Tim Lane is 11 years old and he
uses a wheelchair. His classroom
at school is on the third floor. He
can’t use the stairs to go to his
classroom and there is a big
problem with the lift. It doesn’t
work, it’s out of order.
Every day Tim goes to the nurse’s office on the
ground floor and he does his lessons alone.
“I’m really tired and bored,” says Tim.
“Sometimes I sleep for a few minutes at my desk.”
Tim’s dad says that Tim is sad and angry.
“This is a big problem for Tim, and he already has lots of problems.”
Tim says, “Every day I say, maybe today the lift will work because I want to go upstairs and
see my friends again.”
Tim’s dad phones and e-mails the school every morning.
“Please, fix the lift!” he says.
But now the school says the lift is working again. Tomorrow, Tim Lane can do his lessons
with his friends in the classroom.
“I can smile now!” says Tim’s dad. “I am very excited!” says his son.
Tomorrow Tim will not study in the nurse’s office. He will use the lift and go to the third
floor to his classroom and see his friends. This makes him very happy. His friends are happy
too.
