Dear Parents and Carers,

This Friday we farewell Mrs Kate Marsh as her family are moving back to Brisbane. On behalf of the community I want to thank Kate for her hard work and wish her and her family all the best. Brisbane will certainly be much warmer and for that we are all very jealous. 2015 Alpha Show The annual Alpha performance will be held tomorrow in the hall. ‘Alpha Shows’ is a theatre company based in Langwarrin Melbourne, the dedicated group of professionals adapt classic stories into powerful metaphors for our lives as well as highly entertaining and fun comedy shows. This year the show is Hercules. The shows I have seen have been of a high standard so this should be no exception. Winter Prayer Recently I read this prayer and thought it provided a meaningful way to look at winter as the days become colder, shorter and darker. Let us all scatter the darkness with the light of God’s love.

A Winter Prayer From the rising of the winter sun to it’s setting ,

Scatter the darkness with the light of your love, O Shining One.

Make me short on mean thoughts, long on offers of words of comfort.

Make me short on being driven, long on paying attention.

Make me short on focusing only on myself, long on looking beyond.

Make me short of obsessive lists, long on spontaneous acts of kindness,

Make me short on mindless activity, long on time to reflect.

Make me short on tradition as a habit, long on rediscovery and re-owning.

Make me short on rushing and tiring, long on walking and wondering.

Make me short on false, festive jollity, long on stilling and rooted joy.

Make me short on guilt, long on being merciful to myself.

Make me short on being overwhelmed, long on peacableness as I set forth

this day.

St Anthony’s Feast Day- Friday 19th June, 2015 ‘Christ Is Our Light’ these four beautiful words are our school focus for 2015 underpinned by John’s Gospel that reads, “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”. St Anthony’s Feast Day will be celebrated on Friday 19th of June, 2015 with Mass beginning at 10am at the St Anthony’s Church (if weather prevails). Sensory Playground Project

What’s going on behind the black fence between OOSCA, the Resource Centre/Library and Year 3 buildings? We’re glad you asked.

On display on the Community Noticeboard located on the asphalt (where the children line up for morning assembly) is a concept map and photo display of this project. The aim is to share current ideas and plans of our future Sensory Playground with all parents and friends. This playground will be used by all students and of course by the OOSCA children. This project started in term 4 of 2014 with the most noticeable progress being made last school holidays when the site was cleared for future development. In the coming weeks and months we will need to form various committees to tackle different stages of the project. We are looking for assistance on projects such as mural painting, mosaic coordination, landscaping and garden planting. A separate committee will also be formed by the P&F to organise an art show as a fundraiser. If you are interested in becoming part of this exciting and creative project we would love to hear from you. If you would like to assist in any way or make any comments or suggestions, please drop your details and ideas into the front office where you will find a box and paper marked “Sensory Project Feedback”. Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability

Our school is participating in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on

School Students with Disability (NCCD). This Data Collection is taking place in

Catholic, government and Independent schools across Australia, and will

provide valuable information about supports required for a broad group of

students. This will enable Australian and State governments to better target

support and resources in schools. This in turn will help schools like ours give

students the support they need.

The NCCD is not limited to students with diagnosed disabilities. It uses a very

broad definition of disability, taken from the Disability Discrimination Act 1992

and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, which includes a range of

health issues and learning difficulties where schools implement strategies to

support students in participating effectively in their learning.

The Data Collection will take place at the end of Term 2. No personal or

identifying information about any student will be included, however, if you

decide you do not wish information about your child to be included in the

NCCD, you are asked to contact Trina Twyford the learning support teacher

to discuss your concerns. If you are still concerned you can contact Greg

Walker and request an information page for parents/carers. If you are still

concerned you should complete the opt-out section of the information page

and return to the principal. The opt-out letter will need to be completed,

signed and returned to the principal.

More information about the NCCD is available at:
