    Maximum capability for minimum price

The basic system delivers practically all the usual process parameters for fermentation.• Stirrer speed• Temperature• pH• pO2• Antifoam/level• Feed• PC Software: Iris

With the optional 2 addi tional analogue, inputs/outputs, the system can cater for additional parameters if required, such as, Mass-Flow, turbidity, exit gas analysis and additional external analogue pumps.

Designed for Easy Handling Minifors is designed to make handling as easy as possible for new users

with „plug’n’pump”, the use of a heating block rather than a jacket and an integral frame for carrying all components to the autoclave together.

Simple Operation Setting up the Minifors is made as easy as possible with a control panel that

is very similar to that used on our Multitron incubator shakers.

Complete Packages Minifors comes as a package with Cell and Bacterial versions plus two ves-

sel sizes. It can be set up „out of the box” with the necessary accessories provided.

Excellent Value The price/performance ratio of Minifors is high with a full system being

comparable in cost to a large incubator shaker but with the ability to provi-de more culture in less space.

Builds Bridges Minifors provides the link between shake flasks and larger-scale fermenta-

tion by providing the shake flask user with the additional features they need most i.e. volume, sampling, pH measurement/control, oxygen control, the ability to add feed and PC data-logging/control.

    Flexible and application-optimised configurations

The Labfors 5 bench-top bioreactor provides an easy-to-handle, flexible and upgradable system for culture volumes from 0.5 L up to 10 L. Pre-configured packages for cell cultures and microbials are available. Special options even qualify the Labfors 5 for cultivation of phototrophic organ-isms, halophile microorganisms and for biofuel applications. A single-use vessel option adds further flexibility.

Splashproof touch screen with integrated OPC server

Bioprocess control begins with the quality and flexibility of the local control-ler. The Labfors 5 splashproof touch screen controller provides accurate and reliable measurement and control for up to 6 vessels. Connecting external devices such as balances, HPLC, MS, Glucose analyser, SCADA software, etc., is easily possible via OPC.

Parallel bioreactor option The Labfors 5 features a new parallel bioreactor option which allows up to

6 vessels to be independently controlled from a single touch screen. Special features optimise the system for parallel bioreactor operation.

    Faster results with optimised handling

The Labfors 5 high-precision pump heads can be removed on a single plate in groups of 4 and autoclaved with the vessel. This reduces handling time and handling errors considerably as tubing does not need to be threaded around the pump heads and adjusted before use.

100% aseptic sampling The INFORS HT Super Safe Sampler allows you to take smallest samples

without wasting any culture. The truly aseptic design makes contamination during sampling impossible.

Space-saving, compact design With a footprint as low as 465 x 465 mm, the Labfors 5 saves valuable

bench space. This reduces the overall cost and allows greater research ca-pacity in the same space.

High-power LED lighting A total of 260 water-cooled high-power LEDs, focused with reflectors, offer

a reproducible light source with a long service life. The maximal irradiation intensity of approx. 3000 µmol/m²s is comparable to Caribbean sunlight. The energy efficiency is approx. five times greater than for fluorescent tubes.

Ideal light distribution With a layer thickness of only 2 cm, the flat panel culture vessel offers a uni-

form irradiation strength for the entire culture without shadowing effects.

Airlift The mixing of the culture is achieved gently yet effectively using the Airlift

process. Foam formation and biofouling are both reduced thanks to the asymmetrical shape of the head space.

Scale up A scaling up of the flat panel culture vessel to a pilot or production scale is

    possible.

Controllable light intensity Continuously variable electronic dimming from 0–100% facilitates the pre-

cise adjustment of light intensity. When used in conjunction with Iris parallel bioprocess control software, not only are on/off cycles possible, but even the simulation of a daylight curve.

Choice of light spectra Warm white light in the standard design offers an ideal spectrum in the

visible range that is similar to sunlight and contains a high proportion of photosynthetically-active light. Alternatively, other light colours such as red, blue, UV-A or infrared can be selected. The dimming of three colours inde-pendently of one another, allowing a dynamic change to the spectrum to be achieved, is optional.

Multiple applications Designed for the cultivation of algae, plant cells and cyanobacteria, the

Labfors 5 Lux is ideal for every photosynthetic process, e.g. investigations into the feasibility of biofuel production using algae. The Labfors 5 Lux control unit is also perfectly suited for other applications, e.g. for bacteria or mammalian cell cultures – depending on the specification.

New: LED lighting A total of 16 LED strips with air cooling offer a reproducible light source with

a long service life. The maximum light intensity of approx. 700 µmol/m²s is entirely sufficient for the majority of applications. The energy efficiency is approx. five times greater than for fluorescent tubes.

Extremely adaptable The LED strips are replaceable individually, which in turn also allows the

light spectrum to be matched to the application at a later point.

Automatic cleaning (CIP) The reliable and reproducible base and/or acid cleaning is done automat-

ically with variable cycles. This cleaning method is used as a standard in GMP cleaning processes, and can be validated.

Automatic sterilisation (SIP) Sterilisation of the Labfors 5, e.g. with hot sodium hydroxide solution, and

the final rinse with sterile water (integrated sterile filter) proceeds automat-ically. All parts in contact with the product including the air feed and ex-haust system of the bioreactor are included in the rinse. The process condi-tions (temperature, time, pH) can be configured flexibly. Typical sterilisation conditions are 60°C, pH 12.8, for a duration of 2 h.

High throughput The CIP/SIP saves you an enormous amount of time. The Labfors 5 can be

cleaned and sterilised automatically, e.g. overnight, and is then immediately ready for use on the next morning. This gives you more time for science and allows you to increase the throughput up to two-fold.

Easiest operation There is no need to dismantle and reassemble the bioreactor for cleaning

purposes or to transport the vessel to the autoclave and back. This elim-inates the sources of error and handling risks inherent in these steps.

Robust, proven technology There is no single-use technology applied in the bioreactor. Its sustainability

and robustness are arguments in favour of the Labfors 5 with LabCIP. The precise sensors and the powerful stirrer of the Labfors 5 ensure high cell densities and protein titers.

Small footprint The LabCIP needs less bench space than an A4-sized sheet of paper and can

be placed behind the Labfors 5.

Cost-saving The unit saves valuable working time, since it takes less than 5 minutes to

get the bioreactor ready for use. The downtime of the Labfors 5 is thus min-imised. There are hardly any running expenses associated with preparation.

    Dimensions (W x D x H): 210 x 295 x 1000 mm Labfors 5 compatibility: All Labfors 5 bioreactors (microbial configuration) are compatible with the LabCIP: 2; 3,6; 7,5; 13 l total volume

Compact, for laboratory use Terrafors-IS is mounted on a single column with the vessel to one side and

the instrumentation to the other for minimum use of space in the laboratory.

    Automatic in situ sterilisation system

The automatic in situ sterilisation system uses direct steam injection with a maximum temperature of 134°C. An optional steam generator can be mounted on the base for ease of use.

Vessel with 15 L total volume The Terrafors-IS vessel is made from 316L stainless steel and provides a total

capacity of 15 L. Maximal working volumes include 3–4 kg of solids (e.g., soil), semi-solids (e.g., sludge) or up to 7 L of liquids (e.g., oil). Two ports on the top plate are included for substrate addition/removal, and sampling.

Monitoring using exit gas analysis With the additional INFORS HT Gas Analyser the evolution of CO2 can be

related to rates of substrate utilisation and parameters such as respiratory quotient (RQ) determined using oxygen and carbon dioxide ratios. These can, in turn, be used to e.g. control feed rates.

Simple and intuitive local control Terrafors-IS is equipped with a high-performance touch screen controller.

The responsive touch screen features a simple and intuitive local op-eration and allows easy access to all functions. Peripherals such as the INFORS HT Gas Analyser for exit gas measurement and analysis can be readily connected to the system.

Up to 24 parameters: Rotation speed/direction; Temperature (including

in situ sterilisation); Feed; Gas flow; + several free channels, e.g., for exit gas analysis (O2 and CO2) using the INFORS HT Gas Analyser or for pressure measurement and control up to 2 bar.

Enhanced process understanding Terrafors-IS can be linked to the Parallel Bioprocess Control Software Iris

for data logging, customisable feedback control, and data analysis. The Iris Software allows automatic rotation sequences, collection of off-gas sam-pling with automatic analysis and provides for integration of off-line data. Thus Iris is the centre for true biological process understanding and control.
