A tour of Ancient Greek Sculpture & Architecture: Learn from the Docent! You and your group will be docents as the class takes a tour of selected pieces of ancient Greek sculpture, vase art, and architecture. Your assignment is to become an expert in a selected period of Greek art (one of the following: Cycladic & Geometric, Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic) or ancient Greek architecture. As a group, you must decide how to share the presentation: EVERYONE must do their fair share in presenting before the class! (NB: Correct the grammar! J) To do well, the members of your group must share and coordinate information presented. Your group’s “tour” should be informative and capture our interest. We should want to see more. In the end, we should all be able to share the key features of your period of art. The focus here is on art appreciation and what distinguishes your period of art from others, but it will be for your classmates on your “tour” if you also share information from a historical perspective or share the story behind your artwork. You may do independent research on your area, but there are MANY suggested websites posted on my weblog’s “Helpful Links.” (References below to “MMA” are the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.) Key words and phrases that your group should include in the presentation – as well as the pieces that you will be showing us – are noted below. The art has already been assembled in a slideshow. The slides for your presentation, the written requirements, the rubric, and many, many resources are posted on Learn from the Docent! on the “Helpful Links” page of the weblog.
