GET INVOLVED WITH JPUN!If you’re reading this, you are likely a resident, property owner or business owner within the Jefferson Park neighborhood. Have you ever wondered how to get involved in your neighborhood? Do you have ideas you think would benefit your neighborhood? Do you have neighborhood concerns you’d like addressed? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, please consider coming to the next general membership meeting for Jefferson Park United Neighbors (“JPUN”). Even better, consider becoming a member of JPUN.

There are a few different ways to qualify to be a member of JPUN and they are as follows: (i) be a resident within the JPUN boundar-ies, (ii) own residential real estate within the JPUN boundaries or (iii) be a business with a principle place of business within the JPUN boundaries and perform regular, direct business operations within the JPUN boundaries.

If you qualify to be member of JPUN, please consider submitting a written and signed application for membership - a copy of which can be obtained (i) at a JPUN general membership meeting, (ii) by

requesting it via email at [email protected], or (iii) by downloading it at jpun.org. Once completed, please submit to the Secretary in person at a JPUN general membership meeting or via email to [email protected]. All applications for membership shall also be accom-panied by proof of residency, property ownership or locally operating business.

Your membership will be considered for acceptance at the end of the next JPUN general membership meeting. Maintaining your membership is easy from that point forward – simply attend and sign-in at least one JPUN general membership meeting each cal-endar year or notify the Secretary of your intent to maintain your membership status at least once each calendar year.

You do not have to be a member of JPUN to attend JPUN meetings or events; however, only JPUN members are allowed to cast a vote when required. Either way, please come, participate and join us in making Jefferson Park an even more vibrant and wonderful place to live and do business!

PET OF THE MONTH

ZOEY

Pet’s name: Zoey

Breed: Lab/Beagle Mix

Age: 2

Favorite food/treat: Cow cheekbones from Mouthfuls and bones by the stadium.

How did you meet your owners? I saw them walking around Dumb Friends League

How long have you lived in Jeff Park? Since I left DFL in 2015

Who is your celebrity dop-pelganger? Many people mistake me for a yellow lab puppy. I want them to know I’m a big girl. Fun fact though: I was on the news for

National Puppy Day the day I was rescued so I’m kind of a local celebrity.

What is your favorite thing to play with? I love ripping up toys and playing with them. Oh and when it’s windy, chasing blowing leaves.

Describe your most suc-cessful mischievousness. I’m not very mischievous but I’m a little weary of the world. The people who had me before DFL weren’t very kind and that makes me ner-vous. I might bark at you (my fellow dog friends) or your owners but it’s because of my trauma. I don’t mean it and am really a nice girl after you get to know me.

WOOFWould you like to see your pet featured? Please send photos and a few tidbits about your favorite pet to [email protected]. JPUN re-serves the right to edit all submissions.

WALK, BIKE OR DRIVE?HELP MAKE DENVER SAFER

Do you think cars drive too fast down your street or know of a sidewalk blind spot where cars cannot see you? Maybe you know a place where the bike lane could use more protection from traffic or does not connect through to your destination? Crash data only tells one side

of the story, and we want to hear from Denver residents where they think our streets can be made safer.

Denver residents and visitors are encouraged to visit denvergov.org/visionzero to take the map-based survey, select the location of their feedback, and add it to the map before April 30, 2017. Responses from the Vision Zero map-based survey will be used collectively by the city’s Vision Zero Technical Advisory Committee to identify patterns in behav-ior and street design to help set priorities for the Vision Zero Action Plan.

JPUN UNANIMOUSLY SUPPORTS REZONING REQUEST

More change could be coming to the commercial center of Jefferson Park near 25th Ave. and Eliot St. thanks to a proposed rezoning application. Dublin Development, a local Jefferson Park based developer, received a unanimous vote of support at the March Jefferson Park United Neighbors (JPUN) General Membership meeting in favor of a zoning change for a proposed development site to the east of Sexy Pizza on 25th Avenue outlined in the map to the left.

Under the current G-MU-3 zoning, Dublin could con-struct another slot-home type townhome project but Dublin owners are hoping to receive city approval to extend the G-MS-3 zoning from Sexy Pizza to the West, allowing Dublin to bring addition-al ground floor commercial spaces to the neighborhood while constructing condo units on the 2nd and 3rd floors and parking below ground. JPUN

recently voted in support of a similar, but separate rezoning application across the street on the north side of 25th Ave that could bring similar ground floor commercial businesses to the neighborhood.

Jae Edwards, one of the owners of Dublin Development com-ments “there has been so much density added to Jefferson Park in the last few years, and more on the way with the addition of the apartments currently being built and those in planning, such as the La Loma site. There are not enough commercial amenities in place in the neigh-borhood to support the added density, and we look forward to bringing more of this to the neighborhood with this new exciting project.”

JPUN’s show of support is merely a first step in what Denver’s Community Planning and Development outlines as a 4-6 month process. Dublin’s pre-application meeting took

2828-2836 W. 25th Ave

place on March 29th, and Dublin ownership indicated the initial meeting went well, with no issues preventing them from moving forward with their ap-plication. While dates for public hearings have not yet been set, Dublin will need to present at the Community Planning Board, whose recommendation

to City Council is viewed as a must for successful rezoning applications. The Community Planning Board recently voted in favor of the rezoning efforts on the north side of 25th Ave, and with JPUN’s sup-port Dublin is confident in a favorable vote for their project as well.

RIVER DRIVEMULCH PARTY

Stemming from too many wood chips delivered, River Drive resident, Ashley Daly-Morgan rallied neighbors for a Mulch Party.

E-mails were sent around and everyone agreed to spend their Saturday clearing out weeds, trash and trees from the south alley on River Drive.

A wood chipper was rented, blowers were put to use and pizza was ordered and 8 hours later the alley looks great. Well done neighbors.

Rent or own? Own

How long have you lived in Jeff Park? a little over 2 years

What is one word to describe our neighborhood? Growing

Favorite business in Jeff Park: Little Machine Brewery

Favorite restaurant in Jeff Park: Briar Common

Hobbies & interests: Traveling, Skiing, Snowmobiling, Hiking, Camping. All the great outdoor activities CO has to offer!

What is the best part about living in Jeff Park? We love the local residents and the feeling of community in Jeff

Park. Proximity to downtown and the ability to walk to great restaurants/breweries all has made Jeff Park a great place to call home

What is your opinion on all of the development in our neighborhood? Mostly good, we welcome the vast development that has been occurring in Jeff Park and overall in Denver. All the growth has been great for our local economy but there’s always some growing pains associated with construction and parking concerns with large row homes occupying smaller lots.

What is something about you that most people do not know? Our dog Cooper is really the sweetest loving dog when at home, but on a leash he has been referred to as the “Little Terror.” He is really all bark and no bite.

Spring is here, and soon, the street sweepers will be too! Denver’s residential street sweeping season begins Tuesday, April 4 and lasts until November. Denver Public Works is re-minding residents to remember to move their vehicles on their street sweeping day, so crews can sweep all the way to the curb line and provide the best service possible! Denver’s street sweeping program removes dirt and debris off the streets, so it stays out of our air and water.

Residents are urged to follow the red and white signs posted on the block for street sweeping parking restrictions to avoid getting a ticket. Even if it appears a sweeper has cleaned the

street, it’s still important to not park during the restricted times posted, as the sweep-er may need to return to the area to make another pass.

Helpful ways to remember street sweeping day:

• Denver residents can sign up for reminders through Pocketgov, the City’s mobile web application. After creating a simple user profile, residents can receive both email and text notifications.

• Call 311 to request “no parking” sticker re-minders for a calendar.

Baby Doe’s Matchless Mine Restaurant opened in 1978 at 2520 W. 23rd Avenue in Denver, Colorado. The restaurant overlooked I-25 and downtown Denver from its location on a bluff on the west side of the highway in the Jefferson Park neighborhood. The restaurant operated until approximately 2004 and then was used sporadically as a reception and banquet facility after that. The restaurant and its sister restaurant, The Chili Pepper, were demolished in 2007 for the development of the apartment complex that is now Element 47.

POTENTIAL DOGPARK

With so many new people moving into the neighborhood, it’s no wonder we’re seeing increased use of Jefferson Park. That increased use includes neighborhood dogs utilizing Jefferson Park as well. As a result of this increased traffic, neighbors have suggested building a new dog park in the area.

Across I-25 in Gates Crescent Park, an area was identified that could potentially be a suitable area for a new dog park. The area highlighted in the yellow box is a portion of Gates Crescent Park that very few citizens utilize.

The idea was floated to Councilman Rafael Espinoza’s office, who then informed the Planning Design & Construction Division of Denver Parks & Recreation. The proposed dog park was identified as a good candidate for a new dog park and is being submitted in the Capital Improvement Project list for 2018. It is a competitive process for funds, so expressing support for the proposed dog park can have a big impact.

Email Jeff Rodgers at [email protected] if you are in support of the proposed dog park and/or wish to be involved in helping make it a reality. A petition will be coming out this spring, so be on the lookout.
