A Portrait of a Community of Disciples The Eight Beatitudes as found in the Gospel of Matthew present us with the profile of a disciple. Each of the beat-itudes takes the follower toward a more profound understanding of what it means to be a disciple. The Beatitudes help create this portrait through the on-going transformation of the willing disciple’s life. The fu-ture disciples begin to discovering God’s presence and hear God calling them as one of the Beloved. This first consciousness recognizes the one who has loved us “before we were created in the womb.” Just as St. Francis of Assisi we stand before the one who calls us “Beloved,” recognizing the inadequacy of our own intentions and resourcefulness. Conscious of who we are before God, we become more aware of the person we should not be. The brokenness and isolation among the people and nations of the world fills us with distress and concern. We envision what could be, and yet we know deep down that our self-interest and self-centeredness separates us from the goodness of creation and the people with whom we share our lives. We weep or mourn the consequence of our inability to align our lives with God’s way of life. The new disciple discovers within this portrait a recognition that the world and those in it cannot be fashioned ac-

cording to a limited vision. The maturing disciple is learning (definition of the disciple) how to become a guardian

of the earth and a co-partner with God in reframing the horizon of the world; discerning the capacity within God’s

creation that continues to groan, and hunger groans for a quality of life that reflects God’s model for our humanity

2017 Week of Giving

This year and for the years to follow we will have a "Week of Giving" Campaign for capital improvements of Christ the Servant Parish and Our Lady of Peace School. We are hoping that the "Week of Giving" is success-ful enough to be the only fundraising campaign each year for general improvements. This year the improvements will focus on technology and increasing the network bandwidth in the school, preschool and parish office. We will also be improving the sound system in the church to be able to bet-ter control the volume and quality of the sound.

Giving Levels *The names of all donors will be recognized on the "2017 Week of Giving" Plaque that will hang in the school.* GOLD - Donations of $1,000 or more. Donors in the Gold Level will be invited to a Thank You Dinner with Monsignor Gaetano, receive a free couples ticket to the Valentine's Dance, and recognition in the weekly bulletin.

BLUE - Donations between $500 and $1,000. Donors in the Blue Level will receive a coupon for a free dinner for their family at one of our Lenten Fish Fry's and recognition in the weekly bulletin.

Second Annual Souper Bowl Sunday February 4 / 5

On February 5, two football teams will face off on the gridiron in a “super” exhibition of athletic skills as they vie for the NFL champi-onship. On that same weekend, social con-

cerns hopes to show our parish’s concern for the needy in our community through a “super” demonstration of love and sharing – Souper Bowl Sunday. Our goal will be 700 pounds of food – help push the collection over the goal line.

We ask that each family donate a can of soup or other non-perishable food item using the bag provided in the bulletin and place it in the carts in the church vestibule. It is our mission to show that the members of Christ The Servant Parish are true champions of love and concern for those in need.

The Homeless Outreach/Hunger Ministry Team

We had a good week for our food drive. 344 lbs. of food was collected, 68 lbs. of clothing (mostly hats and gloves for Hope Outreach) and 12 lbs. in toiletries. Hope Outreach will be very grateful for everything including the hats and gloves. Our grand total is 428 lbs. Thank you everyone for being so kind and generous to our ministry.
