school in Schuyler and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1935. She worked at Bolt Variety for over 12 years. On August 12, 1951, Alyce married Irvin Keller at the Methodist Church in Seward. They lived in Octavia for 11 years and moved to Schuyler in 1962 and she lived in the same house until January 2012, when she moved to Golden LivingCenter in Schuyler. She had worked at Schuy- ler Memorial Hospital and with Irvin at the Farmers Grain Company in Schuy- ler for 20 years. Alyce was a member of the First Presby- terian Church, past member of the Session and served on the Schuyler Cemetery Board for 22 years where she was especially interested in maintenance and was responsible for many of the trees that grace the cem- etery. Alyce was Past Wor- thy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to travel, play bridge, attend play performances and was an avid reader. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Irvin Keller on Feb. 5, 1977; two sisters, Adelaide and Anna Rose; and two broth- ers, Edward Jr. and Thomas Novotny. Petricek, 91, of Clarkson, died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Golden LivingCen- ter in Clarkson. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, April 4, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in How- ells with Father Leo Riga- tuso celebrating the Mass. Interment was in St. John Catholic Cemetery. Elsie Lillian Jonas Petricek was born Sept. 10, 1922, on a farm west of Howells to Jerry and Agnes (Seda) Jonas. Elsie attended school at District #50 near Howells. For a time, after school, she worked for new mothers in their homes helping with chores. Elsie and Lambert A. Petricek were married by Fr. Drbal at St. John’s Cath- olic Church in Howells on April 22, 1941. A reception was held at the farm home north of Howells. Shortly after their first son Jim was born in 1942, Lambert left for the U.S. Army and served during World War II for five years overseas. Elsie and Jim lived with her par- ents until Lambert returned home to Howells. Two more children were added to the family, Rodney in 1949 and Janis in 1953. Elsie took great care of her family, was a very good cook and loved playing cards. She was a member of St. John’s Guild, Altar Society and Women’s Auxiliary. She helped out at dances at the Howells Ball- room for many years. After Lambert died in 1981, Elsie continued to live in How- ells. She moved to Clarkson in 2001 and into Golden LivingCenter in 2009. Elsie passed away there on Sat- urday, March 29, 2014.
