A Successful Programming Refresh for Brazil’s Largest Radio Network

NYT Licensing helped Radio Globo re-launch their station with an inventive, live audio version of a successful column from the pages of The New York Times. Inspired by Modern Love: The Podcast, which is based on the popular Times series about the joys and tribulations of love, Radio Globo approached the Licensing Group with the idea of producing an in-market version of the podcast for a weekly segment on their lunch-time program.

In-Market Innovation For the re-launch, Radio Globo sought content that was in line with the station’s recent brand refresh, focusing on premium modern content for a younger audience. In addition, they wanted the option of evergreen content, with the potential for audio on-demand. The result was the inventive “Papo de Amor” (literally, “Love Chat”) – where local actors would perform reader-submitted essays from the Times column for broadcast.

A Resounding Success The launch was an immediate hit. For its first few weeks, “Papo de Amor” was ranked the 12th most downloaded podcast on the Brazilian iTunes store. Following its positive reception, the program was renewed for a second season.
